  • New host ESXi licensing

    Hi guys,.

I am currently working on a workflow for the provision of new hosts ESXi from scratch. Unfortunately, I glued on the new VMWare licensing to a host. I wanted to do this with a script element:

    Entry:

    Host (VC: HostSystem)

    License (String)

    Code:

    Host.configManager. licenseManager. licenseAssignmentManager.updateAssignedLicense (Host.id, license, null);

Unfortunately, this returns an error indicating licenseManager is null.

Anyone know how to set the new licenseManager on the host or license in another way?

    Thank you

    Kamil

OK, I got it myself. Instead of approaching licenseManager thanks Host.configManager I used instead of the VC:SdkConnection variable.

    Entry:

    Host (VC:HostSystem)

    SDK (VC:SdkConnection)

    LicenseKey (String)

    Code:

    SDK.licenseManager.licenseAssignmentManager.updateAssignedLicense (Host.id, LicenseKey, null);

    This works perfectly!

  • ASA 5505 host under license limit has been exceeded

I'm receive syslog message 450001 - host license limit has been exceeded.

To see the version on my ASA 5505 (8.0.2), inside hosts are limited to 10. The limit of 10 corresponds to the limit (10) syslog error message.

How is this calculated number of hosts? Show arp represents 6 addresses glued to the inside interface.

    Hello

Don't use "show arp", use "local host" instead.

    Excerpt from http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa72/configuration/guide/specs.pdf

In routed mode, hosts inside (business and home VLAN) account in the limit only when communicating with the outside (Internet, VLAN).

Internet hosts are not counted toward the limit. Also, guests who initiates the traffic between businesses and home are not counted toward the limit. The interface

partner with the value default route is considered to be the Internet interface. If there is no default route, hosts on all interfaces are taken into account in the limit.

In transparent mode, the interface with the smallest number of hosts is counted within the limits of the host. See the show local-host command to view the host

    limits.

  • FireSight/SourceFire IPS licenses

With my package, I received two orders + protect licenses. They have no expiration in the licenses of the UI part and were a SKU to $0 on the command. I bought only the subscription, no IPS or malicious URL filtering software. However when I create and implement strategies of intrusion in FireSight UI does not complain.

Is the component functional IPS based on control + protect the licenses that I received?

Control / Protect licenses should be attributed to modules to ensure all features of the any other feature licenses.

It is true that they are not necessarily error when you did not. but features can fail in more subtle ways depending on how your policies are made.

  • Log Insight 3.3 shows several entries host consuming licenses - can I clean it?

    Hi all

So I installed the Log Insight 3.3 for vCenter and it helped me to set up log shipping. Everything works well except two things:

    1. Duplicate hosts (see below) consume all my OSI licenses. Anyone know how I can clean one of the entries? (Of course, I can add FQDN ESXi host name if this is useful and supported)
    2. 5.5 ESXi hosts are not in list host - configuration double checked and restarted syslog. Possible due licenses OSI are consumed by the host entries a copy?

    Release notes:

The host table can display devices more than once.
The host table can display devices more than once with each in different formats, including a combination of IP address, hostname and domain FULL name. For example, a device called foo.bar.com may appear as foo and foo.bar.com.
The host table uses the host name field that is defined in the syslog RFC. If an event sent by a device via the syslog Protocol does not have a host name, vRealize Log Insight uses the source under the host name. This can cause the device being listed repeatedly as vRealize Insight Log cannot determine if the two formats are pointing to the same device.

    Advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    # 1 there is no way manually clear entries - for/admin/hosts the entry will be deleted once that all data from this host spun on (i.e. based on the retention period), for/admin/license if you click the question mark next to medium active HMOs, it says "The average County OSI active is the daily average number of hosts sending events to Log Insight." the big question is why are you seeing duplicates? Duplicates saw if DNS front AND rear are or are not configured correctly. Duplicates can also result in malformed syslog events.

    # 2, the question is not duplicated OSI - if this does not work, it means that something is wrong. It could be the network report including DNS resolution on the ESXi host or network firewall configuration (no configuration host firewall). You'll probably want to connect to and 5.5 ESXI host and check things like syslog configuration validation, confirming the network connectivity to LI, confirming DNS resolution to the syslog destination is work, etc..

    I hope this helps!

  • The host is licensed with VMware vSphere 5 Standard. The license of vCenter Server edition doesn't support VMware vSphere 5 Standard.

So I disconnected a host to vcenter server and now I get this error message when I try to reconnect to this host.  The host has been previously connected without any problem.  Vcenter servers as esxi are 5.5.0.  Anyone had any experience with this?

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure why it worked previously. Maybe it worked with an earlier version, or hosts have been added while vCenter Server was still running in trial mode. Anyway, if you have a license of Essentials for vCenter Server, you must also license processors Essentials the Essentials version is sold as a kit.

  • Migration and ESXi host PowerCLI license management

    Hi all

I'm trying to understand if I want to do is possible using PowerCLI. I have 30 guests who need to have their permits assignment of keys changed/moved to a new key that was added to the environment. Is it possible to do this in PowerCLI?

I got two keys with 16 cores of each key and I need to move my hosts specified for these new keys.

    Kind regards

    Paul

A glance at the post by damien claim vSphere licenses through PowerCLI.

  • Host-based license

I have an ESX host with a license based on the host, now let's say the machine is not owned by our company, it's on "ready".

Let's say we are audited by VM Ware, and they want to know our environment.  Now, let's say that 'ready' machine the company bankrupt, but still need to recover the license information.

Is this possible?  If I click on the machine configuration and select about license, it displays 'host license file' and I vaguely remember implementation, but the person who sent me the file is of type LONG gone... and this is the story of the e-mail.  Is there a way I can connect to the server to get ANY type of license information (like where it was purchased, and how it was recorded, because someone has - I know that's not on the server, but any license information such that will help key).  How can I do this?

The license file must be on the ESX host to: /etc/vmware/vmware.lic

You should be able to pull usig WinSCP, then open it.  It will not show that he registered, but you can submit this file to supprt VM or licensing to make better known the owner/register(er?)

  • Host esx license problem substituting

    Hi all

I have a problem when I try to replace it by an esx host.

We have a total of 20 under license issued, 19 in use (9 esx host have 2 cpu, 1 esx host has 1 cpu).

To add a new host esx (I'll call esx11), I had to unplug and remove a host of VIC (I'll call esx01).

The result is that esx11 is "unlicensed" and if I make a 'survey of status' using license server tools (FYI License Server is installed on Virtual Center), it always reports as licensed hospitality that I disconnected (esx01).

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance.

    PIO Massaro

just because you disconnect will not remove the license.  You must go to the ESX host, under the configuration tab and the features under license.  Change your license source.

  • How to determine the number of remaining licenses for a package of three users Windows 7 upgrade?

There must be an easy way.

Compare key - license in use

    Click Start, type: cmd

    Right-click on CMD

    Click on run as administrator

At the command prompt, type the following command:

    slmgr - dli

    Press enter on your keyboard

This will reveal the key to partial product that give a clue. Compare it with the keys that you have and it will confirm which copy is in use.

  • Can I add a multitude of 5.1 to a cluster, where the other hosts remain 4.1?

I know that the answer must be Yes, because it is, how it works, do the upgrade spread. But this time I will have a new host 5.1 and a newly improved vcenter, with other guests staying at the 4.1 for a little while. No worries with this?

Which should not cause problems, you should just create a VM with a new version of HW if you want to be able to migrate/vMotion them between different hosts. For VMware products interoperability Matrices , see supported configurations

  • Host Firesight license limit

    Hello world

I see this alert in the center of the defense healthcare

Module FireSIGHT host license limit: you have 0 off FireSIGHT 2000 remaining licenses of the host
Monitor module license: DC750: number of HOST used exceeds total by 9 licenses.

Host here means number of PC?

    Concerning

    Mahesh

This means that the number of addresses to end host seen by your FireSIGHT Management Center. This can include PCs and any other IP address whose traffic has been observed through the CMF.

  • disconnected from the host. license insufficient reason on the host

    Hi all

I've updated one of my hosts vSphere for version 6 and licensed II and a new device of vCenter 6.  They are installed and are working without problems.  However, when I try and move the 2 x remaining physical servers vSphere Essentials 5 everywhere for the new vCenter device I get a licenssing error.  I added in the vSphere Essentials 5 keys for 2 x new hosts, yet when I try to connect the computers through a process and then puts the servers in a disconnected state.

Is it because the vCentre server is a Standard license, and 2 extra guests are only Essentials?  There is a version mismatch and so I can not do?  At this stage I can't update the remaining guests of vSphere 5 2 due to licensing.  Will I need to run 2 x side by side vCenter servers, or have I missed something obvious?

    Thank you

    Jay

Is it because the vCentre server is a Standard license, and 2 extra guests are only Essentials?

Yes, ESXi host under license with kit Essentials can be managed by essentials vCenter vCenter standard cannot handle them.

  • Mobile 5.1 ESXi host in vCenter unpublished 6 - license?

    Hi all -

If I take an ESXi host 5.1, previously managed (under license) via a given vCenter (also v5.1) and its key in the inventory management, then I disconnect/remove this host from the vCenter 5.1 and connect it to a completely new vCenter, what happens to the host of license?

It disappear and become a 60-day eval, or his license key moves WITH the host in the new vCenter?  (The new vCenter in this scenario would have absolutely zero license keys from host ESXi that apply to guests of ESXi 5.1 existing installs below)

I was wondering what 'happens' in this scenario I have the document our so-called steps for migration.  Yes, I know that this could / should all be tested "in the lab" but don't get started me on that.  Thanks for any comments on what I can expect.

My best guess is that the host will LOSE its license now, it becomes a 'standalone' ESXi host when disconnected and removed from the old vCenter (via the "Delete" command).  I want to just make sure that it is also fully functional, if she has run VMs on it at the time or not (although Yes, I'll put it in maintenance mode before removing the old VirtualCenter and join a new).

And Yes, of course I have old games of the existing environment 5.1 ESXi license keys.  I'm just trying to set expectations as to what is happening in licenses-wise once I move the host from the old to the new vCenter.  I have all pretty well understood technical pieces, including AVS and DVS network considerations.  Thank you.
