What does that tell how to fix this

Hi NickyWood,

When exactly do you get this error code?

If you receive the error message when you start Windows XP, you can follow this link.

When you restart your computer or upgrade to Windows XP, you receive the error message "STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME".

Hope the helps of information. Please post back and we do know.

It's true - you will not engage in any mode with this error and you must type in the EXACT error you see carefully (there are more than that, right?).

    UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.  If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check that any hardware software is properly installed.  If this is a new installation, ask that your hardware to the software manufacturer for any windows updatesyou might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Disable the BIOS memory options such as implementing caching or shading.  If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Safe mode.

Although it is a Windows XP installation CD, should NOT be used either of the functions of the Installation. You will use the Recovery Console to run a program to check the structure of files on the hard drive and fix it if necessary. There is VERY little chance of what either being deleted! And you'll still have SP3 when all is said and done. :-)

That being said, it is important to ensure that everything is always stored safely.

    Hello

something about the control bug 0xED is here:

    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff560355 (v = VS. 85) .aspx

(Which indicates that the IO subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it failed)

So, if you have not the administrator password, only you can do - disassemble the HARD drive of your laptop, insert it into another computer and run the CHKDSK command from the command prompt:

    CHKDSK x: /f

where x: is the HARD drive volume

This could help you, how to run the command prompt and the command CHKDSK:

    First, store the boot CD.

Secondly, because we know nothing on your system, you could tell us about it.

Third, follow the directions in this thread:

Tried last known configuration (F8). -result nothing, does not open in Mode safe

Advanced options (disable autostart) (disabled RAM memory and shading options in Setup) - nothing, blue screen appeared gradually, with the message:

the problem started there are ten days that I was trying to open an e-mail with attachments photo multi format: .gif, .jpg jpg have been read, and after having tried to open the .gif, the locked computer files and had to "hot" shut down windows without leaving correctly and then tried to restart.

If you used the power button or similar, it looks like your NTFS file system is corrupted, but you can usually fix it by running a chkdsk/r from the XP Recovery Console.

Here's a problem similar to yours that has a happy ending (are still looking for the happy ending):

    Hello

Since last night I get the above error message on my computer at startup.

I can not start in any other mode and tried to use the recovery console (starting on the DVD) using FIXBOOT and CHKDSK /R but still no luck.

I also tried searching on the error code with no luck.  I recently bought an IPOD but was already using itunes and the computer worked very well after the IPOD synchronization.

I'm stuck and would be grateful if someone could help me solve this problem.

    THX,

    Eliot

It is proably a record broken. Restart your computer and press F8 when Windows starts to load. Select the last known configuration of God in the menu, then press OK. I had the same problem, and that it resolves. Maybe a program to train register is broken.

    Hi there SQUAWKERTWO,

0x000000ED and UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME means that your hard drive starts to do not (or has not) - I understand your financial situation (as I was once unemployed two years) but unfortunately I can't recommend you don't use your system for awhile until you can save up enough money for a computer technician to clone your entire hard drive to a new. If you continue to try to use your system, this means your hard drive can completely fail, then your only chance to recover personal files would be done by a specialist in data recovery - and they are very rarely affordable.
