    You did changes to the computer before the show?

    Desktop.ini file contains records personalization information.

    Follow these steps to display the hidden files and folders.

    a. open the Folder Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, appearance and personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

    b. click on the view tab.

    c. under Advanced settings, uncheck the box hide operating system files (recommended)

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If the restore does not work, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.
    As your falls into the above category: download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    I have windows vista with service pack 2.    Vista is no longer supported so where should I go from here as an upgrade?
    Hello
    Vista is in the Microsoft extended support until April 2017.
    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
    Depends on hardware configuration required on later operating systems, and also find out if the manufacturer of the laptop computer is supported and provides drivers for operating systems later as to whether it is possible or feasible to upgrade or not.
    There is no free upgrade Vista to 7, 8.1, or 10.
    Follow these steps before you buy Windows 7.
    Microsoft sells more than 7; Try Amazon.com.
    Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.
    If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.
    Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
    Microsoft sells more than 8/8.1.
    Try Amazon.com, etc.
    Check if the manufacturer of your computer/laptop has Windows 8.1 drivers available for your model.
    If this is not available, Windows 8.1 not install and work properly for you.
    There is a lot of information in this first link from Microsoft:
    Download and run the Windows Upgrade Assistant 8.1 of to see if your machine is compatible Windows 8.1 and read the update for Windows 8.1: FAQ here
    Relax and breathe.
    FIRST: Uninstall IE8 and IE7 if they are installed.  Back to all the way back to IE6.  You want other patches before you get those.  Reboot after doing this.
    You are not the first to ask questions about how to upgrade a clean Windows XP - not even installation in the last week. In fact, I will just cut and paste my answer here... here:
    Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]
    Install it.
    Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.
    Get SP3 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]
    Install it.
    Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.
    Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).
    Install it.
    Reset.
    Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.
    Back - let everyone know if it worked for you.
  • Window vista business 32 bit auto update not install SP1
    I have Window vista business 32 bit on Sony Vaio laptop. My automatic update of the window is on, a lot of updates were installed, I can't find the SP1.  I checked the updates, saw "the view update history" but can't find SP1.  Basic information system shows no service pack. 'Winver' shows Version 6.0 (6000 building). All other window updates have been installed except "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express edition service pack 3 (KB955706) who is still unable to install, do not know for what reason." I guess that there is no link between the failed SQL and SP1. It is after a complete reinstall of Vista 3-4 days back.
    Prior to the relocation is in that the original version, Vista SP1 was installed automatically by the Update window.
    I wonder if SP1 is already installed, but is not displayed or should I download and install it manually.
  • Windows Vista business, suspended installation of update 10 of 10
    The date is 09/15/11
    Last night I was invited to be updated.
    The update installation started with 1 of the 10 with the standard message, "Please do not feed where unplug your machine."
    Last night I went to bed with updated installation 10 10 always on the screen. The blue icon was still running as the white dots incremented after the "10 out of 10.
    This morning, it's still sitting on the same blue screen icon still spinning - growing points.
    Anyone can shed some light on this. If I stop and restart, which is perhaps my only option, what do I do if I can't restart or you end up in safe mode?
    Thanks in advance.
    Don't want to seem ungrateful, but it was not useful. I ain't under Windows Vista Business, Windows 7 and my PC has not frozen during a restart after installing updates, it froze during updates. Thanks anyway. I rebooted and was lucky to start normally.
  • Vista: Unsuccessful Service Pack 2 install (Error 80070426)
    original title: the Service Pack installation failure
    I have a HP Pavilion 061 and Vista Home Premium 32-bit running. The following has occurred:
    1. Windows has detected an update, service pack 2. It came out like two years ago, so I don't know why my system just inform me of the update. I did the update. After installation, I couldn't start my computer to run Windows. I could access the screens before starting Windows. I tried a variety of options, but could not do anything for work. SafeMode would note boot Windows. System Restore does not seem to work and start with an earlier version of Windows does not work, even though I'm not a very competent with these options.
    2. I used the 'Windows Vista Home Premium Express Upgrade' original CD. It reinstalled Vista without any service packs or updates.
    3 Windows started, but I lost all my old files and programs.
    4. I tried to install Service Pack 1, but it would not be installed successfully. I ran the software to Microsoft for Service Pack 1 upgrade and tried the upgrade. It did not work.
    5. my Control Panel does not open.
    I need help:
    a. install SP1 so I can run the Office 2010 software
    b. to restore files lost, if possible
    c. open my control panel
    In my view, that a virus may have caused this. I ran Avast, but nothing is found.
    I run Avast, the free version. He will do a 'quick scan' and didn't find any viruses. When I do the "full system scan", it crashes and the computer shuts down.
    Or, you see the effects of an infection (perhaps because the computer Vista was online without being fully patched) or the effects of not running the Norton Removal Tool when you should have done.
    In any case...
