10.6.8 Mac crashed, does not now recognize LaserJet 2600n

My office iMac crashed. (!!) The data has been retrieved and the disc repaired & reformatted. Then the data has been moved.

I was installing software original & so far, everything is well except that I have a problem with the HP Laserjet 2600n printer.

I used the installation program that was on the original disc and received the message "Successful Installation". Then I tried to print something, but the 2600n is not being found by any software.

There are 2 HP folders in the folder utilities: "Hewlett-Packard" and "Configuration of the HP EWS device" - but the last modification in 2010 and seem to be a scanner. No devices are evidence in the HP Device Configuration or uninstall anyway. Otherwise, I find no HP folder.

So what to do now? (There is a firmware to http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=446154&p.... What is a driver? Should I download it?)

It is a FW update for your printer. Print a configuration page and see what FW datecode is on it. If this corresponds to one located on hp.com then you already have the FW update. If it does not, then you need to update. It is one of the reasons that the Mac isn't the 2600n printing.

Another suggestion would be to use the .dmg file that is posted on hp.com for this printer instead of the Conference on disarmament.

This is the page for this printer:

2600n
