10 Windows Update has failed, restored for Windows 7 - cannot open existing files

Oh boy, am I ever stressed.

My update of Windows 10 failed today (error: failure of page in nonpaged area).  I will have that later - my immediate problem is that when the update failed and stopped, it is automatically reduced to Windows 7 and all of a sudden I can't get all my Word or Excel files.

More specifically: I can't open my files in Word or Excel, except those saved on the desktop.  Desktop files open fine, but whatever it is saved in a folder or other location does not open.   Other types of file open: photos, Photoshop, PDF, apparently everything opens without a problem.  For Microsoft Office files, I get the following messages:

For Excel:

Excel cannot access "File Name.xls". the document may be read-only or encrypted.

and

"File Name.xls" are not accessible. The file may be corrupted, located on a server that is not responding or read-only.

For Word:

Cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges

Possible Note:

1. I registered normally (as an administrator).

2. when I right click on the file and look at the properties, everything seems normal (read-only is not checked, and the location of the file looks correct.

3. I tried to pass a doc to a folder on my desktop.  It says that I have to give permission to the administrator.  I am able to click on the button 'continue' admin, the file is moved to the desktop, but still does not open.

Any advice would be welcome!  I'm not a computer expert, and I desperately need to access my documents.

So I clicked 'Add', typed the username- desktop\user name in the subject box, and then clicked on "Check names", then press the OK"" button.

And now, the file opens.

I'm sure there's a better difficulty out there, I don't know what it is.  Whatever it is, I can access my files now.

You have made the right choice. It is essential that the specific user or group 'everyone' has full access to the file or folder. The alternative would be to use the console commands. They require a good knowledge of administrative tools.

Be sure to mark my suggestion as "Response" to this topic.

  • Windows 7 cannot open zip files

I'm almost certain that, in the past, my Dell Inspiron 580 with Windows 7 could open zip files.

Last month I had to replace my internal hard drive and reinstall Windows from the disks that I bought from Dell.  Now when I try to open a zip file I downloaded, I have an alert that says that Windows Explorer is unable to open it.

I see a lot of different programs, you can buy or download free, claiming to allow you to decompress the files.  Isn't Windows supposed to be able to open zip se files?

Is there any downloadable for free, zip file openers that work with Windows 7 64 bit?

    Hello Jumprun,

Compress or decompress files isn't windows features. Software of third party such as WinZip, WinRAR, 7Zip are used to compress and decompress files. You can download them by clicking the program you want to download.

  • I downloaded the demo for the English version of Windows, but cannot open the file Captivate_8_LS21.7z I have 32-bit. It will work or should I re-download?

I downloaded Windows English version 1.45 GB trials.

It downloaded, but I can't open the file Captivate_8_LS21.7z.

I have 32-bit. Will this work?

    Hello

In order to download / install Captivate 8 32-bit, you must download the 2 files (.7z and .exe) at the same place / folder.

Once both completely downloaded files then you will need to run the .exe file and it will extract the .7z first and then to initialize the installation program. You don't have to open the .7z file.

Let me give you the download links to Captivate 8 32 bit: -.

Say the mention of the link below in any Internet Explorer open Web browser

    https://www.Adobe.com/cfusion/TDRC/index.cfm?product=Captivate

Sign in using your Adobe id and your password, then you will be redirected to download the Captivate 8 Web Page.

Do not click download. Kindly leave this window open as it is.

Now copy and paste the reference to the link below in the new window of the same Web browser in which you opened the link above.

    http://trials3.Adobe.com/AdobeProducts/CPTV/8/Win32/Captivate_8_LS21.7z

    Then Save the file.

Do the same for the mention of the link below and save the file .exe so.

    http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/CPTV/8/Win32/Captivate_8_LS21.exe

Make sure the two files (.7z and .exe) save/download in the same folder/location.

NOTE: Wait for the two files at the end of download and then run the .exe file.

Once you run the .exe, it will begin to extract the .7z file and provide Captivate 8 folder on your desktop that contains setup.exe. Run the setup.exe to install 8 Captivate.

  • Windows 10 - cannot open pdf files in MS Reader

Hello, I have recently updated my phone company to 10 Windows in Windows 7. I have been using Acrobat Reader XI without problems. Since I was walking, opening PDF files always ends without response. After you open the PDF, he held only icon for a few seconds and then nothing (not even a blink of a new window / frame). I already tried several methods:

    • Uninstalling XI player associated with the application of advanced uninstaller. Put it back, with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
    • Complete uninstall of the CD with AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2015 player. Then reinstall > unsuccessful
    • I also tried the CD Player update to the latest version, and then using to repair mechanism (help > repair installation) > same result

When I open the CD (shortcut or *.exe) directly, it runs normally and it allows me to open probably almost any PDF file as in the past. But if I trie to open any PDF file, it doesn't do anything. After consulting the table of processes through the Task Manager, I discovered that there are two processes that are running in the background "Adobe Acrobat Reader (32-bit) DC". It is + 2 after trying to open another PDF file / CD player.

I also had this same problem on different machines. This is quite annoying, because I don't want to use the native Windows player...

    My current status:

HP ZBook 15, i7-4800MQ, 16 GB of RAM

    MS Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)

  • p6230y, windows 7, "Cannot open this file" wmv.

Clicked on help from online site. Read info endless, obtuse and confusing re what is a Windows Media file, developed and used by Microsoft to "improve your media experience" and demanding a codec (?) service. How did HP does not have the 'full monty' when it preloaded my new (bought this month) computer with W7? I'm already worried now that I scanned the posts and found nothing even remotely like this... Any help will be appreciated

The codec to read mp4 is delivered as part of the operating system Win 7. I think I have issues playing more res mp4, for example 1080 p. I need to install Quicktime for this, but the 480 p, 720 p seem to play fine.

    should [1] I really KB2631813?

[2] my computer seems not to like it.

[3] do you think that KB2631813 is really all this effort?

A1. Yes, as much as you need at every update of safety critical other.

Note that the vulnerability being patched (e.g., MS12-004) requires KB2598479 and KB2631813 to install! IOW, your computer is still vulnerable to the exploit if if KB2631813 is not installed.

A2. Your computer 'loved' KB975562 (which is replaced or replaced by KB2631813), so it should also 'like' KB2631813.

A3. Is the security of your computer and data to this topic (e.g., banking online & credit card passwords) really this effort?
