  If I understand this right info your a Portege already maximum RAM.
  Is that your laptop Portege can manage with 8 GB memory max. On board, there are already 4 GB and there is only one slot of RAM available for upgrade that also contains a 4 GB RAM module.
  In other words, your laptop is already maximum RAM and upgrade is not possible.

  See page 47. Pavilion 15 manuals are often a bit difficult to understand, does not mean that they are sometimes a bit misleading.   LabVIEW 8.2.1 (which seems to be the version you're using) automatically manages the allocation of memory up to 2 gigabytes.  LabVIEW 8.5 and later supported the use of up to 4 gigabytes.
