Ive had many problems with the laptop advised to go in the boot mode and diagnostic test completes execution, there were a few errors there, but I don't know how to solve.

I still seem to have problems, Ive tried to put restore point, but it never ends prog it says theres an error.

I can do a factory on the system restore, fast support, I'm not very computer im afraid, so answers in terms of idiots thank you

Hi lynflex,

Did you follow the suggestions in the link I posted above?

If this isn't the case, please do.

Logs the events on Windows systems are useful for troubleshooting when things go wrong and monitoring performance and behavior. An event includes information about the type of accident, the date and time when it happened, the computer where he arrived and the user who was logged on at the time, and other information such as event ID, event category, and the source of the event. Events may also include detailed information on the event and, possibly, a link where more information can be found.

Follow the link given in my post above for the information of the newspaper. You should be able to find the information of the description of the event log. Double-click the event to check details.

Kind regards

  • VDR causing many changes in disk block.

So I have two equallogic SAN is being replicated on a 20 MB WAN link.  During the day, my volumes will create like 3 GB of changes every every 8 hours. I have also setup VDR to make a backup on another volume on the SAN is not replicated.  I see that when done VDR saves my virtual machine, this generates a lot of changes on my volumes that have then been replicated.  What is VDR to my vmdk to make so many changes?  What is normally about 3 GB of changes, VDR will create approximately 17 GB of changes.  I'm guessing something with CBT (change tracking block) generates these big Delta?

    Thank you

    -Craig

I guess the reason for this is that VDR - as well as other backup solutions - create a snapshot of the VM before doing the backup job and then - once the backup is complete - deletions / consolidates the snapshot.

This means that during the backup, all changes within the guest OS what are written in a snapshot file, which - after the backup - merged for the Basic virtual disk. This double the blocks of data that must be replicated between your storage systems.

  • Satellite M40X-126: disk blocks when the DVD-RAM has been inserted

    Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite M40X-126 with a super multi drive installed. I have a problem with writing to DVD-RAM. Sometimes, when I try to write data to a DVD-RAM disc, the DVD player makes a strange noise, as if the mechanic of material is blocked inside the car. The laptop will not write any data on him and he doesn't notch in this noise. And I can't open the drive, because it is blocked by the software. And windows is blocked as well, I can't do anything. The only thing I can do, is stopped the laptop by pressing the power on button a few seconds.

I do not think, it is a software problem. I have installed all the necessary drivers (UDF) is installed correctly. And DVD - RAM writing runs smoothly most of the time. But I have every 5 times I insert a DVD-RAM disc makes it drive this strange noise and everything is blocked.

My disc is damaged? Who has the same behavior?

    Thank you

    Reto

    Hi Reto

I have the same drive, but it works without problem. I know that DVD-RAM media are expensive, but all I can suggest is you buy another provider and check if it will happen again.

  • Changing the block size of 8 MB on local hard disk in esx 3.5 u4

    Hai

I want to adjust the size of the blocks of the local disk block size is 1 MB, I want it 8 MB so as to p2v a 600 GB machine in to the esx host has 800 GB hard drive. I know the following command

To change the size of the block of the vmfs file system, you must use vmkfstools to reformat the partition. The command is:

    vmkfstools - vmfs3 - blocksize 8 M vmhba0:0:0:5 createfs

but this command returns an error to handle attention I think that this command does that for logical unit number not local hard drive of the esx hosts tell me how to change the size of the block of your local hard disk in esx not lun

    VAMSi

Under ESX / Setup / storage, you need to remove the data with the wrong block size store (don't forget that you have a backup of your virtual machine).

So simple, you can choose to add a new data store (link on top-right), you will see free space (the old leaves) and you can choose the size of the block.

  • Barracuda Backup - changed block tracking does not properly

    Greetings,

    What is going on:

In a Word. I am trying to solve a problem with a backup of Barracuda and the block change tracking.  It happened from the server (as well as the Barracuda 190) has been installed long ago.

Long story short. With CBT activated (changed block Tracking) Barracuda is supposed only to save "disk blocks has changed."  She doesn't at the level of virtualization, no comments. In my case, it's back up about 124 GB every night. (2-3 hours of the device), and then from 10 to 12 hours to move to the cloud.

    MY SYSTEM:

There is only 1 VM (comments) on the host computer. The two drives on the computer virtual (comments) are a 60 GB drive OS (SBS Server Essentials of 2012) and 100 GB data disc.  Both have 33 GB used on each of them (66GB total).  Changed nightly expected data should be an absolute maximum of 6-8 GB each night much less commonly.

Nothing about the host OR virtual machine (guest) server is added to the 124 to 128 GB that says Barracuda is saved.

HOW CAN I KNOW IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY? :

I have two other systems in separate buildings that work as expected. So, I have an A, B, C comparison.  A and B are working properly. C is not.   They are all the same hardware platform HP ML350p Gen8. They are all configured as except for the sizes and quantities of drives in the RAID 5 group. They are all ESXi if the one in question is on 5.1.0, and the other two are on 5.5.0.

Not that it matters, but the guests on these systems are: host a system has a brand new 2012 R2 STD Server .  B host has a system "autonomous converted" SBS 2011 .  C host system has a new 2012 Essentials server.

    WHAT DID I TRY? :

I made sure all the settings in the settings have CBT enabled and set to true.  I tried to re - set up a new selection of backup within the Barracuda 190. I made contact with technicians Barracuda of 1st and 2nd level support on several occasions. Initially, they said it was a problem of snapshot.  I looked the better shots I knew how (I'm a noob, but I got some great info here about how to look at snapshots and VM running of stains from p_hall), then when they couldn't tell me where in the phase of snapshot, it was, they said 'it works as expected. , (and even if I have only 66 gb of disk space used on a total of 160 GB on reviews) "isn't really 125 GB backup every night. It just reports that it is.  Still my bandwidth says otherwise.   WHAT !!!!!!!!???????

Finally, I took the well-known Barracuda of the FD (from system B Barracuda) and put it on the DP (in lieu of system C Barracuda) for a few nights.  He behaved exactly like original C system Barracuda. He supported 128 and about 147 GB the first night the next two nights.

See attachment for samples of the reports at the end of last year backup 3 systems. Yes, they are older, but the results are the same.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?  Thank you.

I want to mention that my problem is now solved. Still using CBT, my nightly backups are more in line with what is, was expected.  Instead of backup 128 GB EVERY night (I still don't know whence the figure), I support anywhere from 3 to 15 GB per night.  A difference.

The problem has been resolved with a simple upgrade to ESXi 5.1 to 5.5 upd 2.  No other changes made.

Wouldn't be an accurate assumption that unlike VM KB 1020128 that CBT is, in fact, NOT compatible with the ESXi5.1?

I'll be the first to admit that VMWare is not my forte.  That said, I'm rather discouraged that there no one answer to my post with suggestions.  I post in the wrong place. Poor choice of title/key words? It was poorly made? Unintelligible?

According to me, that I was very thorough in my research on the issue.  I found this which mentions clearly the CBT is supported in ESXi 4 and more.

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=1020128

I was diligent in troubleshooting up to the point where I pretty much dismissed everything except the host operating system.

Not knowing how big the community is, I would think that there is someone out there with my exactly the same problem, or at least there was someone out there who was successfully in 5.1 ESXi with CBT on a system of Barracuda.

I am open to any suggestion that may make future messages/questions to gather more responses.

    Thank you.

  • Unregistering removed a unit of replication of disks instead of destination

We reinstall our vCenter and will be re-registering/move our unit of replication. We have extremely large drives to our Dr site that we cannot allow to be planted again. Opt-out of the former vCenter unit will cause these discs to remove? I am also told that replication is of ESXi to ESXi host. So if remove us the replication device will always continue? Just trying to figure the best way to re - install replication without causing these disks of destination should be deleted.

    Hello

VR device is related to the installation of vCenter server and maintains the object identifiers internal managed vCenter VMS and hosts and data warehouses.

VR device cannot meet another server vCenter Server with id values different managed object.

Withdrawal of the army with the VR of the vCenter Server inventory unit, even with again add it back, will make it useless.

Remove a source VM (or its host) to vCenter inventory had RV removed all knowledge on this virtual machine and this includes the removal of the disc replica of the remote site (except when you set up replication, the existing disks were used as initial copies).

In your case you can do:

    1. perform failover for all virtual machines that are replicated, without turning off the original source of VMs and without turning on/off the Unregister VMs. recovered the VMs recovered inventory of vCenter target, while keeping records on data warehouses.

2 do whatever management is necessary on the vCenter (s) and presenters.

    3. If DB vCenter is a novelty - deploy the new device of VR.

4 configure replication from scratch and direct them to use existing records in the target as the initial seed for replication data warehouses. This will still show as initial full-synchronization in the UI, however, checksum is performed and only the different disk blocks are exchanged.

    Kind regards

  • Conversion of thick disks into thin, but not for any space back

    Hi all

We have been the conversion of the virtual disks from thick to thin over 30 servers using the method in offline mode, as we don't have storage vmotion:

    vmkfstools-i SERVERNAME.vmdk d thinSERVERNAME.vmdk thin

The virtual machine is a good mix of NT4 until 2008, vsphere 4.1 all patches installed until 01/05/11. Some we have been recovery of space well when comparing the original vmdk and sizes of vmdk converted file on the console with 'ls s' and 'Browse datastore' in the viclient, but others that we do not get something back into space?

Using Windows disk defrag to analyze the disks it shows there are no data at the end of the disc also surely the disc should shrink to where the last piece of data on the disk is?

What you have to do to thin to reclaim any unused space on the virtual FRONT thickness conversion machine drive?

Once that a disk block was written for her data even if the files have been deleted. You must use something like sdelete before use vmkfstools. Products like sdelete zero free space allowing you to reduce the disk.

How a disk get thick-eager reset default? That is to say. is it possible to my model?

Yes, use the data store Navigator to inflate the disk in question.

What are the benefits/drawbacks of being thick-eager to zero, rather than just thick?

A thick disk eager-reset to zero has all the space allocated and set to zero at the time of the creation. This extends the time it takes to create the disc, but the results in the best performance, even on the first entry for each block.

  • Question about data block address (DBA)

    Hi all

The disk block has its own s/n (data block address) and when it is read into the buffer cache, he has a memory address (I'm just guessing).
If my assumption is correct, the DBA and memory address have any relationship, i.e. a mechinsm of mapping?

    Best regards
    Leon

    Laughing out loud
There is NO relationship between the address of a block on the disk (the file / block number) and address when it is in memory. Keep in mind, first, that there could be several copies a block of memory.

By 'relationship', I mean that you can not say "because this block disk address is X the memory address is there.
There is a relationship between the address block and 'cache buffers chain' that the block will be associated with - and that's how Oracle knows how to find the block of memory, he knows what channel it should be, so he goes to the beginning of the relevant channel and starts walking he controls each link in the chain for the right version of the block on the right. (The string is a list of related entries of x$ bh, of course, not a linked list of actual copies of blocks).

  • Size of allocation for scratch disk array

I am building a workstation CS5/64 works on Win 7/64 that will be used to edit images from 1 to 4 GB. The "scratch disks" will consist of a RAID 0 array using WD600Gb of 3-4 disks of 10 K on a map of the Areca shortstroked.
What is the best band size for a 3-4 record for large images? Adobe publishes how they R/W for scratch disk, block size, etc?

    Larry

Usually data written Photoshop scratch in the size of the tiles in the image (as seen in the preferences).

To save the files, we write big buffers, and the buffer size may vary according to the format options and compression.

In addition, it is not really a model.

And the best settings for your table will much depend on the controller and the drives used.

  • DB_WRITER_PROCESSES

    Hi guys,.

The [Oracle reference | http://www.acs.ilstu.edu/docs/oracle/server.101/b10755/initparams055.htm] says to DB_WRITER_PROCESSES

    Integer parameter type
By default the value 1 or CPU_COUNT / 8, if it is greater
    Not editable
Range of values from 1 to 20
    Basic No.

Why are told that it is not editable? I thought that we could change this setting to specify the number of DBW we want began at the start of the instance.

    Thank you

    Don't forget that:

    Database writer (DBWR) process.

1 performs all writing of buffers of data files.
2 is responsible for the management of the buffer cache.

    Management of the buffer Cache.

    1. when a buffer in the buffer cache is modified, it is marked "dirty".
2 DBWR maintains the 'clean' buffer cache by writing Sales buffers to disk.
    3. as the buffers are filled and dirtied by the user process, the number of free buffers decreases. If the number of free buffer drops too low, process user who should read disk blocks in the cache is not able to find free tampons. DBWR manages the buffer cache so that the user process can always find free tampons.
    4. an LRU (least recently used) algorithm keeps the most recently used data in memory blocks

The process DBWR writes dirty buffer on the drive under these conditions:

    * When a server process moves a buffer to the dirty list and discovers that the dirty list has reached a length threshold, the server signals DBWR to write process.
    * When a process server research a threshold buffer LRU list without finding a buffer without, it stops searching and signals DBWR to write (because that not free enough buffers are available and DBWR must make room for more).
    * When a timeout occurs (three seconds), DBWR reports itself.
    * In the case of a checkpoint, the Log Writer (LGWR) signals DBWR process.

  • Two libraries are taking place.

    Hello!

I noticed that I have two libraries of photos (iPhoto and Photos) on my hard drive, and they are both the same size. In the photo, they are visualized with the two largest squares. Thew are almost identical, so I'm assuming they are duplicates of each other.

How can I get rid of one of the libraries without losing all the photos?

IPhot Library and photo library are looking just as they would need twice the storage. When pictures created the library of pictures he created the images in the photo library as hard links images in IPhoto. Hard links are files of the same size as the originals, but stored on the same disk blocks, so the s of storage used only once. The Finder and other tools report the storage you use incorrectly.  You can delete the iPhoto, iPhoto library library, but wait until you are sure that all the Phoztos and the metadata have been migrated correctly. I would like to keep a backup.

    Thanks in advance!

This SP is very, very old model laptop so I put t think you can order somewhere try to check eBay. You will find lots of different parts for old models of laptops. In the worst case buy a defective SP 6100 and use it for parts.
    > Secondly, this model uses a hard drive spindle adapter?
I n t think so, but you can check it yourself. You can remove very easy HDD. HARD drive cover is fixed with a screw. When you remove the HARD drive cover, pull the disk block HARD on vinyl of the HARD drive battery handle.
