  If you are referring to my previous post, you can configure your access point in Repeater mode and router and wireless access point communicates and it will send the signal wireless to your laptop. If you want to connect the AP wired to the router then configure the AP in AP Mode.

I am currently in an environment with no controller wireless and wifi uses two WAP321 Cisco.  The company wants to expand the wireless and bought a Cisco 2504 wireless controller and a controller of Cisco Aironet 2602e WAP.  My question is when we will start using the controller can he control the WAP321 formerly controller - less or will be replaced by a different Cisco Aironet 2602e?  Thank you.

  WLC 2504 will not support AP321s.  Talk to your dealer of Cisco and see if they accept if you want to trade the AP321 for the AP 2602.

  Make sure that your AP 2602 have the appropriate regulatory domain.  If you are not sure, DO NOT open the boxes.

  Another thing, for AP 2600, your 2504 should have the minimum firmware of 7.2.110.X.  IF you do not, then talk to the Cisco authorized dealer who sold you the controller and kindly ask (nicely) if they can download the firmware for you.

• Material selection/setup help

  I am helping to set up a network in their new premises and want to see if my choice of equipment is correct.  The products of the small business suite seemed to meet our needs better I could say. There are a dizzying number of products to choose from. I did my best.

  Here are the conditions:

  1 need a point of access wireless to manage a connection to Internet only and a connection used to network services Corp. and Internet.

  2. they have two buildings with a fiber multimode link between them.

  3. each building will have security camera with PoE.

  4. remote access to all the VLANS in the buildings (except comments)

  a. PCAnywhere on VLAN30 PC security

  b. file services on VLAN20

  5. all the VLANS need to access to the internet.  I guess the Mgmt VLAN40 wouldn't need it.

  I had planned to purchase the following:

  WAP561 wireless - wanted both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz of spectrum

  Switch SF300 - 24 p - 1 for each building w / a module 1000Base-SX MGBSX1 for fiber link

  RV320 Router/VPN

  My first attempt to design was to create the VLAN following on all devices

  1 - default VLAN, VLAN native - nothing will use this

  10 - Guest, WAP only, NO cable connections

  20 - corp, WAP and wired

  30 - security, Wired only at this time

  40 - Mgmt, WAP and wired

  Circuits carrying all them VLAN will be used for the AP<->Switch1,

  Router<->Switch1 and Switch2 connections<->Switch1.

  I'm more concerned about the configuration of the router/VPN.

  Until we decide on adding VPN for the project that I thought it wouldn't be hard to do. Disable the Inter-VLAN routing, configure a DHCP pool for each VIRTUAL LAN and everyone stay out of each other. But then I opened my big mouth and asked if they wanted a remote access.

  So, what VPN configuration would allow us to do all the VLANS? PPTP would work better? There are Inter-VLAN routing? If I turn the routing Inter-VLAN would be that this means that might enjoy other VLAN? An access list will allow me to keep the guests of enjambment?

  Any glare issues anyone sees?

  Hi Mark, admittingly I'm not familiar with the new RV320 router or the new WAP. However, I can say that the basic set up should work as expected and you have correctly identified the remote access is the hitch.

  On the previous routers RV PPTP would be easier to get on the network. The real question is, the remote connection what resource t - it need access to? Certainly not a network of comments. In the past, if you wanted to PPTP intervlan communicate that you need to connect in one subnets defined and have the intervlan routing active the PPTP protocol.

  This provides a different scenario. Which means that this would require the access lists on the ports on the switch for the traffic of infiltration should be blocked access to unwanted resources. I don't know if the RV320 supports inter - vlan ACL, I know it has been introduced on the RV220w, but that may be another idea to fight against this concept.

  So I think that consideration for now is, who needs access to that as a remote connection?

• Re-setup help

  I am trying to activate the software after you reinstall programs after a hard disk crash. When I try and see something (file) that I previously created, it comes with a window that says "the configuration of the license for Adobe Creative Suite is more usable. Click OK to continue. "When I do, it is said that the serial numbers and activation are sent to Adobe for product activation and then it says activation failed because the server is not available at this time.  Then he gives me 3 options, viz) 1 to try again (obviously does not work!) 2) to cancel and skip the process at the moment, but will have to do the next time I access programs (immediately loggs by software) 3) to activate by phone.  However, when I try and activate by phone, it is said that the number of actvation (32 digits that appears on the screen) is incorrect.  When I try and out he said that the grace period of 30 days to use the product without activation has expired.

  Please help me because I need to have access to this software!

• Need help setting up network home (Windows 7 Professional)

  I don't know why I have so much trouble with this.  I think that I never properly put in place a network before.  Usually, I just turn on my router with a password, and then the phone and other devices connect directly to the router.  I just got a new computer with Windows 7 Professional and it is prompting me to create a home network - and have apparently created a new password for the 'network' that is different from the password for the router.  I have a feeling that this will be easy, but I do not get set up correctly.

  First question, in the instructions to configure the network at a time given, was asked if all "clients" had a "wifi protected setup" button

  What is a 'client' on the network?  My router Linksys has one of these buttons (I pushed him, but he could not get connect/setting up with Windows 7).  Is a router from a client?  If so, a client what?  (I do not understand the use of the term client.)

  Here's what I would do.  I have internet entering a cable modem.  Ethernet to the modem router Linksys WRT54G.  (I don't remember the exact model.  It has a button "wifi protection setup.  Ethernet to the router to the desktop.  The router's Ethernet compatible HP printer wifi (which is currently on its own network).  The Windows account has two users (mine, of my wife).  The goal is to have a single network, with the office and the connected printer, and who I can connect with my iPhone.  And I want to be able to print wireless from my iPhone to the printer.

  Here's what I did.  There is a lot of information, but if all goes well it will prevent additional questions.

  I have reset the router and went to the 192.168.1.1. page.  In the Administration tab, I created a new password - which I thought was the password for the network.  I was not the case.  In the wifi tab, I looked for a place to put a password, but could not find one.

  I went on the computer, the network options in Control Panel to add a new network.  I was able to get a new network with the computer (LAN) connected to the router, but I couldn't get wifi to set up.  He told me to press the setting button of protection wifi on the router, but after a long delay, he said that he could not establish a connection.  Finally, I got a message (I don't know how) if I wanted to connect older devices to the network, I need to put a code - 12 letters/numbers with dashes.  I don't know what types of devices called it.  So, I found in managing network a "network key" tab  It was the same code - and it also seemed to work as wifi password.  But I can't change it to something that is possible to remember.

  And I can't do the printer on the same network as the computer.

  I guess I'm going something wrong.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

  You need to connect the printer to the network wireless router.  It's pretty easy, but if you want a specific rather than general instructions, please provide the exact model of your HP printer.

  If the MBR becomes corrupted, it is probably a hardware failure. Assuming that a /fixmbr is set, the cause may be RAM. Try to run the Windows Recovery mode Memory Diagnostic tool and check.

  I don't know exactly what is your configuration, but it seems that we need to ensure that your printer is set up on your wireless network.

  First you must connect to the wireless network, then download and install the printer software. Instructions are on this page: printer Wireless Installation. If you have already done these steps, go to the next paragraph.

  Then, install the printer on a network with Apple AirPort.  Instructions are here: setting up your HP printer on a network with Apple AirPort. The steps in this document assume that you have already configured your base station AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station on your network. If you have not set up your base station AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station on your wireless network, visit the Apple support page.

  I wouldn't have to worry about firmware download now. Start with the steps above. For your information, you must select "Officejet and Printsmart,' which are like your printer ink jet printers.

  How to connect my laptop to the printer by wireless?

  Well, there are several ways to do that, but in a few words:

  1 connect your printer to your network wirelessly (using the Setup Wizard wireless on the front of the printer).

  2. tell your computer which is the printer on the wireless network.  This can be done by updating the HP software that is on your computer, or if it is not there yet, gettting the latest software for your printer from the "support and drivers" link at the top of this page.

  Sorry - I forgot that the CCA maintains this pool as a reserved setting.  There is a work around using CCA property:

  1. click on routing > IP addresses and set up the default VLAN (1) with your default LAN IP address (if you really want to use your LAN subnet 192.168.75.0/24, change the address used for VLAN 75 first something else)

  2. go to switching > Smart Ports and change each LAN port roles to the desktop using native VLAN1.  In doing so, I recommend the following steps:

  (a) change the role of the three ports you are not currently logged in and apply this configuration

  (b) close the CCA (don't worry save anything at this point)

  (c) exchanging your PC connection to one of the ports that you simply reconfigured

  (d) statically configure your PC with an address in the subnet that you used in step 1

  (e) raise the CCA and connect to the IP address that you configured in step 1

  (f) the role of the port that you were connected initially and apply this configuration change.

  3. go in security > NAT and parameters of removal/re-enable to ensure the VLAN1 is now included

  4. click on security > firewall and make sure the VLAN 1 is included as a trust interface and apply.

  This process, although a bit long, should ensure that you can continue to use the CCA without problem in the future.

  If you really want to use CLI, you should just be able to run:

  config t

  No ip dhcp inside pool

  I don't know if CCA will complain of it being missing / try to replace in the future however.

  We have 4 Cisco Aironet 1200 Access Points and they are all set to authenticate with our RADIUS server. However, authentication is hooked and can't understand why. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with Cisco Aironet 1200 Access Points configuration?

  OK, I do not work with the GUI so although the memory is a little hazy but from the APs home page look on the left hand side and there is an option for something like "Software Setup" or something to that effect. You should be able to find the IOS version of here. This requires that you are indeed runnig IOS code. How old are these APs? If more than a few years ago (and perhaps even more recent) that they could very well be running VxWorks and then we are in a different ball game. If you see what I have described above and the homepage for the AP is often white with a bit of greenish-blue, bluish-green color then IOS, if it is more colorful, yellow stuff and VxWOrks.
