27 "mid 2011 iMac drive solid state drive is dead and must be replaced. Is this easier to do than to to replace a HDD with a SSD? I hope I can do it myself.

My 27 "mid 2011 iMac drive solid state drive is dead and must be replaced. The SSD originally came with the computer and not a subsequent update. I understand that a SSD replacing a HARD drive is quite complex, but would be more simple replacement of a dead with a new SSD SSD? I hope I could make myself.

Even as the replacement of a HARD drive. However, go to OWC buy the connector of the special drive that has the necessary temperature control that is not part of the SSD, because it is for the stock of HARD drive.

Hi there, since a terrible week for me I started to receive the error message:

Hard drive failure is imminent and must be replaced

only when am re - / from my PC.

I made a backup already a few days ago (space available was already 85% - did not much), run all those disk cleanup, defragmentation, analyze and verify programs and there was nothing wrong. I ran all possible controls and it had nothing recorded. I've updated / installed Windows 8 which works perfectly without any problems, no computer crash or that it is, but only sometimes receive a message saying that I need to run/shedule a back, etc.

As I already mentioned, there was no disk error, no other problems known but still get the message "hard drive failure is imminent and should be replaced" and crazy!

    My questions are:

    (1) what on Earth is happening, there is always a problem with touch smart PC; should he stay away all in a desktop PC and just buy older versions - separate screen and tour, etc.?

    (2) I have no problem and continue to use my PC but wonder what will happen; It will be down, it's just a false error message, what should I do?

    (3) if I have to take it to a service, what should I take care of?

Thank you for taking your time and wil appreciate for your posts about.

    Hello

What has happened is that the CHIP system reports told you that your hard drive will fail little time. It is good that you have saved.  The fault lies not in all of your PC, but in a single component, namely the hard disk. You own your PC like one year standard warranty is longer.

You need to buy a hard drive with the following specifications. It of time to find your recovery disc as you need to recover your PC in its delivered State and then apply the upgrade 8 to win again. You can install it yourself or have done by a qualified PC store or from an HP Service Technician. The HP service center is the most expensive option.

You can avoid having to use the recovery disk and upgrade by a clone of your hard drive on a 1.5 TB external drive. You will be able to migrate the clone on the new diskette with a product commercially available as Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12.

    iMac (27 inch, mid 2011)

    2.7 Ghz i5

    12 GB of RAM

I have a fault where the HARD drive fan runs at max speed (RPM 5431, 51 * C temp).

The first symptom was a rattling noise from the factory 1 TB HARD drive, which has disappeared from the system, to be replaced by a disk of 4 GB in size. Then the fan started running at max speed.

A few months ago, I installed a 2nd drive HARD, an SSD and use this to all the data, so the 1 TB drive HARD original was basically unused and empty. To try and stop the fan and also run the disk diagnostics failed I've removed it from the iMac. However the HARD drive fan is always full.

I ran the Apple Hardware Test and received the error message: 4SNS/1/40000000: TH00 - 9,000

Given the primary SATA HDD is now removed, I also set the temperature probe? Are there other fixes to this problem of fan? I didn't intend on replacing the HARD disk immediately that this is not necessary at this stage.

    Thank you!

  • mid-2011 iMac pinging

My iMac mid-2011 has recently started to make a 'click '. Click on... Click on... Click on... "noise from the top right of the screen. Generally, this occurs when the computer is warm to the touch during the execution of a sustained load and ends shortly after the closure of the intensive application of resources. The nose is frequently accompanied by beach balls and/or crashes.

The last accident happened when I was an hour or two in a game of Civ5. Click ended after that I saved and you leave the game, but the next morning, the iMac doesn't have to awaken from its sleep, showing a black screen with a white spinning indicator. Recovery required a stop forced through the power button and restart.

Anyone know which components are at the top right of an iMac which can be faulty or needs to be replaced?

    HI people,

I recently saved to buy an iMac 27 "new and currently owns a mid-2011 21.5" I iMac with connectivity thunderbolt.

is it possible that I could achieve the following objectives:

    (i) to use the 2011 Mac as a second screen

(II) to use 500 GB HD for Mac 2011 as an external HD/Time Machine

(III) (use the Mac SuperDrive 2011 to read and burn DVDs?

Ideally I could do all three at the same time if all the recommendations of how it can be done, if it is indeed possible, would be appreciated.

    Best,

    Michael

You can do all these things, but not at the same time. Sell iMac and buy a screen, an external optical drive and an external hard drive. Then take the money left and there are remains of money, and do something fun!

  • Crashed hard drive and must be replaced

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60-204NR, which is not quite 2 years old. The hard drive broke down. I would first like to know if you can tell me if this laptop is 32-bit or 64-bit, and which drive hard ability then I replace the damaged with? I don't know what is needed to replace the hard drive. This laptop came with Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1. Thank you. Linda

Normally, I would ask you if you are running 32 or 64 bit, but according to your specifications you are running 2 GB of RAM, which would indicate that it is 32-bit. It takes at least 3 GB of RAM to run 64-bit.

You can use almost all SATA 2.5-inch drive in it. The largest capacity as 1 terabyte or more are too thick and doesn't work.

I'd go for at least 500 GB drive at 7200 RPM / min. Seagate is a nice hybrid drive that is fast enough and is still affordable.

    http://www.Seagate.com/www/en-us/products/laptops/laptop-HDD/

Install the new drive and use your HP recovery DVD to reinstall your operating system.

Do you know how to replace a hard drive?

  • Measures of software right for remove mSata 32 GB drive cache to replace the HDD with SSD.

Hi, does anyone have instructions, or so point me to an article, to remove the disc from cache mSata original 32 GB configured to speed up drive HARD etc so the office strictly from the HARD drive boot can drive alone. I know that this implies the RST and possibly the BIOS settings. I'm looking for the exact steps that I had bad experiences removal (and adding) 32 GB mSata led cache in the past. System does not boot... Note I didn't need no guidance on physically remove the disk and for the curious once I have a clean boot of the only HARD disk I will clone the SSD (2.5 which I already have) so the 32 GB mSata is redundant and I would remove it completely. I am also interested by your experiences and/or complications in doing this. Thank you.

These instructions may be of any Dell desktop, the office in question is a Dell XPS 8700.

    Hi all

Here are the exact steps I used to replace a HARD drive accelerated with an SSD without any problem. It will probably work on most laptops and Dell desktop computers. In my case a Dell XPS 8700 running Windows Pro 64-bit 10.

1 rapid Storage Technology, performance-> Disable Acceleration tab-> makes available.

    2. use DISKPART to CLEAN the drive 32 GB mSata.

    3. run msconfig.exe to set the mode to boot without failure, a minimum.

    4 stop.

    5. press F2 at startup to enter BIOS. Change to AHCI RAID. (probably not necessary, but I wanted that you never know what SSD tools may need).

6 mine starts in Mode safe very well and it has changed Windows 10 AHCI RAID drivers automatically.

7 run msconfig.exe to change normal startup.

    8 re-boot (started fine normal start-up).

    9. I then stop and removed the 32 GB mSata reader (you probably do this stage 4)

10 success, XPS 8700 AHCI HHD boots without any problem.

    11. I then used Acronis True Image HD provided for free with the 1050 GB Crucial SSD to clone the 2 TB drive (650 GB used). Important do not use Acronis in Windows mode but create and boot from a bootable USB key. Community.crucial.com/.../172487

12 put the SSD in a basket of 3.5 and swapped the HHD with the SSD. Now, it starts in a few seconds and not minutes after a Windows 10 update!

It worked for me, but obviously not guaranteed to work for you...

Long story short, I bought a Samsung 40 "4 k to use as an external monitor TV. I know that my iMac 2011 environment would not be able to manage the 4 k output but I expect to get at least 2 k (2560 x 1440) as the native of 27 "resolution. However, after using the 4 k Belkin mini displayport to HDMI Cable, my output resolution is always capped at 1080 p. Is there anything I can do to at least get 2560 x 1440 on my new external?

I tried now press the option key while selecting the resolution in the preferences, still no luck.

It is Belkin cable that i've got from Apple Store http://www.belkin.com/us/F2CD080-Belkin/p/P-F2CD080/

Thank you very much for your support.

The maximum external resolution for any iMac 2011 is 2560 x 1600 pixels up to a 30 "screen.

Before any thing let double check that you're not missreading disk management, disconnect your external drive and all other devices, re-booting, it starts?

    If it isn't

    Disconect all the external devices

    (1) if its a dvd win7 real victory dvd insert & re-booting, it starts from the dvd victory, early in the process if it detects remove them all partitions, then continue the installation using all the free space.

Then connect to the internet and allow windows updates important to do its thing, it may require several reboots and update runs.

Install your anti virus program, if a PC brand visit the site PC manufacturers and install drivers specific to win7 for your model, if a generic desktop computer, motherboard manufacturers site for their drivers.

Check the basic operation of the PC before going any further, if all OK just reinstall your media origonal programs.
