2nd display after automatic updates installation of HP lost

I have a HP Envy Touchsmart Sleekbook 4 running Windows 8.1 (64-bit).  Everything worked fine the software auto-HP told me to install updates 8.  I did it and after her, my 2nd screen not working anymore (today is 28/06/14).

The charm of "Devices" / project tells me "your PC can not project to another screen.  Try reinstalling the driver or a different video card. »

According to the HP '?' software, my current driver is an Intel HD Graphics 4000, version 10.18.10.3412 (22/01/14).

Where can I get the driver for this PC and how do I install it?

Thank you

Hi Yago-NJ

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it's a great place to find answers. You have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to draw your attention to the Guide of the Forums HP first time here? Learn how to publish and more.

I understand that after the installation of updates you are more able to project on a second screen.

HP produce many models of n HP Envy Touchsmart Sleekbook 4.  You can get the drivers for your device out of the page HP drivers & downloads for your model. You will need to enter the exact model and follow the prompts. How can I find my model number or product number?

When you have the page and you have selected the driver, click more details.  Installation instructions will appear.

You could do a restore before it happened. Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)

You can also try a Refresh Your PC to solve problems (Windows 8)

Did you try to uninstall and reinstall the driver in Device Manager?

You can try to install the original driver in the Recovery Manager.  Using the Recovery Manager to restore the software and drivers (Windows 8)

You upgrade Windows 8 to 8.1?

I hope this helped, if not what would you back with your contact information and the results of your attempts to correct the problem.

  • Laptop crashes / freezes after automatic update and reboot yesterday evening

I left my laptop on last night and when I woke up this morning, it was restarted.  I assumed that an update was downloaded and installed during the night, as I put it in place for auto Windows Installer updated to date.  When I tried to stop, would not display the start menu, then I got the message that windows Explorer has stopped working and I got the info to send to Microsoft dialog box.  I chose to send information about the problem, but then I got a message that the error report had stopped working, I wanted to send information to Microsoft... nothing has worked right after that.  The arrow of the mouse move but no program would go, and I couldn't access the start menu to stop.  I tried Ctrl/alt/del but nothing happened.

I forced a restart and booted in safe mode.  I did a system restore to a point marked as an update of windows at 03:00 this morning.  The laptop booted up normally after that; I opened and closed some programs without any problem, so I thought that the problem has been resolved.

I was using the laptop at school (I'm a teacher) and everything was fine until I tried to close Word.  He hung up and I couldn't do anything else.  Yet once, mouse move but nothing else has worked, and I couldn't access the Task Manager.

I did a system restore to the point where I have installed several updates yesterday afternoon.  Has not fixed the problem.  I did a last restoration to a regular point since the day before yesterday... still has not fixed the problem.  I am now running my AVG Anti-virus in safemode, but he still found nothing.

I need help!  I have a HP laptop which is one year (and only 2 weeks after the end of the one year warranty) and I am running Vista with Office XP.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think it's fixed... fingers crossed.

After that start above safe mode, I have restarted in normal mode in order to save what I could and uninstalled a few things.  In the process, I found the place to uninstall windows updates.  There were two listed as installed in 2010 - one is an update of windows and the other was a security update.  I uninstalled both.  I was using my computer all the rest of that day and had no more problems.  I do not know what updates, I uninstalled, but one or both must have caused the problem.  I wish I knew of to do it sooner, but honestly, I think that to do a system restore would be uninstall updates added from this point.  I know better now and I have disabled the automatic updates, so I hope that this will not happen.  Thanks for your help, even if it wasn't what ended up working :)

I run my computer 24/7 and keep programs I need to run all the time. I have automatic updates turned on and off because after the update, it restarts the computer and I lost all the information that I have been woking on. It is extremely irritating and the last time it was the case that I had not saved the data I was working for school and I lost everything. Hours and hours of hard work was gone.

First of all, I would like to know why Microsoft would think that is a sensable solution just disable someones computer and second, I want to know how to solve this problem. I can't support any option option which will allow updates to download and install, but ask me when it's convenient for me to turn it back on.

    Nate Nate

    Hi Nate2551,

Sometimes, Windows Update may run in an instance where the file that Windows is trying to update is locked or in use. When this happens, Windows cannot apply the update until it can access these files. So that you can benefit from the update, Windows will ask you to restart your PC to continue the installation of the updates. Windows Update will remind you if you have to restart your PC to continue the installation of an update and you give the option to "reboot now" or will give you the option to postpone the restart. If you are away from your PC for a long period of time, you can see that it automatically restarts your PC. Windows does to make sure all the latest security and other updates are applied in a timely, to help keep your PC safer with little effort for you.
If you are a system administrator and you want to restart behavior control, you can use Group Policy to prevent reboots automatic situation every time the administrator is connected.

Access the link below and follow the steps carefully in the article below to configure automatic updates by using Group Policy or of registry settings.

After a clean install of Windows XP Edition family, I was unable to install the automatic updates.  Installed service pack 3 manually as suggested in this forum.  But now he repeats to me there are updates to install, it downloads and installs, then said done and it needs to restart.  But when it gets to the top of the Update icon is still there and you have to do it again

    Hi Mama04,

    1. what update has been installed on the computer?

Automatic update cannot remove or modify the user accounts on the computer.

If no password is always set on the computer, and then try to empty password i.e. press ENTER when never password prompt.

    Method 1

I suggest that you perform the system restore using the installation disc of Windows vista to the point before the update was installed.

Also check the update has been installed before the problem occurred.

    (a) open Windows Update by clicking Start , all programsand then click Windows Update.

    (b) in the left pane, click view update history.

Try the step below to achieve the system restore using the Windows vista installation disc.

If you have a Windows Vista installation disc, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc. If you do not restart your computer from the disk, the option to repair your computer will not appear.

    (a) Insert the installation disc.
    (b) restart your computer.
Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the lock button, and then click restart.
    (c) If you are prompted, Press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
Note  If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, seeBIOS: frequently asked questions.
    (d) choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    (e) click on repair your computer.
    (f) to select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    (g) in the System Recovery Options menu, click System Restore.

  • USB ports does not work after automatic update in Windows 8.

    Hello

There was an automatic update that occurred a few nights ago on my computer that I never knew until after that I turned on my computer back the next day. The computer starts up, then stopped and restarted about twice more - a total of three reboots in all.
It is really annoying, because my Bluetooth has also stopped working a few days before. So I'm completely paralyzed - I've been using USB keyboard and mouse since the Bluetooth went bankrupt. I can not connect.
The computer starts as usual. The 'numlock' keyboard lights, like the optical light under the mouse; This happens just before the Windows loading screen. However once windows loading screen comes and the "pearls" downstairs begin circulating, the mouse and the keyboard go quiet. I am sure that there is no hardware problems, and the keyboard and mouse work on my Mac very well.
I tried system restore and PC options refresh on the Startup Options page, but unfortunately, my hard drive is unlocked, and system restore won't work; It says that I need to specify which Windows Installation to restore. I also tried my options with the Windows CD.
Do a complete restore of the system is not really something I want or feel that I can do. Being the sidenote, I have school work on this machine in question, and it was already over. Otherwise, I would have not had any problems.
    Anyone had this problem before?

Hi, I just have this problem, but I have noticed that the driver has been disabled, when I activated, it works fine now.

In two weeks, after an update of HP launched automatically, my monitor is not recognized - I tried to restart my PC via the power button, but the action brought everything back without interruption to the place.  Finally I made the necessary update HP closed down and all was back to normal.  Last night I made a full stop and a Windows 7 launched updates (do not turn off your computer, etc..).  This morning when I powered back upward, I got messages on the windows during Setup, etc, then everything returned normally.  I worked for a few hours and left the machine - it entered into mode 'sleep' and now I can't get out of fashion "Eve".  If I power cycle the monitor, I can messages same "cannot detect.  If I try to shut down the PC via the power button, the light is orange/sleep, I hear a humming, then seeing if off, then back to orange/snoring, reverse, etc..  Keeps the bike like this.  I'm afraid that question a couple of weeks may have been a sign of early warning of a problem of h/w, but am not sure.  Can anyone help?  I am not very savvy h/w... and hope that it is something more simple than that.  The PC is 2.5 years.
