3 TB drive is not recognized

I have a 3 to external hard drive that windows xp does not recognize.  Y at - it a patch or a setting that I can change so that I can use the drive?  I tried this partitioning but that did not work.  Thank you!

What brand and model is the drive?

What brand and model is the external enclosure?

The problem may be that many readers (all?) with a capacity of more than 2.1 to use 'Advanced Format'.   Windows XP does not support this (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2510009).  See this explanatory article from HP: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02691731.pdf (especially on Windows install on an advanced Format a drive, but it has useful information and links).

However, some drive manufacturers provide solutions.  If you have a Western Digital drive, see http://www.wdc.com/global/products/features/?id=7&language=1
WD article says to use the alignment tool for "maximum performance", which suggests that the drive should be recognized, even if you have not yet used the tool, if something can happen.  I see at the bottom of this article a link to another article in the use of Advanced Format WD drives in USB speakers.  In this article, WD says, "WD does not support using all our utilities alignment Advanced Format drive on third party USB enclosures. ... Given that WD provides no support for the installation of our readers in pens 3rd party, you will need to contact the manufacturer of the attachment for any additional help, install the player. »

If the WD align tool does not help, or if you have another manufacturer drive, contact the drive manufacturer support.

Another possibility is that your external case does not support a 3 TB drive.   See this thread: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f16/hitachi-0f12450-hdst723030ala640-3tb-drive-not-recognized-587112.html

    Hi Paul,.

You don't say what model of laptop you have, but generally speaking if you are using Windows XP then you will use the standard Microsoft drivers for your scanner.

However, you can Toshiba drivers and utilities download from Toshiba web site by clicking on the Support section and downloads and selection of files to download. You will need to fill in the details of your laptop so that the list of appropriate driver (unless you have provided these details when you register).

  • Optical drive is not recognized in Windows 8.1 (x 64) or in the UEFI System Diagnostics.

    Description of the problem:

Optical drive is not recognized in Windows 8.1 (x 64) or in the UEFI System Diagnostics.

    Steps to recreate:

    UEFI:

    1. Start the PC in diagnosis system UEFI (F2 at the STATION)
    2. Pane controls
    3. Optical drive
    4. Sequential control
    5. Error: Optical drive not installed.

    8.1 Windows (x 64):

    1. Run Device Manager
    2. Error: No CD/DVD Drives section.
    3. Search for new hardware changes nothing.

    Relevant system specs:

Mobile: HP Pavilion 15-n023sa (construction of vanilla)

    Optical drive: HP DVDRAM gu70n

    Steps already taken to solve:

    • Replaced the DVD drive with one of the similar specs of HP Pavilion. The replaced gn70n perfectly in the other machine. No change on problem laptop. Conclusion: DVD player works, and there is no problems with Windows 8.1 (x 64).
    • Removed DVD player. Restarted the computer. Sign in to Windows. Stop. Replace the DVD drive. Start the laptop. This is trying to solve defects of material with the PnP devices; more help to solve any problems of intermittent loose connection. Conclusion: No change.
    • Ran, troubleshooting of hardware and devices, via the control panel. Problem found: material changes may not have been detected. Explore more options just takes you through http://social.answers.microsoft.com/search/en-us/?query=hardware+device, that it is a 404 error page. Conclusion: Help and Support Windows is sorely lacking. They show no more information than just that something was detected as incorrect.
    • Ran the Microsoft FixIt troubleshooting of optical disc and auto repairman. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/5/8/F586FB7C-78E0-40EB-AF41-4C925F803CAF/CDDVDWin8.meta.dia... The convenience store has reported that the device was not found. He recommended to remove all power cables, power off, and various other things which have no relevance for computer laptop troubleshooting of switching equipment. He said: If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer. Conclusion: Windows troubleshooting can not solve the problem.
    • Run Windows Update to ensure that all updates and definitions have been installed. Conclusion: Windows is perfectly up to date.
    • Run a complete Rootkit and malware using Sbybot S & D 2.3 heuristic analysis. as a signature database scan using Windows Defender. Conclusion: Laptop is clean of rootkits and malware, to the best of my knowledge.

    Notes:

The DVD player is NOT appear in Device Manager, OR in this PC.

The DVD drive is NOT detected by diagnostics system UEFI.

There is reference to the DVD in BIOS drive NUMBER , other than as an option of Setup, which is generic.

The DVD player itself, works and has been verified on a different machine.

The only possible conclusion is that the optical drive port mini-SATA on the motherboard is dead.

  • Hard drive is not recognized in the BIOS - Equium A60

Hi hope someone can help. I have a Toshiba Equium EA60-173 and the hard drive is not recognized in the BIOS. When I remove the hard drive and put it in another laptop it is detected fine. I also tried another hard drive in the Toshiba and that does not work either. So I suspect the IDE controller has disappeared, but can I do to confirm this? I wish there was an option in the BIOS to force detection. I updated the BIOS but still the same.

This laptop is only just out of warranty, so if it is the controller would I need to replace the motherboard? Are there other options at my disposal?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Neil,

Unless there is some physical\problem with the cable/connector hard drive, then it is most likely that you will have a new mainboard for your laptop. I suggest you to contact an authorized service partner and ask them to check your laptop and give you an estimate of the cost of the repair. Then you can try to shop for less expensive alternatives.

  • Solution: The USB floppy drive is not recognized during installation of XP of RAID

    Hello

This Solution is for notebooks Qosmio with RAID driver during (manual installation of windows)

I found the Solution to this problem,

[When you install Microsoft Windows XP by using a floppy drive USB on a player who]
requires a driver during the installation, the USB floppy drive is not recognized in all
installation. When Windows XP searches the driver of the second time, he will not be able to see
the floppy USB drive drive and prompts the user for the driver (RAID) again.
The installation will never reach this point. ]

    Solution:

This is a limitation of Microsoft, the Floppy Drive are do not appear in the file Windows 'txtsetup.sif.

Simply change the floppy drive in another brand and avoid Usb 2.0 external Usb floppy plus old 1 Try
Also note the back of drive sometimes they write (no bootable) avoid this also

  • Pavilion p6210t: CD/DVD HP Pavilion p6210t drive is not recognized after upgrade Windows 10

HP Pavilion p6210t DVD/CD drive is not recognized after the upgrade to Windows.  DVD/CD material is: LightScribe16XmaxDVD + / R/RWSuperMultidrv.  I can't find an updated driver for this device, download and install. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Thank you for your response.  I can't find somewhere - it now despite a lot of research - I read on a very simple solution to this problem which is (was) affecting hundreds of users HP.  In essence, the solution said that the DVD drive has in fact been recognized [as evidenced by his appearance in the BIOS] but has been "identified" and how to fix this problem was to go into the DEVICE MANAGER and delete the incorrect identification reference - then restart the computer and Windows 10 would correctly identify the DVD player and correctly in the DEVICE MANAGER list.  I decided to try this simple fix before one of the more complex solutions that were offered.  The simple solutioon worked!

    Hello

I plugged my WD HDD (model WD2500ME-01) to a Black MacBook and it was recognized as a 'Time Machine' drive.
Now I plug it to my PC (Windows XP Home Edition) and the drive is not recognized, no 'letter' is not assigned to the player. Drive HARD watch as "healthy (protection GPT Partition) under 'computer management' window and I can't assign a letter on the HARD disk."
I don't want to format the drive, I just need to save some files to it (a few concerts info).

    Hello

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers to check with the system manufacturer to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your if necessary.

  • External hard drive is not recognized

My external hard drive is not recognized by windows, the led lights up but no display on 'my computer '.

Try it on another computer, if it doesn't, it could be a bad cable or hard drive box. Use a different cable or an enclosure.

If it works on another computer, on your computer check the disk, if it is displayed in computer management. In Explorer, right click on "Computer", click 'manage '. Under computer management, storage, click on "disk management". If it is showing a right click on it, click on «Change drive letter and path...» ", click the"Edit"button and then assign a drive letter.

Or if the reader is displayed, you can check in the Device Manager. In the device under Universal Serial Bus controllers Manager looking for the drive generally a mass storage device, right-click on it, uninstall and then restart. If does not uninstall everything under USB controllers, then restart your computer.

Download XP_CD-DVD - Fix.zip and save this file on your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it, and double-click the file to extract the content. Find the EXE file that you extracted and double click it.  A confirmation dialog box appears when the script is done.  You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Works on XP and Vista. Good luck!
