Working Group stopped after the installation of the new wireless router
My working group stopped working after the installation of the new wireless router. Router was switched were to move from DSL to fiber optic.
I have a very simple home with two laptops working group, the two are connected with a wireless router. A PC is running XP with the updates and service packs; the other PC is Windows 7 Home premium. This working group was running without problems for a few years. The Working Group has been used to share files between two laptops. Internet access was through the DSL wireless router and print was with a wireless printer, without going through the working group.
I had my DSL set out to free fiber optic last week, which meant that a new wireless router has been installed by my local phone company. Internet works fine; wireless printer works. The working group no longer works. When I try to connect from XP to Win7 and I click on mode workgroup computers, I get this message:
WorkGroupName is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found.
I tried to create a new working group, the new name for the same workgroup on both machines, but this did not help. Working groups are supposed to be simple; This seems to be a problem on the new router - telco tech support says that nothing is stuck on the router. I don't believe them.
What version of XP you use (Home or Pro)?
Can you access the Win 7 a XP computer?
You have identical accounts, passwords on both computers?
If all that was done was to change routers without making any changes on the computers, the most likely cause of the problem is a third party (other than Windows) firewall on at least one of the computers. Being by default, a router automatically assigns IP addresses to computers on your local network. Different brands of routers, but use different address ranges. For example, Cisco/Linksys routers typically use the 192.168 form addresses. 1.1 with 192.168. 1. 254, while the D-Link routers typically use 192.168.1 to 192.168.0.0. 254. A firewall configured to allow only the first IP range blocks communication to the scope of the latter.
So... What is the name and version of your anti-virus program?
What other security software is installed? On every laptop computer, open a command prompt window
for XP: start > run > cmd > OK
for Win 7: type cmd.exe in the search box and press enter
In the black command prompt window, type the following command and press enter
ipconfigPlease provide the values for the following for the adapter wireless of each computer
IP (XP)
IPv4 address (Win 7)

Time for a new wireless router? Security no longer works
My router has acted lately. I did the Web page and two manual reset / original restore.
I works very well without any security. When I reset the password name & network security everything seemed normal.
It now displays the new network name but should not be the new password, it appears immediately as "invalid security phrase.
On the router to the wireless security, I have selected WEP, 128-bit, 26 hexagonal etc., entered my password, press on generate and then 'save settings '.
Everything seems fine, but it does not accept the new password. Again, this works fine without warranty, but I can't run like that.
Can anyone help?
Thank you!

Do I need a new wireless router?
Has been said by Virgin that although their modem accept 20 MB, my wireless router (a 4 years old Lynksis BEFW1154) won't let me get the faster speeds. As a "silver surfer", I could argue the point with their advisor, because honestly I don't know what he was doing on. What I know, is that I pay a monthly display for flow rate of 20 MB, and having control of internet speed, all I get is 3.3 MB download and 0.9 MB Upload. Do I need a new wireless router? Any constructive suggestions would be much appreciated
Thanks a lot for your answer. I'll go to local store and explain my problem and tell them your suggestion. I'm sure that they will be able to help. Very much appreciate your help.

-Did you change your computer, after which the question began?
-Check if you are connected to the network? The question seems more like a network connection problem. I would like you to do the following.
Method 1: run the Network Troubleshooter utility and see if the problem persists.http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/using-the-network-troubleshooter-in-Windows-7
Method 2: release and renew the IP (Internet Protocol) address and see if the problem persists.has. click Start. Type cmd in the search box and press ENTER.b. at the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:ipconfig/all (there is a space between ipconfig and /)The command ipconfig/all command displays for all your network adapters, TCP/IP in Windows settings. If your IP address of your Local network connection is 0.0.0.0 or 169.x.x.x (where x is a number any), then your computer is not getting an IP address from the router.
If this is the case, try this:· enough ipconfig at the command prompt and press ENTER· ipconfig / renew in the command prompt and press ENTERMethod 3:

Need help to connect the old Windows XP to new wireless router, please
Hello
I have an old desktop running Windows XP Edition family 2002 version, which has been connected to a Netgear WG311 802.11 wireless router g. I was unable to connect to other computers, so I replaced the Netgear with an E1200 Linksys wireless router. WaltThe problem is probably that the Linksys E1200 is a wireless-N Router and your former Office no doubt has a wireless adapter that is only capable of wireless-G (or perhaps Wireless G and B).
Are adapters wireless in your other computers wireless - n? If so, it perhaps is the reason why they could not connect to your old G of Netgear wireless router.
You can get a new wireless-N for the office adapter or configure the E1200 wireless g available.
