5660 envy: envy 5660 disable the wireless SSID

I have the printer connected via USB, do not have a Wi - Fi connection.  The printer always broadcasting a SSID, even though the wireless feature is set to OFF.  I looked on these forums and looked through the manual and nothing works to turn off the SSID of the printer braodcast.  How can I disable the SSID?

Hi @divot71,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that you want to disable the SSID wireless with your printer HP Envy 5660. I'm happy to help you!

If the wireless function is set to off, the only other function I can think. Is to disable direct wireless as well. According to this guide, printing with a Wi-Fi Direct, she says: most HP printers wireless released in late 2014 and later support Wi - Fi Direct. Printers compatible with touchscreen control panels have a Wi - Fi Direct icon (). If your printer control panel does not have the icon, go to the menu of the Network Configuration or the wireless settings and confirm if an item of menu Wi - Fi Direct is displayed.

I hope that solves your problem!

  • Disable the wireless on/off switch

    Hello

Anyone know if it is possible to turn off the power switch for the wireless adapter?

We are a school and we have 32 Tecra S1s using students. As I often get called because they cannot log on to the support person, when I'm there I found that the wireless has been turned off.

So if it is possible to force the wireless to stay lit regardless of the position of this switch, it would be extremely beneficial to us.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Mike

A product must be designed on the way to offer both options and each single user can make the decision to use mode ON or OFF. As you know, it is important to reduce the power consumption in battery mode.

As far as I know there are not any type of only ON switch and I can imagine just this notebook must be disassembled and connect directly to the motherboard. I recommend you to call Toshiba technicians in your country and explain the situation. I'm sure they can you give some advice or help you do what you want.

Otherwise you have to give a training all teachers to explain to children how to start with the WLAN use on laptops.

These steps and tell us where is the breaking point.

Check the Device Manager for the wireless card valid entry.

If there is no valid entry, remove any entry from fake and re - install the drivers for the wireless card.

Check network connections to make sure that you have a network icon/entry wireless connection, and that the properties of the icon (right-click on the icon) are correctly configured with the TCP/IPv4 protocol in the properties of network connections.

  • Satellite L600: How can I turn off the Wireless Communication switch?

Hello! Would be very grateful for any help... After struggling for 3 months that I finally registered here in the hope of getting help.

    I have a new Satellite L600 / Win7 Home Premium.
My question is that I don't know where the wireless switch is to turn off COMPLETELY wireless.

Whenever I start the wireless (orange) light turns on automatically.
I have to wait until finish and turn off manually by Fn + F8.

When I opened ConfigFree (or doctor of connectivity), the diagnosis on the left bottom says [STATUS"switch of Wireless Communication: WE]
This tells me that the main switch is somehow always THERE.

Twice I called Toshiba and they couldn't find it either.
They said that the new versions of the BIOS does not...? And for this model, there is no physical switch built on the PC itself.

I have looked everywhere and did the following:

    (1) disable the adapter in Device Manager.
    (2) in HWSetup, where there used to be an option to click on the switch wireless off, he's gone.
    (3) I went into the BIOS setup and could find nothing remotely related to without wireless/bluetooth to switch.

I wonder why there is a wireless laptop with light permanently? But if it is enabled, there must be a way to turn it off. Press Fn + F8 every time at startup is not a long-term solution because the risk is that I'll forget someday).

My last laptop was hacked until it's an absolute priority that I know how to disable all wireless functions. So even if I have to do through the commands, I'll try it. In addition, I do not know if anyone else experience the same thing with this model, or is it a default of my particular PC?

Any help or even experience will be much appreciated, thank you.

I disabled the card in the Device Manager.

When I opened ConfigFree, connectivity doctor tells me the Wireless Communication switch: WE

    > My question is that I cannot find where the wireless switch is to turn off COMPLETELY wireless.

There is no hardware switch that would allow to enable or disable the WiFi network.
WLan can be turned on and off using the FN + F8 key combination.

    > When I open ConfigFree (or doctor of connectivity), the diagnosis on the left bottom says STATUS\ ' Wireless Communication switch: on it tells me the main switch is somehow always WE.

What is the status of the WLAN if you check in network connections?
The WiFi network is always on?
If not then the WiFi connection turned off and I wouldn't be worried by the fact that ConfigFree says that it s THERE.

Of course, you can disable the wireless network adapter in Device Manager. Just mark the Wlan card under network adapters and turn off your device. But believe me; It s enough to do using FN + F8 ;)

  • Without sleep when the wireless adapter is enabled

    Hi all

I have the HP HDX 18 t, and I just noticed that when I active wireless adapter, my energy plan is defeated because the laptop will not go to sleep. When I disable the wireless network adapter, the laptop goes to sleep very well according to the energy saving plan. I looked at the settings of my wireless card, and they seem appropriate: the computer is allowed to switch off to save energy.

No idea how I can fix this problem? (The laptop has Windows Vista Home Premium, and I've updated with Service Pack 2).

    Thank you very much

    Linus Q.

    Hi all

Today the laptop goes to sleep like clockwork and I think it's because of some advanced settings I changed last night. I changed advanced settings for two network devices, the device Realtek PCIe GBE and the Intel Wifi Link 5100. A combination of these changes must have done the trick. Here is a summary of the changes:

(It worked with a scheme to save energy by which the screen turns off after 5 minutes; the hard drive try to extinguish in 7 minutes, and the computer asleep in 10 minutes).

Realtek device on the Advanced Settings tab:

Wake-on-Lan capabilities: None (thought I had previously tried without success)

Shutdown Wake-on-LAN: activated (I think it's the default setting, so it was probably not a change)

WiFi Link 5100 advanced device settings tab:

Roaming of aggression: 1. low (it was on 6. Above, but there is only one access point legitimate I can connect, so I should not be traveling as far as I KNOW)

Transmitting power: 2 medium-low (it was 5. Above, but there is no loss of performance at medium-low)

Well, I think that it's all real parameters that I've changed, and I was surprised to see the laptop to sleep as it should, even when I'm connected to the Internet. But I'm glad it seems to work now.

Thanks to Daniel and Bertbear for your willingness to offer suggestions. (My free upgrade to Windows 7 is already in the mail, but I can't even install it at this point).

    Thank you

    Linus

  • Wireless Internet takes awhile to connect after the sleep or Hibernate? Already changed the wireless power management settings

    Hello

I have a Dell XPS 17. I bought last week.

    My internet config:

Intel Centrino Wireless adapter N 1030.

I already changed the settings disable the wireless adapter power management "allow this computer to turn this device to save power". After looking at other threads I also did this for USB ports. Drivers have been updated to the last pilot intel: 14.3.0.0

Whenever I put my PC in sleep or hibernation from the recovery, it does not automatically connect to the internet, and when I select the wireless network, it takes a long time to connect, at least 2-3 minutes. Normally, it displays ' windows takes long time to connect.

The network is selected to connect automatically, but it isn't after the mode 'sleep'.

Everything works fine when I stopped and power on as usual. Just not in "standby mode"!

    Hi PMDAY2013,

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Perform a clean boot to see if there is a conflict of software like the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the link step 7 to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

Method 3: Follow the steps in the article.

  • Disable the touchscreen for TouchSmart HP ENVY 15-j173cl Notebook PC

    The laptop:

HP Envy TouchSmart 15 (15-j173cl) PC notebook

    Windows 8.1 Pro

    The problem:

I use an external monitor, so my laptop is usually closed.  Randomly, my touchscreen think something is in contact with her, which disrupts everything I do.  I would like to completely disable the touch screen, because I do not use it.

I thought that maybe the lock was not shut down properly, but the screen resolution changes when I close the laptop, so that it KNOWS that it is closed and switches to the right resolution for my external screen, but it IS NOT to disable the touch screen, and little land or something is in contact with it, changing where my mouse is pointed where I type, etc.

I tried to clean the screen and the keyboard with compressed air.

The problem occurs randomly; Sometimes, when I'm CAD for the day, sometimes after hours of work.

    Hello, @rockspeak

    Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see you want to disable the touch function in your display for portable computers. I will help you with that.

You can do this by going to Device Manager > click on the + or > by Human Interface Devices > right click on the touch screen to HID-compliant > choose disable. This will have disabled the touch capability.

I would like to know if it works for you.
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums.

I need help, disabling the touch screen on my HP Envy. I tried to get him here, but I found nothing. I'm not really sure how much more explicit I can get about what type it is. If you have any advice on how to understand this, that might be useful. Thank you.

For Windows 8 and 8.1 with a newer laptop, open Device Manager. The same procedure is likely to be quite similar for Windows 7.

Right click on the tactile HID-Compliant device and select properties to call the Properties window.

  • HP ENVY 17 G0U21AV - is there a way to disable the fingerprint reader?

    I use a HP ENVY 17 G0U21AV 8.1 Windows.

This model came with a fingerprint reader in the lower left corner of the computer. Although this seems to be a nice feature, it is not one that I plan on using (I use LastPass to my passwords). I keep my Palm on the scanner that will bring to the top of the screen for HP SimplePass accidentally part traffic. This can come from the most inopportune moments, and it can become quite annoying always trying consciously avoid the fingerprint reader.

Is it possible to disable the fingerprint reader?

    Thank you.

    @DSWJoshua,

Thanks for posting. You can disable the fingerprint reader. For completeness, I'll give you steps to disable the driver itself and the biometric support, so you should not worry about this later.

To disable the driver, go to control panel, then Device Manager. Expand biometric devices. Right-click on the sensor of validity and uninstall it.

To disable biometric support, go to the Control Panel, biometric devices then. Uncheck allow users to log on to Windows using their fingerprints, and then save it.
