  I have a laptop Satellite A30-303. Somehow, independent programs open in Windows XP (Home, Pro edition, tried both), computer laptop unexpectedly shutw down, stop immediately. No message from windows, no errors of any kind, nothing, just the way it went.

  It's very strange. I have read all of the instructions, did the bios update to 1.80 (dated Sep 15) and still the same thing.

  Fact checking for viruses, all firewalls security and it did not help at all.

  Anyone have any ideas?

  Please check that the machine not too much heat! The symptom you describe is exactly that of a machine overheating. Check if the fan is running continuously before stopping. Also check that there is no dust in the cooling of the machine module.

• Result at last, 303 1900 Wi Fi card

  I have recently been posting mail trying to find if I could install a Mini PCI for WiFi on my 303 1900. Some answers say yes others no. As my manual addendum showed a switch on the right side and a led on the front I contacted the Support from Toshiba, which gave me a part number and the phone (see previous email), I bought the card, the box included a manual and additional labels to stick on the bottom and the picture of how adapt etc.
  The pc had a bug of some dscription who had deleted my network configuration, after a recovery of the system of the PC booted up and the card presented themselves and that the router is set up, I was connected to it and the Internet, the result is that if you have the little switch on the right instead of USB extra, you have the later model which is WiFi ready.   The latest BIOS 1.4 - winner which is placed on the page of the Toshiba driver is good.
  I put t know why you said that this don't work on your Satellite 1410 but older BIOS versions of the BIOS are not available for download.
  I m not quite sure if an ASP technician could help you but it s worth a try to get in touch with one of the ASP and ask for the old BIOS.

  Well, I checked the manual the user and on the first pages you can find a few displayed records, they are compatible with the laptop:

  TOSHIBA SD-R2212
  Matsu * a UJDA740 *.
  TEAC DW-224TH *.
  (*: any letters or numbers)

  So if you are looking for a player with Google you should find a few online shops or you contact an authorized service provider to get a new drive.

  Sometimes, the display freezes on my Satellite S1900-303. The laptop always uses the original graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon M6, with driver version 6.13.10.6052 dated dated 22/03/2002.

  Eh, I've had this laptop for the year 2003 model and it was pretty good laptop.
  Currently, I have used original recovery image with the latest updates from Microsoft.

  Now you have SP3 and probably a lot of new software pre-installed on it. Who knows why this is happening there?
  When you say that the display freezes sometimes does that mean exactly? Does make some operations or what?

  It is not easy to provide support for this old piece of hardware.
  Latest driver? I don t think you find it.
  Update graphics card? Forget it. Laptop is not designed for these upgrades.

  The DVD/CD on my Satellite S1900-303 drive needs to be replaced (not surprising given the age of the laptop!) It was purchased in January 2003 and is still going strong

  Where to buy? For me, it's a question completely unnecessary because we don t know where do you live and if I find a drive to the Japan I m wondering if this info will help you.

  Use Google for your country, put the ODD model number and see if you can find a store online in your country where you can order.

  I would highly recommend you to check eBay. You will find many parts Toshiba and such ODD, you can get for less money. I mean why spend a lot of money for new ODD if you can use the one used.
  Satellite 1900 is very old model of laptop, and I think that you should not spend a lot of money.

  The DVD - ROM drive will recognize and play / install from a CD but not a DVD.

  How did you check if the device driver is up to date? There is no update driver for all CD/DVD players

  Normally, if CD works fine but no DVD, it appears to be a malfunction of the equipment. Before Exchange you it, try to clean the lens using a microfibre cloth.
  In addition, you need to test if you can boot from a bootable DVD to check if it s a software issue or not.

  As I wrote already in the worst case you need a new drive :(

• Satellite 1900-303: CD recording is not possible

  My 1900-303 doesn't let me save to CD. It seems to work then comes up with an error message asking me to '... ". change drive or firmware update... "I went to the Toshiba download pages and downloaded the firmware stuff and then extracted and downloaded (I think!), finish the book with a reboot. I always get the same message when I try to record on a CD.

  The simple driver update will not damage your laptop but the incorrect BIOS.
  Anyway, Sam is right. The S in the first step means satellite. This is why you must use drivers for 2410-303. These are the correct drivers and they should work on the laptop.
