8 GB DIMM modules for early 2008 Mac Pro

I see that OWC is now selling the 8 GB DIMMs for early 2008 Mac Pro (8-core, 3.2 GHz). This leads to the potential total RAM up to 64 GB.

Anyone has any experience of the use of these, or potential problems?

Thank you!

I would call OWC and ask them. I remember not only here posts on this topic.

However. I myself would buy a chance 2009-2012 in the place and level it. These Mac Pro are the most capable and reliable and 8 GB sticks are 1/3 of the cost of those of 2008.

  • PC2-5300 memory will work in my Early 2008 Mac Pro?

I picked up an Early 2008 Mac Pro to replace my machine from 2006 and I was wondering if I could use my 16 GB of memory in the new machine?

Near as I can tell, the only difference from PC2-6400 is speed.

    Thank you

According to MacTracker database all the Early 2008 Mac Pro using PC2-6400, and you cannot use slower RAM the RAM in the computer is designed to use. Sometimes faster RAM spec can clock on an old computer but the RAM slower than the technique almost never works.

the 2009 mac 4.1 pro can be upgraded to a number of current spare cards from Nvidia and AMD, but in many cases the cards require custom flashing of the Distributor and custom drivers. You need to buy a card with a distributor of mac because versions "Windows" of these cards will not work out of the box and OS X will not support without 3rd party drivers. This procedure is not recommended by apple that would rather you buy a new mac pro and again I want to say something for $5K, which offers the latest GPU is already 3 years old.

research on the Web "Mac Pro 4.1 GPU" for more details.

  • Lack of support for early 2009 Mac Pro

When Apple says that they won't support not early 2009 Mac Pro for Sierra, they mean that they will not correct a problem if one occurs, or do they mean that just cannot run on the computer at all?  I only ask because my Mac Pro is much more powerful than some new laptops that run the upgrade of the OS.

I upgraded my MP 2009 Sierra yesterday. First you need to update the firmware to that of a 5.1 MP.

Use these instructions to update the firmware. You need to download the installer

  • early 2008 mac pro running capitan

My hearts early 2008 pro mac will no longer responds and the fan speeds. It takes multiple attempts to hear the startup sound and then not in mode 'sleep', machine works very well.

"Sleep" mode is not automatic. I put on standby. Anyway, once invited to machine awake can show monitor 60 seconds up to end up alone as described above.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems, .bonitamacpro. I assume you did the usual stuff, zap pram, reset the SMU/PMC and all that. You can also check on the battery pram itself and perhaps the card video that maybe needing a good dusting out. I (we) don't have much to go outside of the info that you have given us here... If I remember correctly, press and hold the "D" key on startup starts the Apple Hardware test, which can be useful. You can try to start up the recovery partition (command and the keys R keys at startup), may be running disk utility, reinstall the operating system.  Etrecheck can be useful as well, but I have no idea how to do to get this going, but I'm sure that someone else doesn't. Perhaps it may be bad ram? Sorry, my "magical crystall ball" went dark...

  • early 2008 mac pro run a 2560 x 1440 screen

I have a Mac Pro (early 2008) with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB, 16 GB RAM, Yosemite 10.10.5 running. Can I use a screen of 2560 x 1440 with this graphics card?

MMMmmmaybe... Apparently, it has 2 DVI ports, so you will need a Dual Link DVI to get us to open. You know, of course, this video card is a little

  • an early 2008 mac mini and want to know what OSX iI can be upgraded to.

I have an early 2008 mac mini, model A1283 and the OS x 10.6.8.  Is there an OSX I can pass safely to this machine?

    Upgrade to El Capitan

You can pass the Lion El Capitan or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded for FREE from the Mac App Store.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

To upgrade to El Capitan, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1 iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later

2 MacBook (late 2008 or early 2009 or newer aluminium) - model identifier 5.1 or later

    3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

4 MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)- model identifier 2.1 or later

5 mac mini (early 2009 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

6 mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

7 Xserve (early 2009) - model identifier 3.1 or later version

To find the identifier of the model open system information in the Utilities folder. It is displayed in the Panel on the right.

    Upgrade to Lion

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install the Mavericks, it can still meet the specifications to install Lion.

You can buy Lion to the Apple store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus taxes.  It's a download. You will receive an email with a redemption code that you then use on the Mac App Store for download Lion. Save a copy of this installer to your download folder because Setup deletes itself at the end of the installation.

    Lion system requirements

1 mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

    or Xeon processor

    2. 2 GB of memory

    3 OS X 10.6.6 or later (10.6.8) recommended

    4. 7 GB of available space

    5. certain features require an Apple ID; conditions apply.

I suggest that stick you with Snow Leopard because the Lion is a bit a dog. If you really need to upgrade over Snow Leopard, then you need a new computer.

  • 10 Windows installed successfully on early 2009 Mac Pro Quad but no network detected

I installed Windows company 81 on my Mac Pro without problem, using the WiFi Edimax EW-7711MAC of OWX adapter, which went very well under 8.1.

I have upgraded to Windows 10 company, works very well, "sfc / scannow" gave rise to no error, but the card WiFi has only a beta driver 10 to win, and I can't detect all of the networks. The pilot has been out since August, seems if it was questions, he would have been fired and Edimax support did not have any major problem with the driver beta for me. I had to run commands for the visible card.

Not sure if this is a gap in the Bootcamp drivers as I lost it scrolling and keyboard Windows functions or the beta for the WiFi card driver is at fault.

Device Manager sees the adapter, shows in the adapters in the Panel, just no networks are detected.

Can what version of the drivers for Bootcamp I use with an Early 2009 Mac Pro Quad to work with Windows 10? I saw some "hacks" on the boards, especially for the Macbook Pro. Curious to know if anyone has found a combination of driver that works with this model or as.

Can you check if WiFi issues on Windows using boot camp 10 solves your problem of WiFi?

  • test hardware mid 2008 mac pro-

My mid summer 2008 mac pro came with Leopard installed - and I upgrade to Snow Leopard.

I know for sure that the Snow Leopard hardware test worked by rebooting with the button held down - D but somewhere in the updates of apples - it doesn't work anymore - help on the mac said "If your computer does not restart in Apple Hardware Test restart it using the DVD or USB that contains the Apple hardware test" no clue as to what they mean - what is the dvd provided with the mac - or a DVD that came with Snow Leopard?

Don't know why my mac has problems with reboots - but, I have a circa 2002 Studio Display, which has 2 usb ports.   I moved my keyboard aluminum to a port on the pro to a port on the display (another port is my Wacom pad - I prefer to use their pen, rarely use the mouse on the keyboard)

I stop after use that I use only one or two hours per day.    Has no up-to-date software because Apple has stopped selling on media - and has sort of missed the fact that sometimes people jump over a version simply because as its too much headache for update annually.

If you do not have the original installation diskettes including Apple Hardware test yo can download it here. Make sure that yo select your Mac model.

Wonder if anyone can help I have a 2008 Mac Pro I want to add additional memory.  The designated memory is,

    I found some designated memory

Both are latency case good speed and and adapt to anyone not know the difference.  And if there is a chance that it will work.  Their isn't a large part of Apple memory around this country.

    Concerning

Get only the memory of a place that specify that it will work with your model of Mac and will refund your money if it does not work. Macs are picky about the memory and just match record does not always work. Here are a few places:

  • 2008 mac Pro RAM

I have a 2008 Mac Pro 8 Core Xeon 2.8 GHz with 2 GB of ram. I want to upgrade the RAM and reflected on this but let me puzzled is certified Apple and ECC. Regular RAM DDR2 will work in the computer? And I can't just RAM with a heat sink or only a certified Apple one? What are my options and the best results?

You can use the non - ECC memory, but you cannot mix ECC and non ECC.

    You need a heat sink.

Macs are picky about the memory if you need to get the memory of a place that guarantees that they will work with your Mac. Just return form is not enough.
