80073AA2 Windows Vista error code update KB973917 and KB970430 Frustration!

I have a problem installing the updates on my 32-bit Windows Vista laptop. I have both updates KB973917 and KB970430 both indicate the error code 80073AA2 and two KB976325 and KB971737 updates showing the error code 800F0826.  The laptop has the message that it is install update 3 of 3, is 100% then says that the updates have not been configured correctly - he keeps trying to install updates.

I find it quite frustrating because this is the second time (the last was SP2) this year that updates have not properly configured and as a geek no I'm not able to settle this issue myself!  I got a very helpful guys at Microsoft call me before; However, if I can get some advice on how to fix myself I would be very grateful!

Thank you, Maggie Ross.

I had so many problems with Windows Vista Edition Home Premium 64 bit and now this.  I tried to install the software from AT & T and to keep these two errors.  I went to every forum, website, I find and have finally decided that I have really no idea how fix this on my own.  Many other users have almost the same problem.  I tried everything what they do with no luck. So far, I know now I "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them. . And I have no idea how to do to fix on my own.

I then found a site to tell someone else to use the "Event Viewer", I did this and the answer showed me 2 events in the event log, I tried the "journal of the events online Help" and answer has been "No response to this code" but thanks for recording it, so Microsoft knows what are the elements it can find remedies for the future for.

I found another person in the Vista Forum "BleepingComputer", (he had an error code of 1719 and said to reregister Windows Installer by using method 2, I went to this site and it struck me to death.  I have no intention (at least for myself) mess with my registry database.  Maybe if someone could guide me through it.  I had to do things with Vista I never thought that I would have and a generally unknown translates as I did.

I hope you can tell from this hopeless thread how I am, so if you can help me in any way, I would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help in advance.

SFC has NOT repaired all the corruption (and there was quite a bit - not as bad a I saw but a lot nonetheless).  It explains a lot about why you have problems as long as this corruption is everywhere in the room.  The only way to correct that corruption is an installation of repair/upgrade of the system with (if you can get your hands on a real Installation of Vista drive and this is the preferred option) or do a clean install - which is where we started (but at least you know now it is necessary and why).

I don't know what problems you have had, and which have been fixed since--but that undertake you to pretty much a clean slate and that there should be no problem to be addressed (other than the effort to restore the systems back as it was before the relocations (even the repair/upgrade system requires some effort)).  I can't imagine re-, you will encounter problems (but I do not know what they were or that ccaused them, or what you need to do to fix them is very difficult to answer this question accurately).  I can just say that all the Vista system files will be replaced by fresh copies and which solves generally most issues with the exception of a few problems of compativility with some older software, or maybe you need to update some driverss of the device (and perhaps a few other issues that are related but not caused by the Vista software).

Thanks for the comments: is apprecciated.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself. (No, Symantec Support never say this.) See if the following solves your problems:

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of the 2010 version of your Norton application, using your product ID & reboot: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

TIP: Do not activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8 test cycle.

NB: Your Norton application can disable Windows Defender by default.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow step 7 link to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.
