80242FFF with Windows XP update

Update an old PC... ran Windows Update to update to SP3.  Once it restarts, I again ran WU... 80 updates found.  13 installed, the others said failed.  I rebooted and tried again, but now all THE updates fail to download.  I was getting the error 0x8007000D code.  Ran a "fix it" to reset the Windows Update components... now get 0x80242FFF.

1 Windows Update convenience store made no difference, because he found nothing difficult.

2. start made no difference.

3. do not know how it really applied to the question, but it also did not help.

I did a system restore, reinstall the new software update, reapplied SP3, and then updated works great.

  • How to prevent automatic reboot with windows xp update

Whenever there is an update to windows xp there is an icon that appears in my task bar.  I can click on it and download it when it is more convenient.  Unfortunately if a period of passes in which I do not download and install it, it will be without my prompting.  Once there download the update that it invites you to recharge.  I can delay the restart while I'm in front of my computer.  If I walk it will reboot my computer.  I would like to be able to control when my computer is restarted so that I don't lose important information.  This could be on a browser, microsoft office, or another program.  How can I prevent updates of windows xp my computer hijacking and force a restart at an inopportune moment?

    Hello

    ·        What is the service pack installed on your computer?

Windows Update will remind you if you have to restart your PC to continue the installation of an update and you give the option to "reboot now" or will give you the option to postpone the restart. If you are away from your PC for a long period of time, you can see that it automatically restarts your PC. Windows does to make sure all the latest security and other updates are applied in a timely, to help keep your PC safer with little effort for you.

If you are a system administrator and you want to control restart behavior, you can use Group Policy to avoid any automatic restart every time the administrator is connected.

Until this month, I had NO problem to do a clean install with XP SP3, on many machines, and then success for updates and the updates view about 5-10 minutes. Now scans darn take hours and hours and STILL does not give me an updated list.

What did you bunch of bottom sorry * s to do the update of Windows/Microsoft for XP, quit working properly?

BTW, I was trying to install IE8 for XP for the last 40 minutes and the installation is just stuck on "Download updates" and not to go further.

What you idiots did, you did really good.

I guess MS has started the "Anti-XP" campaign at the beginning and a doing, now XP, a PITA!

    Hi James

What is your level of service pack? If you don't know, click Start, run and type "Winver" in the Run dialog box.

Windows Update no longer works if you do not have Windows XP SP3 installed. If the previous step, you have confirmed that you don't have XP SP3 installed, you must download and install XP SP3 from the link below.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=24

Note: You can safely ignore the warning text indicating that this package is not suitable for the it professional and network facilities.

Important: to avoid a scenario where your system enters a 'loop', due to the installation of XP SP3, you need to check and make sure that your processor type is not an AMD (HP) or non-Intel Processor. You must install the package below the link if yours is a processor not intel before installing XP SP3

  • Problems with Windows Vista update error code I get is Code: 80096001

    Hi gang,.

I need help I can get at this point. I am currently working on a machine to a customer who had the rootkit zero.access top. The machine works like a champ, now that it is all clean; but for some reason any Windows Vista refuses to update. Let me mention the operating system before proceeding. The operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. When I try to run Windows Update, the machine has a total of seven updates to install; This is especially important and option. In the important section, the machine is trying to install a security update and that is 9. In the optional section, the machine is trying to install the driver as updates: video, network, etc. The PC is already running Service Pack2. The error code I get is: 80096001. I tried every fix that Microsoft recommends, even the Microsoft Fix It tool. Nothing seems to work. I had a simular problem before in Windows XP. If my memory is good, I had to go to the entry in the registry of Windows Update and apply a DWORD here, or something; I don't remember exactly what I did. I can tell you that I checked the registry and there is literally no key to change in Windows Update. Any help or advice would be great, this question is about to drive me crazy.

    Thank you
