A 4 TB drive reformatted in an external case can be used as a hard drive internal?

I tried to fix a problem with an old post:

I think that the previous post was too long to be useful now, but the heart of the problem is that for unknown reasons, my Dell Studio XPS9100 refuses to play nice with 4 TB records.

I want to buy a desktop drive 4 TB WD BC and install it in an external enclosure, and then initialize GBT and reformat and repartition as two ~ 2 partitions.

Once I have two partitions of ~ 2 TB I want to draw from the external case and install it inside my Dell Studio XPS 9100 as a data reader.

Is there a reason that this workaround solution would not work?

Hi dg27,

I'm pretty sure that it will work as long the Intel RST is up-to-date.

Could someone please recommend some course HP laptop model that can be used the same hard drive as G62-355DX use?

Even the hard drive can not put it in the bag laptop, but work with the HARD drive interface.

Or is there any external HARD disk enclosure can be used to read the data hard disk, the data does not have compreesed.

    Thank you in advance.

Hello! You need a new PC Yep!
But there are other ways to do

You can buy a SATA USB adapter that will allow you to plug in the HARD drive on another PC and the take-off data

NOW YOU CAN ONLY SAVE DATA FROM THE DISK IF THE HARD DRIVE IS NOT DEAD

    Good luck!

  • Pavilion a6500f: can I use my old hard drive as a second drive to the new I install.

I have a Pavilion a6500f I can access is no longer as he continues to tell me there are registry errors.  My recovery disk (I got a) or do a hard reset or else he will start.  It came with a window that says recovery system or start Windows normally.  I get a new hard drive to it and have a whole new Windows 7 installed.  The thing is that I don't want to lose all my stuff on the old hard drive.  So my question is can I install the OLD hard drive as a second drive to the new?  If I can then I can just copy all the files from the old drive to the new and use the old as a memory drive.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    The simple answer is Yes.

    (1) I would like to replace the hard drive with the same drive size or larger. But does not exceed 2 T.

    (2) I hope you made the original recovery DVD set the original recovery firstly, DVD media DVD + R try as these will save you having to create a driver disk.  If you really have to buy a complete set of recovery, get it here. It will have all the necessary drivers.  Only $27.00

    (3) I copy the files and destroy the old disk. Its usefulness is damaged since 2008.

  • Satellite P200-13Z - upgrade the hard drive - can I use SATA II hard drives?

I have a Satellite P200-13Z with simple standard Fujitsu 120 GB SATA hard drive. I want to change this to a RPM SATA II 250 GB Western Digital 7200 RPM drive. This interface SATA laptop does support SATA II? Thank you very much!

Not your portable computer does not support SATA II.

However, you can buy the SATA II hard drive and put it in your laptop. Only way to get it going is to restrict the new speed of SATA HDD, I accelerate. To do this is to introduce a jumper on the drive to restrict it to SATA I speeds up. Once it's done put in your laptop and viola, it works.

Good luck, but I would like to get a toshiba technician to install it if its under warranty. It's for your own good, so you don't turn your laptop into a boat anchor.

  • Equium A110-233: upgrade HDD - can I use 250 GB HARD drive?

    Hi all

I would like to upgrade my hard drive (40 GB now). What is the maximum capacity of HD, that supports my Toshiba? Can I put still 250GB?

Another question is, can I buy for example external USB 2.5 "hard drive and swap the drive of my laptop with it, I mean put one of the USB box inside my Toshiba and Toshiba original to USB enclosure?

    If it works?

    Hello

Unfortunately, there is no public document on upgrading the HARD disk and you will be very happy if someone can give you good info. I must say that I agree with GhostUK and I think that 120 GB should be enough and this HARD drive will be recognized correctly.

In the end, do not you extreme upgrade. ;)

Of course you can do it.

  • Satellite A200-1 s 5 - can I use a second HARD drive and RAID?

    Hi all

Toshiba Satellite A200-1 s 5 is eligible to add a second hard drive? It has RAID controller as much I know - it might help?

    Thank you
    Denis

If you have a SATA connector in the second HARD drive Bay, you can use a second HDD. Check it!
Then you can buy each disc HARD what you want with SATA port.

The Satellite A200 doesn't have a RAID controller.

    Hello!

Is it possible to change my 120 GB drive hard wit 1 TB HITACHI SATA III hard drive on my Toshiba L40?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to find the official statement from Toshiba on this subject but, well I know, you can use SATA III on this old machine.

I put t know what is the reason to use this HARD drive. You cannot use your old laptop with normal HARD drive with, say s, 300 Go?

  • Can I use a faster HARD drive on my Satellite P10?

    Hello

Have a Satellite P10 can replace 4200 drive with 5400 speed without fear more of heating or other problems?

    Hello

Today, I had a similar ad: D, so I can really answer you: Yes because there is no huge difference if you use a player of 4200, 5400 or 7200 RPM.

The heat is not SO significantly that the machine could be damaged. Don t worry and just install the drive you want to in your machine.
BTW. : Make sure that the drive is compatible with your machine regarinding the chipset and so on. Sometimes there are readers who don t work generally well with some machines toshiba like seagate or western digital, but not all and not every machine ;)

  • Can I use my old hard drive?

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 530 last October. To cut a long story short Dell made a mistake with the order and just sent me a replacement system. I had to return the old, but let me keep the hard drive. If I buy an enclsoure I'll be able to use this hard drive on my new Inspiron 530. I use Vista Premium the new hard drive is 250 GB as opposed to the former, which is 180 GB, but the operating system is exactly the same.

  • Can I install a new HARD drive and use an old backup

Just, I got my new Dell's HARD drive and need to install it in my Dim 9200. Can I use the old hard drive as a backup drive or secondary without deleting anything or reformatting? I have too many things on the old drive and am not crazy about cloning, I prefer to do a clean install of XP and be able to do things more when I feel the need. Is this possible or am I dreaming.

Has never done this before so I need help. Thank you.

After installing the new drive hard SATA and windows installation, etc. and when it works to your satisfaction, put the 'old' drive as the secondary, transfer all the files and folders you need in the new C: / volume, using the option "send to."  Providing the old hard drive has no problems, then the format and partition the drive for additional storage.

Note. Only files and folders can be transferred, all programs and applications must be reinstalled from their records, or downloaded from the site of the publishers.

  • Can I use my hard drive as slave on my laptop?

My Dell Dimension 9100 does not work and I would try to run the hard drive as slave on my PC toshiba laptop. Is it possible or it would have to do on another office?

    Thank you
    Danny

    Hey Danny,

    ·         What exactly is the problem you are having with the Dell computer?

Most laptops will not accept that the two internal hard drives.

You will need to check with the manufacturer of laptop for more information on the connection of two hard drives to your particular model.

You can also use a USB hard drive which you can then use to retrieve the data on your hard drive to the laptop via the USB port.

  • Can I use time capsule as external hard drive?

Can I use time capsule as external hard drive so that I can access a file or a specific folder by searching for its name?

A TC is now and for always player network... no external. So there are limits to its use.

If you are multitasking your TC with Time Machine and then using a DMG file as a virtual drive is better than directly copy files... However sharing becomes impossible. One person at a time can open the DMG.

    See pondini. T3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html

Old but still interesting to read.

You can certainly create a folder on the TC and copy your files on it, and then perform a search. Research is slow on wireless is so the speed of transfer of large files. With the help of ethernet is certainly encouraged to desktop computers.

Sharing folders on the TC is also now more difficult with increasing security at El Capo and OS later. You do not create on the computer records are not available. And even the ones you create can occasionally and autonomous change permissions (since the TC controls drive not the computer), you lock your own files on... I answer these questions once a week.

Not all software on Mac supports using network drives. The most difficult is photos that can corrupt the library due to disconnections... which are the most common wireless. Be warned backups are important and not easy to do because of the slowness of the USB port on the TC and you end up really need to another location on the network for backup on.

Generally, I advise the people not not to use the TC for direct files... That is to say, if you edit a document, make sure that it is on a local drive... When you have finished the document, you can copy it to the network drive and delete the local version. Easy for... not so easy documents for photos with major libraries.

A TC cannot save itself and Time Machine backup impossible network drives... This means that no backup will be your files in the TC, unless you take the initiative and do it.

  • Can I use a time capsule airport as my external hard drive?

I have all the products in my house, 5 iPhones apple, 2 MacBooks, an iPad and an apple tv Setup.

1 first question is the will of the time capsule (I'm looking at the version of 3 TB) Act as my external hard drive?

2.second the capsule is essentially like a wireless router? If so,is the wifi for your apple products much better? If anyone could break it down into secular terms and highlight some of the advantages and disadvantages , I'd greatly appreciate it.

(If your wondering I use my Macbook to store a LOT of music, photos, and surf the internet).

Purchase of a disk external drive for my Macbook Pro is on the top of my to do list, I currently don't have 15 GB of free storage. I know that's not enough space for the computer to function properly. I definitely don't want what I just bought in March. Im trying to learn more about this kind of thing would have made very different when buying my Macbook if I could go back to March.I would be easily paid for the 256 GB of flash storage and would have probably just waited to buy it at all, until the so-called new macbook arrives soon.

Once again thank you to all those who can help you!

    Mr.705

1 first question is the will of the time capsule (I'm looking at the version of 3 TB) Act as my external hard drive?

Although the Capsule is primarily designed to be used in conjunction with Time Machine for backups, it can be used as a network drive for file storage.

2.second the capsule is essentially like a wireless router?

He does. In simple terms, you can think of the time Capsule as a wireless router with an Ethernet switch and HDD.

If so,is the wifi for your apple products much better?

Not really. Your Apple products are designed to work with routers wireless of any manufacturer, not only those provided by Apple. However, Apple routers are simple to implement and the application to administer is available on both the Mac and iOS devices. There is a version that works on Windows PCs, but is currently outdated and does not support to administer the current base station 802.11ac airport.

  • Where to keep the drive internal or external libraries?

Question #1. I'm an old school and used to keep the media on an external drive and internal SSD flash disk application. (FCP7) I was thought to keep them separate for optimal performance. Now, I hear very often to keep the libraries on SSD internal flash drive. Why? First of all I can't consolidate as images can fill the space.

Question #2. I am using a Seagate FW 800 as external, is replacement with USB 3.0 would improve performance?

Question #3. I have many USB 3.0 devices. I have to constantly to move as my iMac does not provide sufficient USB3.0 outs. I read that USB powered ports creates problems.

    Thank you.

P.S. One of the 3rd party plugins companies support highly advisable to keep the libraries on a flash SSD drive internal

    1. it may be a valid option to store the library on an SSD - especially if you travel and work on a laptop but I'm not hearing, saying that it is the best practice.  And you're right that media can fill disk quickly enough. What developer recommends it?

    2. Yes.  I guess that your connection to the FW drive is via an adapter Thunderbolt. So you should be really better off choosing a Thunderbolt drive.

    3. possibly. Maybe someone else will be chime.
