Cannot read and write CD/DVD on Satellite Pro L40 - 17F
I have problems with my laptop (model: Satellite Pro L40 - 17F Cel - M 540 1.83/1GB/120GB 15.4).
I have problems with the dvd player. When I got the laptop I managed to install a few things but now - on a two weeks later, I can't read or write CDs or DVDs.I checked many solutions to fix but does not work. I uninstalled the driver and restarted my computer and it reinstalled the same as that which does not once again.
Please help me!
Hi mate,
may I ask what fire you´ve applications installed on your machine? I ask for the following reason:
Several installed burning applications may interfere each other, so could not stop the drive works properly.
Please, try the following:
Find somewhere a linux cd or something that you can start from, and then try to start and when the disc turns and starts him CD then you know that your problem is not hardware partners, it s more a problem located somewhere in your Windows operating system. If the player wouldn even turn or start the inserted media then you know that the reader has some hardware malfunction and must be replaced.
I guess you still have a warranty on your machine, if yes, then contact the nearest authorized service provider in your country and tell them your problem.
They are able to help you and solve this problem.Welcome them

Error installing service pack 2 unable to read or write in the database
I had to reformat my computer and when you do updates, I can't upgrade to windows service pack 2. The error message says "Service Pack 2 Installation Error-failed to read or write to the database." I tried the solution that I found that told me to stop the cryptographic services, go to the CatRoot32 file and remove the Edbxxxxx.log file but when I open the file there is no log file for me to remove it. I reformatted before and never had this problem. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Your CD or DVD drive cannot read or write media
I did not burn any CD or DVD on my desktop in a few months. Now when I try, my program writing, Roxio Easy Media Creator 9.0, do note "no drive detected". Cleary Device Manager shows the two CD/RW (I have two installed) present and activated without obvious problems. I reinstalled Roxio nothing helps, uninstalled both drives and started and not reinstalled - no help. Fix - it for MS recognizes readers while noting that BOTH are not capable of writng and install a writing program - which is already installed.
Any suggestions? I am running WXP Professional Service Pack 3

Qosmio F - cannot read or write DVDs
Hello!
my laptop read CD bun does not read the DVD.
what the problem?Hi bobyradulescu,
What laptop Qosmio F you have exactly? Is it equipped DVD player or not there only CD player?
If you have a DVD player, maybe it s dust on the lens of DVD. You must use a microfibre cloth to clean the lens.
Also try to delete upper and lower filters in the registry:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314060 -
Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!
Ideas:
- You have problems with programs
- Error messages
- Recent changes to your computer
- What you have already tried to solve the problem
Hi Rockeye55,
If I understand well you are unable to read CDs\DVDs on your windows vista computer, and you have already tried to remove the upper and lower filter to correct this problem, correct if I understood you.
I would like to clarify some things to refine the question
(a) this happens with all CD and DVD or just the Office CD?
(b) don't you recall making any changes to the computer before this happened?
(c) what happens when you try to remove the filters? You get the error message?
When a device is not functioning, Device Manager also typically displays an error message with an error code that comes with it. First, search for errors in the Manager of devices to do this, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Search for any displayed error message
1. open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. in Device Manager, look for the ligthscribe ROM drives, and then double-click the device name.
3. If an error code has been generated, the code appears in the status area of the device under the general tab
Step 2: You can try again to remove the upper filter and lower, just run the fixit available in the link below

ATAPI DVD A DH16AYH ATA Device read DVD but not CD
Engraver of CD/DVD in Compaq Presario 5010NX w / VistaBasic read any DVD but has problems with CD if I insert a music CD, sometimes it will open right and I can play music. Most of the time he just tells me to "insert a disc", usually open the status bar, but not always. If I close the drawer [or eject and close the tray] from 3 to 15 times, he finally opens the CD. Generally. Sometimes I drop and open it on my old computer Millennium, [which never fails to open the CD]. I bought a cleaning disc, but it still happens. Also, it stopped opening the tray with the manual key (1,200 works tent) and will always open with 'Eject' of the computer, but only with DVD and sometimes will open with the "eject" computer with the CD never if it is empty, so I always keep a known disc "opener" in the status bar. (if I forgot, I use a paper clip)
I did an online search of the Device Manager for a driver update and he told me that the best software is already installed. I just need a new burner? Why is - that it will work with DVD CD not? driving me crazy. Thank you ps can not find a burner mfgr. says simply "drive SuperMulti DVD with Lightscribe" - pps I tried uninstalling the Device Manager, and then restart the computer - no change. Haven't tried the support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems diagnostic program no solution I came across a post from someone else who had the same problem [former position & 'uninstall & reboot' was the only suggestion on this one.] I can't believe that it could be physical burner... why he wouldn't hesitate to read the DVD if it was a physical problem? Help?

Readers to use and this intermittent problem can be caused by wear.
You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
correctly.Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner might help.
Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always problematic.
CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the edge outside these discs
tolerances. They may be delivered, but it is generally more economical to replace the disk.Several good info here:

Could not read or write DVD-RAM
Even if my material indicates that he can read and write DVD-RAM, all of a sudden I can't recognize discs dvd - ram, that I stored things on front. I followed one of the forums and has released Service Pack 2 and that worked for a while and then stopped working again after a few updates have been installed. Hello
Don't forget to check the diagnosis with Dell Support, their documentation online, and ask for their
Forums about known problems. Dell has a few good methods of troubleshooting on their site.Dell support

down, jump, nothing, until the issue is resolved or these methods have been exhausted.

After the foregoing:
References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.
Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD

do it right.Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
