A few questions on password setting in BIOS HARD drive

In the BIOS, theres a option to set passwords on hard drives

Has anyone used this?

How difficult is this? That you must enter a password each time you access the hard drive?

Please explain

If you use your laptop for private only and if there is no risk to you that someone else may have access to your data I put t recommend that you set the HARD drive password.

It is very nice and good feature if you have sensitive data stored on your HARD drive and use your laptop in the company or take with you.

All other information, you can pick up in the document of Toshiba.

  • Satellite L300-1bw - Question on the removal of the HARD drive password

Hi, I own a L300-1bw, is seriously damaged (I'm going to scrap it) I had a HARD drive password to set.

Now, a friend has a C660 - 26G, which I hope to use to remove the password (which obviously I know).

Now, I plan to install in the C660 and go into the Bios to remove my HDD password, I will then put it it an external USB caddy.

Does anyone know if this is likely to work.

    * Just to make it clear, it's my hard drive and I know that the password.*

    Hello

I read in this thread that someone tried to remove the HARD drive password using a laptop from another manufacturer, and it did not work. But he managed to remove the HARD drive password using a Toshiba laptop.

Usually, the HARD drive password is stored and encrypted on the HARD drive therefore, theoretically, that it should be possible to delete a password KNOWN to the HARD drive using the C660.

So I would simply test it

I watched an attempt all suggestions re. This and cannot locate my favorites and passwords on the old hard drive.
Hard drive is still connected to my computer, even if the PC had a mother brd, the CPU and the RAM upgrade: because of the upgrade failed to load window, if the Windows file is always available. New HARD drive with windows installed, install again. 11.0 ff. The following search suggestions, I find the new profile, but not that of the old drive. AppData is a hidden file, you need to enable hidden files and folders may be to find. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-see-hidden-files-in-windows/.

  • Password protect an external hard drive connected to Time Capsule

I have a WD passport external hard drive connected to my time capsule, so my wife and I can easily share files. I have the external hard drive connected through the locked time capsules WiFi network so someone in the House can not access however if they walked the time capsule and not plugged in the external hard drive they could walk away with it. When I try to password protect external hard drive then time capsule may not recognise, and so I can't use it as an external hard drive that is shared. No one knows how, to password protect the external hard drive connected to the time capsule as if someone physically stole the external hard drive it would be locked, but have yet still recognizable by Time Capsule when I plugged?

    Hope that makes sense.

The only way to do is to encrypt the files on the computer.

And you both use the same password. Unfortunately, this probably means that you can not share files directly... The TC is not a SIN... never, it was designed for this purpose so there no controls to help admin file sharing.

If you create a DMG file on WD drive that encrypt you and you can copy files to and from... but only one at a time.

Another method would be to use a specific software... Watch chronosync.

    http://www.econtechnologies.com/Chronosync/guide-sync-with-disk-image.html

I don't him have not run in this configuration... so, you have to experiment if it manages what you want.

I think that there will always be limitations on concurrent access from multiple computers.

  • How to reset the password forgotten on external HARD drive

    Hello

I forgot the password of my external hard drive.
    How can I reset this?

It has all my photos out there I want to come back.

The external HARD drive comes with software that the password. Have you used this software?

I m not very well what HARD drive you have exactly, but in the case of the password disk HARD unknown could be deleted, so I guess that by using such software.

But I'm afraid, this is not possible and if yes, then secure files could serve more than m.

I say it in a different way: password protection would be useless if you can remove any unknown or forgotten password. Don't you think?

What to do if you forget your Windows password

If you have forgotten your Windows password and you are on a domain, you must contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you are not on a domain, you can reset your password by using a reset disk of password or by using an administrator account. For more information, see create a password reset disk or reset your Windows password.

If you forget the administrator password, and you do not have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you will not be able to reset the password. If there is no other user account on the computer, you will not be able to connect to Windows and you will need to re - install Windows.

    Reset password

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it using a disc to reset password for your user account (or the password reset information stored on a USB flash drive). If you don't have a password reset disk, you'll need to get someone with an administrator account on the computer to reset your password for you.

    Note

If an administrator resets your password, you may lose access to some of your files. For more information, see What are the risks of resetting a password?

    1. If you enter the wrong password when you attempt to log on, Windows displays a message that the password is incorrect. Click OK to close the message.

    2. Click Reset password, and then insert your password reset disk or USB key.

    3. Follow the steps in the password reset Wizard to create a new password.

    4. Login with the new password. If you forget your password again, you can use the same password reset disk. You don't need to make a new.

To learn how to change your password, see change your Windows password. For more information about storing password reset information, see create a password reset disk.

  • How to set up a hard drive as a drive 8700 XPS data?

    First...
I have an a 34YP322 XPS 8700 (non-SE). I've added a Crucial M550 256 GB mSATA ssd and deleted the original 1 to Seagate hdd for guard and replaced with a Seagate 1 TB clean hdd.
8.1 Windows Home Premium and Bitdefender internet security, 2015 are installed on the mSATA ssd now and after several reboots I have found no problems and the speed is impressive and the fastest boot I've ever seen.
I want to make the hard drive, a data reader and have no data on the ssd. How can I make sure that all data (files, documents, saved, photos, music and videos, etc.) for all users go to the data reader.
Some say that you can move the user hard disk of data files and which solves the problem, but the process make it seem very challenging and confusing.
Others say that does not move the files to the user windows will not allow that and it'll cause a lot of problems. I think that this should be done before installing the programs I need.
What is the best way to achieve these objectives?

    Second...
I assure you that none of my programs or data on any of my computers (all now running 8.1) goes to heaven reader automatically or otherwise.
How can I do this and how to check to make sure the sky player is empty?

    Third...
Once I have everything installed and working properly for a few days, I would install the original hard drive as E and use it for backup. Or should I keep this is for warranty issues?

I have only one user on the PC with Win 8.1, so I can't comment on multiple users. But I followed the instructions at this link to leave the SSD for 1 t HARD drive.

Open This PC and double-click your hard drive (D: on this PC). Create a folder for each of the types of files you want to store on the HARD drive. I created D:\Documents, D:\Pictures, D:\Downloads, etc.

Then click on C:\ (SSD) icon in this PC. On the left you should see a list of the various files that you want to move to the HARD disk. For example, click on Documents and select Properties. Click the location tab, and then click move.

In the box that opens, double-click on This PC , and then click the icon of your disk (D :). When that opens, select the corresponding folder (for example, D:\Documents) and click Select folder. Confirm the move on the next screen and the contents of this folder should all move on the HARD drive. And the next time that you save a .doc, it should automatically go to the folder on D:

Here's what it looked like when I moved the Documents of c: to D:\Documents (after you have created the folder on D :).

    http://www.edbpriser.dk/Listprices.asp?ID=139375

Hope someone can understand my question and help me...

    Hello

As far as I know, this unit was delivered with a 30 GB HARD drive.
In my opinion you unity might work with a 40 GB 60GB but I n t think that the BIOS recognizes a 100 GB HARD drive.
I think that it of not possible to use a 100 GB on this unit.

HARD drive merchants offer a BIOS change. After this change, it should be possible to use a bigger HDD. But these procedures are not supported by Toshiba and it is possible that you will lose coverage.

  • BIOS, hard drive or software problem?

Hello world. I was pleasantly surprised to find these forums here, because do I STILL need help!

I have a HP Pavilion dv6675us (dv6500 series) running 64-bit Vista Ultimate. It's a little older than a year. Yesterday, after the installation of security updates for multiple applications (such as recommended by Secunia) and cripple the system, I started from a BootIt NG CD to see if I could resize my partitions, and he told me that all my partitions had not been formatted or was corrupted. Then I tried to boot from the hard drive, and my laptop crashed with a BSOD (for the umpteenth time). As usual, the message flashes by too fast to read, but it was something about an installed device is only not available (similar to the message that I saw every time previous). I'm just trying to get my system to its previous state after the last crash - and was almost there. :-(

I have a Vista Ultimate install DVD, so I then ran Setup and past in repair mode to see if I could repair of BONE problems, and told me that the installer could not find an OS - or even a hard drive! He told me to insert a CD with the hard disk drivers, which of course I did not. The next thing I tried was to restart and check the BIOS to see if the hard drive has been properly registered. I have a Phoenix BIOS, Version F.51. All the BIOS configuration utility showed me, it was information system, with no information of the disc without user settings and hard. (There was a journal of diagnosis which could be clicked on, but the arrow keys did nothing).

I have a complete picture that I backed up the night before last, but at this point, I don't know what good that he would do to restore, or even if I could. This is a BIOS problem? What would have made him? Is it possible that the battery is dead?

I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable PC guy, but I'm lost here. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance...

If the BIOS and the Vista recovery program are both show no hard drive present I suspect that your hard drive is crashed. The only other possibility is that you somehow corrupted the table to partition so that it is just not be recognized, although this should not affect if the BIOS sees a current hard drive. I remove the machine and use a SATA to usb adapter and see if he goes and stands by another computer. You can also try dban and see if you can do a full zero fill (low-level format). More recent versions of dban will detect and work with SATA drives. The .iso to make a bootable dban cd version. Good thing you made an image before it all happened.

  • A few questions on the Tecra M7: BIOS, memory, drivers

    1. How will I know how my 1 GB of RAM is set to the device: 2 * 512 or 1 * 1 GB? I want to know that for a possible update.
    2. How can I access BIOS?
    3. I want to upgrade to Windows Vista, and I ask the necessary information on the Web site specified in my documentation. Yet, no sign of them. Other users of Tecra M7 have some sort of experience with this?

    Hello

I m not a Tecra m7 owner but I would like to clear some things:

(1.) I recommend using the diagnostic application of 3rd party like Everest Home edition to see what has been installed or not ;)
(2.) to access the BIOS, please try the ESC button. It s a BIOS Toshiba and then ESC and then F1 should work.
(3.) I don't recommend upgrading the operating system to Vista right now if you want to use the features of all laptop. Why? Its simply-> there are no drivers for Vista. We will have to wait

It is advertised as having 128 GB SSD, but according to the PC of the information there are 101 on the C drive and 3.99 GB on the D drive. This only adds to 104,99 GB. Is someone can you please tell me where are the remaining 23 GB?

Just to clarify, Go 104.99 is no space AVAILABLE, it's total capacity. The available space is only 67GB, which is not much at all I installed practically anything outside of a few documents.

In some versions of Windows 7, there is a feature called bit-locker to go you could do a right-click on the driver and to quantify.
