a hp940 ink spread its content after installation, is repairable printer?

After you have installed a new cartridge HP940XL Magenta on a HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless (A909g), all the contents of the cartridge escaped in the base of the printer.  There is no apparent cracks in the cartridge and the point of connection seems ok.  The vanishing point may be behind the point of connection (maybe a tube?)  Is the printer repairable?  If so, how?

Unfortunately, I was unable to find a solution.  I'm not technically competent to disassemble the block behind the ink cartridges and go looking for the problem.  I suspect that a small tube that runs to the printhead release taken.  I found that Staples ran a program of exchanges of the printer ($50.00).  They also had the 8600 for sale.  My solution was to replace.
