a newer version will replace the operating system if defective or damaged

Hi I have a dell laptop, for 4 years, recently he would have even started, took to a computer guy? They said it was riddled with viruses and it could not start (too to cut a long story short I paid them $180) they had fine, deleted the virus to a point... just want to know if I buy a newer OS will this substitute any error with the operation in the previous version of windows and flaws? Thank you

John

Windows 7 requires a "Custom install / Clean, then Yes, Windows 7 installation will remove your hard drive with the exception of a Windows.old folder XP.» Before you attempt to upgrade, you should check if your computer can run Windows 7, but download the compatibility checker.

If none of the problems you encounter are material related to a new installation cannot fix this.

Have you check the web site of the manufacturer of your computer for Windows XP device drivers updated.

Access the Dell support web site and search for Windows XP drivers for your specific model number.
Using your Dell's Service tag number is the fastest way to get the correct drivers.
http://support.Dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=Gen

If there is then Windows XP Download drivers to a folder on your hard drive and install all of them.
beginning with the card mother/chipset drivers, SATA, Firewire (1394), LAN, Audio, etc, and so on.

Updates BIOS (optional, only if necessary upgrade):
You should check to see if there was one, or sometimes several updates BIOS for the motherboard.
Read (if provided) which solves the update. Sometimes a newer BIOS update will fix the problem.
Read the instructions on how to your BIOS update/flash with a lot of attention and be of more
you understand the process.
Note: Do not forget that there is a risk of a bad flash/update occurs which can make your system unbootable.

-------------------------------------- The Windows.old folder --------------------------------------------

The Windows.old folder has two objectives:
(1) can be used to uninstall Windows 7 and return your PC to the previous version of Windows.
(2) contains a backup of all your files of data, documents, photos, Etc. from the previous version of Windows.

If you don't need either of these two options can delete the Windows.old folder.

Note: Option to change Windows Explorer to see the Windows.old folder:
Click on start and enter in the box "Search": "hidden" (without the quotes)
Click on the "Show the hidden files and folders" option at the top of the list.
In the "Folder Options" window
Click the 'view' if it is not already selected.
In the list "Advanced settings" locate "hidden files and folders".

Pavilion dv7-4285.  I replace a hard disk totally dead! How can I get (free, cheap oe) replacement for operating system. I did not receive the disks of software of the retailer.

    Hello

    There are two options available.

    1. you can order a set of replacement recovery disks using the link below - it will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).  They will also recreate all of the original scores, including the recovery Partition.

    Order HP recovery disks.

2 another option that you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the Disk Image correct ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn offerings) to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write that an ISO on a disc is here.  The source of the Windows Image is Digital River.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1.

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

Hi I want to completely erase the HARD drive and replace the operating system.

Windows 8.1 is better than 8 buggy, horrible but if I'm tired and want to go back to windows 7, where it does not crash and is just so much more stable.

I have a HP Envy 700-230ea. It will not recognize a device to boot to other operating systems, so I can't wipe it off and replace it becomes prety frustrating so why I am here now.

I also noticed that the bios is pretty much non-existent saddens me also!

I spent £900 on a computer I should at least be able to put the operating system what ever I like about it.

    Please can you help.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

To perform the boot from your Windows 7 installation disc, you will need to boot into the Bios Menu, and then disable Secure Boot and allow material - see the document at the link below.

Additional drivers for Windows 7 64-bit is on the following link.

Note:  Looking at the specs of your PC, it is listed as coming with Windows 8.1 if the HARD drive will have a Partition Table GUID - assuming you are going to install a 64 bit version of Windows 7, just choose the CDROM (uefi) option from the Boot Manager (tap away at f9 as you turn the power on) to start the installation.

  • How can I put in a new hard drive to replace the main HD that crashed and that contains the operating system

My HD C: broke down and needs to be replaced.  It contained the operating system (XP).  My other drive is OK.  I have all the original cdroms, including the operating system.
I need to know if I should be careful what it is.

    Hello Nigel

Each hard drive is different with their adjustment as far as riders go unless you have purchased the same exact model. Make sure that you set the jumpers on the correct setting for the new hard drive with the manual that came with the hard drive. You can also reconnect the cables of data and power supply for the reader who does not appear because they can be loosened.

I strongly suspect failure of hard drive on my old computer XPS 420. Data recovery isn't a problem. However, because the way I too lazy to buy a whole new operating system, is possible that I can transfer the installation of Windows Vista on a new hard drive? I'm thinking of ghosting the HDD on another and the use of the recovery for nuke partition in a new facility, but it would even work?

The simplest method, I prefer to install a replacement hard drive, is to clone the existing hard drive to the new, that will also transfer all applications and programs.

You need an imaging utility, similar to True Image Home 2015.

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage

Acronis resize partitions transferred to match the size of the new hard drive.

Hard drive manufacturers, also have their own free cloning software available, but it can be used only with their hard drives.

First, install the new drive as the secondary and the image of the main hard drive in it.

Immediately after the cloning, shut down the system, switch the data cable [SATA port 0] to the new disk, making the new master hard drive and see if the system boots properly.

Start the system with only the new hard drive connected.

Be sure to leave the original drive disconnected, until the new hard drive is working to your satisfaction.

Before cloning a hard drive, make sure that the existing drive has no corruption or virus on it, because they will be transferred to the new hard drive.

It will take a second SATA data cable, there should be a spare connector to SATA power inside the housing.

What is obtaining a disc from the Dell operating system Vista OEM [If Dell still copies of this available media], but you can be out of luck unless you have a warranty from Dell, but it's worth a try to see what is happening.

If you reside in the United States, or the Canada and are the registered owner of the computer, with an active warranty, a disk that contains the operating system specific to your system factory installed can be requested HERE.

Note: Dell may impose a charge for the disc.

If you do not live in the United States, contact the Support from Dell, which is located in your country.

There is no 'BONES' at this level... you're probably citing the "software version", which is something different. Reference:

    • Article ID: KB23393 How to check the model number and the version of the OS on a BlackBerry smartphone

In addition, it is not the true latest version available... However, your carrier may not have approved which is more recent (at least two since this version, I think).

    paluza wrote:

Here, in this community from user to user, anyone know (or if they know, reveal) this forward-looking information.

There are other alternatives, but they depend on some things...

If you used the "automatic" methods to perform the update, this process may well have led to a corruption that is the cause (many related things). Or the version you have installed may well have this fault (many report these).

In any cause, the thing to do is to reload your operating system properly and see if that clears up the problem. Or, update to the really newer version and see if that clears it. The method that I recommend for your situation is autoloader... refer:

With automatic charger, you can install any OS you can find a valid automatic charger, since regardless cases your carrier has approved or not. You can also use the ADF to return to any level of 'work' OS you want. But, honestly, I recommend you use an auto-loader to install the most recent version, then see if things clear up - if not, then use another automatic charger to retreat.

    Good luck!

  • When installing a new operating system isn't automatically wipe the hard disk, create a new partition, and then install the operating system?

Have a Dell system, caught a virus and it has really messed up the PC. Recently, it got worse so I tried to reinstall the operating system with the Dell disks. It wouldn't work. So I bought for Windows 7 Professional, it will not be installed. My first question when installing a new operating system isn't automatically wipe the hard disk, create a new partition, and then install the operating system? Because this does the same as the Dell disks, is to take what is on the hard drive and put it in a folder called windows old, is not formatting the HD. When I boot the disk, it shows the installation of files then open windows and start the installation. Before he could finish I get an error missing or corrupted files. Tried several times now, windows will still not open. Any suggestions? Once while trying to install the pc crashed with a blue screen which is one of the reasons why I have reinstall the OS, he started to plant a few times. I don't remember all the details on my PC, but its 4 years, triple core coprocessors, ram 8 GB, 500 GB HD. At the same time just after all this started in Jan. I had also improved my 3 GB to 8 GB memory. I bought the Dell memory for my system. Since the crash, could there be a problem with these new memory chips? Last night I tried to disassemble each and reinstalling it, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Before I tried to reinstall the operating system, the pc was see the concert 8.

    64 bit 32 vs

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions

My PC running the 32-bit version or 64-bit Windows?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7

Windows 7 64 bit comes in handy when you need to deal with at least 4 GB of RAM or more. Windows 7 32 bit can use up to 3.2 GB of RAM. Because the address space of memory is much larger for 64-bit Windows, this means that you need two times more memory than the 32-bit Windows to accomplish some of the same task, but you are able to do much more, you can have more apps open, do things like run a virus scan in the background it will affect the performance of your system. 64-bit Windows 7 is safer too, malicious code cannot easily infiltrate it, drivers are more reliable because they must be signed before it can work with 64 bit Windows 7.

Regarding compatibility, you need device drivers 64-bit hardware devices, you may have. In addition, there is no 16-bit subsystem in Windows 7 64-bit, which means, your applications must be 32-bit only, not 16-bit Installer or programs uninstaller. Also, if you decide to switch to Windows 7 64 bit in the future, there is no way to upgrade from 32-bit Windows, clean install only.

I think to update my "BOLD" to the OS 5.0 but I wanted to know if the phone will keep a version of my old OS or if it deletes it.  I saw a video on youtube and the guy he said he 'could' save a version of it.  Also, when I checked the updates on my phone it says it was not all available even if on the Desktop Manager, it says that there is.  Is it still useful to upgrade? I've seen a version of it on an other "BOLD" and others that texting is a bit different and the camera being much better it looks not very different.  Because I hate change, I'm not sure I want to take the risk.  I wish you can customize the download and choose what is updated. If I update and it does not save a previous version of the operating system is there somewhere on this site that will allow me to put it back on?

The upgrade of the OS on your handheld does not keep a copy of the old operating system, when the new operating system is installed.  If you do a backukp through DTM then you will have all your data and applications (not BlackBerry).

If the upgrade does not work well, you need to go back to the previous operating system that works.  Then, you need to restore your data and applications.
