A second update manager...

Hello

We have a vCenter server and ESX on 2 different sites. All ESX are connected to the same Virtual Center. VUM is installed on the vCenter server.

Site 1: Server vCenter, ESX, VUM

Site 2: ESX servers (connected to vCenter Site 1)

VUM works very well for ESX in the same site (site 1). But pushing updates to site 2 is too slow.

So, it is possible to add a second site 2 VUM server if all ESX servers are connected to the same vCenter?

Or I need to install a second server vCenter Site 2 and separate completely the two sites?

Thank you

The issue may be due to the latency of the network between the two sites.

You need to install a different vCenter in the second site, and then install VUM with her. This is because each VC can have only a registered VUM with her and vice versa. The VC and AUVS should be of the same version as well. Thus, a single instance of VUM does not work with more than a VC.

Thank you.

  • I have a question about the ESXi upgrade using Update Manager...

    This is probably a stupid question, but I've never played and update ESXi using Update Manager.  We need to update ESXi ESXi 4.1 4.1 servers before vCenter 5.0 U1 from U2 (there is a known issue where the ESXi 4.1 servers receive the GROUP after upgrading vCenter to 5.0 U1).  We used HP ESXi image to install ESXi on our servers for new installations.  This image contains ESXi.1 U2 as well as the drivers of HP and CIM.

    4.1_U2_Oct_2011_ESXi_HD - USB-SDImgeInstlr_Z7550 - 00241.iso

    Can this same image HP ESXi 4.1 U2 that we used to install to new ESXi servers, be used to upgrade our 4.1 4.1 U2 ESXi servers using the Update Manager?  Or, upgrade package should be used for the upgrade?  Also, if an upgrade package must be used, is it OK to use one provided by VMware, or will be losing our HP specific drivers and CIM to do this?

    Thank you

    Hello

    You can import custom HP ESXi 4.1 U2 ISO in Update Manager (don't forget to use the latest version of June 2012, available here: https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPVM06) and update the hosts with her.

    In a second step, you can then import the last custom HP ESXi ISO 5.0 (available here: https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPVM09) and update the hosts again with her.

    To be on the current ESXi 5.0 patch level you finally apply the latest patches from VMware via the Update Manager.

  • VMware vCenter Update Manager Client installation fails

    I have a system that has been upgraded to ESX 3.5 to vSphere and installed successfully the vSphere Client, can see my hosts and virtual machines without any problem.  I install the plugin VM converter, but when I try to install the plugin Update Manager it fails every time.

    I'm installing on a 64-bit Windows 7 computer (my laptop is also Win7 64 bit and it installed successfully there).  I tried to install the application and get the error message in the Windows application logs:

    Product: VMware vCenter Update Manager Client - Setup cannot continue. VMware vSphere Client is not found to be installed on this computer. VMware vCenter Update Manager Client can be installed only on machines where VMware vSphere Client is present.

    I've already entered my store of % TEMP % and tried to install just the exe file (VMware - UMClient.exe) and who is not, I copied the extracted files, including all the files .ini, .bmp, .msi and .mst to the root of my C drive and tried installing from there.  All this provided the same failure.

    During the installation, I get this message first indicating the location of my vSphere Client installation:

    When I click on the only 'real' installation option, then spend a few seconds and then I get this message:

    http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/9022/install2.png

    Click ok and then get a message saying that the installation has failed.

    I managed to do install finally.

    The strange solution was that I had to log on as an administrator of my machine and then install the plugin.  Even if my account is an administrator account.

    Anyway, problem solved, works perfectly and am clean now.

  • Update Server ESXi 4 Update 1 in a HA cluster with Update Manager

    I have currently a node two, HA on VSphere 4 cluster each host running ESXi 4. I want to update ESXi 4 Update 1 by using Update Manager. My question is, I'd do one host at a time to ensure that the guests stay up? The update to ESXi 4 update 1 requires even the hosts restart? I still have an option to update only one host at a time?

    I just want to know if there is a way to update the two nodes in the cluster without interruption of the comments.

    Thank you.

    You can do the remidiation at the level of the cluster by using Update Manager

    in your case, Manager Update wll start theremidation the first host and repeat the failure of the virtual machine on a second host (hope you have activated the DRS for the VMotion). Once the restoration is complete and host will start, it will do VMotion to improved host and continue sanitation on the second host.

    Update Manager also supports remidiating each host in the cluster.

  • VMWare Update Manager, patch lost files, how to re - download all?

    Hello

    We have a laboratory to test very small/dev with some ESX server and a Management Server VI including the Update Manager. This administration server is only a standalone machine with two local disks. In the vci - integrity.xml, we moved the location for the hotfix on a second drive data store

    & lt; docRootHostUpdates & gt;

    & lt; namespace & gt; "" vci / / hostupdates "& lt; / space names & gt;

    & lt; path & gt; D:\VMWarePatchStore\Data\ & lt; / path & gt;

    & lt; / docRootHostUpdates & gt;

    and

    & lt; patchStore & gt; D:\VMWarePatchStore\Data\ & lt; / patchStore & gt;

    Everything worked well for several months, until the D: drive crashed and the entire data store has been lost. Well, obviously no backup of this patch store because the idea was that these data can at any time be re-uploaded, if necessary. Only the C-disk's backup.

    Well, now we're at the stage where I have to re - download / fill this store patch, but I can't understand how to do this...

    Last weekend several 3.0.3 new patches have been released, and they have been downloaded in the patchStore. But no version 3.5.0 patches. (All of our ESX servers are 3, 5 - U2 all patches until December). When I run a "Scan for Updates" on any of the hosts-ESX, I get an error message in the file esxupdate.log on the ESX host:

    26 jan 09-0842 DEBUG: Summary: / usr/sbin/esxupdate - HA - d - flushcache http:// & lt; system-ip & gt;:80/vci/hostupdates/hostupdate/esx/esx-3.5.0 scan

    Jan 26-0842 09 ERROR: hostagent: file: [http:// < system-ip >: 80/vci/hostupdates/hostupdate/esx/esx-3.5.0/contents.xml.sig]

    09 jan 26-0842 ERROR: hostagent: Extra :()

    Well, of course, that the file cannot be found, it was lost in the disk crash. The D-drive has been replaced, and I created the necessary directories manually. But in the subdirectory 3.5.0 - esx, there is no content and that the update of the weekly signature work runs and completes successfully, the lost content is not automatically recreated. I guess if there are new patches, they would appear there. But none of the 'old' patches of disk crash. If add us an ESX or need to re - install one, we need to patch, so I want to patch-store to be "complete" and contain at least the required corrections published after 3.5.0-U2.

    Then... I wonder what to do. Should I uninstall the Update Manager and re-install? I would like to avoid this. I couldn't find any command line interface (do not even talk about GUI) so far. Any help?

    Thanks in advance, Herbert

    The Update Manager database yet entered saying that patches are on the D: drive, even if they aren't there.  The entries in the database must be purged, or simply create a new database and point your current Manager to update to the new database.  All updates will then be re-uploaded.

  • Sonic Update Manager always appears after restarting and remains on the screen

    I finally got my c4480 all-in-one printer to work - after so many trials.  Now everytime I restart the computer, I get the Sonic Update Manager on the screen and it never goes away!  I can scoot the side to see the screen on the monitor, but it always remains on the desktop.  I did something after the fiasco of trying to get the printer to work?

    Thanks for the help!  It got so boring that nothing has worked to stop him from keeping popping up.  I was surprised that the first solution worked.

  • Box of Veritas Update Manager install

    Whenever I start my computer, I get this stat box says Veritas Update Manager install (or something like that).  Click to cancel it, and this goes back to trying to install.  I have to click Cancel about 8 to 10 times before it finally stopped.  I can solve this problem?

    Hello

    ·        You have a program called VERITAS on the system?

    VERITAS is a security/backup application. If you have the application installed on the system, then it could be that the program tries to update and these updates very probably contains virus definitions.

    If you have not intentionally installed, then you must remove it to add / remove programs on the system. Follow the steps mentioned below.

    a. Click Start, click Control Panel.

    b. click on add and remove programs and locate the program in the list.

    c. right-click on the program and click on uninstall.

    This allows to uninstall the program from the system. For more information, I suggest you to check the article mentioned below.

    How to manually remove programs from the add tool / remove programs

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314481

    I suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the program for assistance.
