A Site VPN PIX501 and CISCO router
Hello Experts,
I have an at home test lab, I set up a site to site vpn using a router Cisco PIX501 and CISCO2691, for configurations, I have just a few links on the internet, because my background on VPN configuration is not too good, for the configuration of routers, I followed this link:
www.Firewall.CX/Cisco-Technical-Knowledgebase/Cisco-Routers/867-Cisco-ro...
and for configuring pIX I just use the VPN Wizard of pix. All confgurations but ping failed. Hope you can help me with this, don't know what to do here (troubleshooting).
Joint here is the configuration of my router, topology, as well as the pix configuration. Hope you can help me with this. Thanks in advance.
Hi Mark,
I went in the Config of the ASA
I see that the dispensation of Nat is stil missing there
Please add the following
access-list allowed sheep ip 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 172.21.1.0 255.255.255.0
inside NAT) 0 access-list sheep
Then try it should work
Thank you
REDA

The PIX is also used VPN client, such as the VPN Cicso 5.0 client access, works very well. Router is used as a server SSL VPN, too much work
I know there are a lot of data here, I hope that these data may be useful for diagnostic purposes.
All suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated.
Sean

VPN between ASA and cisco router [phase2 question]
Hi all
I have a problem with IPSEC VPN between ASA and cisco router
I think that there is a problem in the phase 2
Can you please guide me where could be the problem.
I suspect questions ACL on the router, but I cannot fix. ACL on the router is specified belowLooking forward for your help

Cisco ASA Site to Site VPN IPSEC and NAT question
Hi people,
I have a question about the two Site to Site VPN IPSEC and NAT. basically what I want to achieve is to do the following:
ASA2 is at HQ and ASA1 is a remote site. I have no problem setting a static static is a Site to IPSEC VPN between sites. Guests residing in 10.1.0.0/16 are able to communicate with hosts in 192.168.1.0/24, but what I want is to configure the NAT with IPSEC VPN for this host to 10.1.0.0/16 will communicate with hosts in 192.168.1.0/24 with translated addresses
Just an example:
N2 host (10.1.0.1/16) contacted N1 192.168.1.5 with destination host say 10.23.1.5 No 192.168.1.5 (notice the last byte is the same in the present case,.5)
The translation still for the rest of the communication (host pings ip destination host 10.23.1.6 N3 N2 not 192.168.1.6 new last byte is the same)
It sounds a bit confusing to me, but I've seen this type of configuration before when I worked for the supplier of managed services where we have given our customers (Ipsec Site to Site VPN with NAT, don't know how it was setup)
Basically we contact the customer via site-to-site VPN hosts but their real address were hidden and we used as translated address more high 10.23.1.0/24 instead of (real) 192.168.1.0/24, last byte must be the same.
Grateful if someone can shed some light on this subject.
Hello
OK so went with the old format of NAT configuration
It seems to me that you could do the following:
- Configure the ASA1 with static NAT strategy
- access-list L2LVPN-POLICYNAT allowed ip 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.0.0 255.255.0.0
- public static 10.23.1.0 (inside, outside) access-list L2LVPN-POLICYNAT
- Because the above is a static NAT of the policy, this means that the translation will be made only when the destination network is 10.1.0.0/16
- If you have for example a PAT basic configuration to inside-> external traffic, the above NAT configuration and the custom of the actual configuration of PAT interfere with eachother
- ASA2 side, you can normally configure NAT0 / NAT Exemption for the 10.1.0.0/16 network
- Note of the INTERIOR-SHEEP access-list SHEEP L2LVPN
- the permitted INSIDE SHEEP 10.1.0.0 ip access list 255.255.0.0 10.23.1.0 255.255.255.0
- NAT (inside) 0-list of access to the INTERIOR-SHEEP
- You will need to consider that your access-list defining the VPN encrypted L2L traffic must reflect the new NAT network
- ASA1: allowed to access-list L2LVPN-ENCRYPTIONDOMAIN ip 10.23.1.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.0.0 255.255.0.0
- ASA2: list L2LVPN-ENCRYPTIONDOMAIN allowed ip 10.1.0.0 access 255.255.0.0 10.23.1.0 255.255.255.0
I could test this configuration to work tomorrow but I would like to know if it works.
Please rate if this was helpful

LAN-to-LAN tunnel between VPN 3000 and Cisco 1721
Hello
I have a current LAN-to-LAN tunnel configuration between VPN 3000 (3.6) and Cisco 1721 (12.2 (11) T).
When I use the encryption = authentication and Des-56 = ESP\MD5\HMAC-128 for the IPSec Security Association, everything works fine.
However, I would like to Turn off encryption for some time getting the speed improvements, so I changed
Encryption = null esp (in 1721) and to "null" in VPN-3000.
Now the tunnel is setup but I can spend only ICMP traffic. When I pass the traffic UDP\TCP the message below appears the Cisco 1721
% C1700_EM-1-ERROR: error in packet-rx: pad size error, id 75, hen offset 0
Has anyone seen this behavior?
All those put in place an IPSec Tunnel with only the ESP authentication and NO encryption between VPN-3000 and Cisco 1721?
Thanx------Naman
Naman,
Disable you the vpn Accelerator? "no accel crypto engine. Sure that you can't do with a null module vpn.

Need some advice about the VPN between local Cisco router and remote Watchguard
Hi all
I am configuring a Cisco 887 to VPN router to a device of watchguard at the remote site.
From what I understand, the VPN tunnel is in PLACE. I can ping to the remote server on the 192.168.110.0 of the network, but whenever I try to navigate to it on the local server, it wouldn't work.
I ping the remote server via the IP address on the local server, but not on the Cisco router. Is - will this work as expected?

and you should have the image mirror on the remote end ACL line too.
PLS, remove the remaining lines on 102 ACL ACL.
I guess that the ACL 101 is NAT exemption, if it is pls include "deny ip 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.110.0 0.0.0.255" on top of your current line "license".
Clear the tunnels as well as the NAT translation table after the changes described above.

Launch a VPN from a cisco router on the LAN behind the ASA?
We currently have an ASA with used site to site VPN and anyconnect VPN. We received a third party cisco router that will be used to launch their own VPN site to site of inside our LAN to their local network through our ASA.
1 NAT Traversal would call our ASA? 5540 (config) #crypto isakmp nat-traversal
2. the ports listed below interfere with site to site VPN and anyconnect VPN ports?
SSH
-allow access of xxxxx on TCP Port 22
ICMP
-allow access of xxxxx - Protocol No. 1
ISAKMP
-allow access to xxxxx on UDP Port 500, also add UDP 4500 for NAT - T
ESP
-allow access to xxxxx - protocol 50
Port of certificate:
-allow access to xxxxx on port TCP 8080
NTP port:
-allow access to xxxxx on port UDP 123
Hi Michael,
1-
NAT - T is only required if one of the sites is behind NAT.
NAT - T allows to establish a connection through a NAT device counterparts IPsec. It does this by encapsulating IPsec datagrams UDP traffic, using the port 4500, which provides information of port NAT. NAT - T devices automatically detects all NAT devices and only encapsulates IPsec traffic when necessary. This feature is disabled by default.
http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/security/ASA/asa84/configuration/guide/vpn_ike.html#wp1120836
2-
ISAKMP
-allow access to xxxxx on UDP Port 500, also add UDP 4500 for NAT - T
ESP
-allow access to xxxxx - protocol 50
The ports above are those used for the IPsec VPN, SSL AnyConnect does not use them.
Let me know.
Thank you.

Site to Site VPN - ASA 5510 / 851 router - no Sas?
We have installed an ASA 5510, version 1.0000 software running. In a remote area, we have a Cisco router to 851 with tunneling IPSec VPN for a PIX 515e. I try to open a backup between the 851 and ASA connection new, and I have a problem. I used ASDM on the side of the ASA and CCP on the side 851 and created a new VPN site to site on both, with PSK encryption algorithms, etc.. I checked the connectivity between the external interfaces of the two devices, and the associated ACLs are simple, because they allow all IP traffic on the internal side of the two devices to talk with each other.
When I do a "crypto isakmp to show his" on the SAA, I get "there is no its isakmp. When I do the same on the 851 router, I see only the existing connection to the PIX. It seems that the tunnel does not run again. I turned on debug various crypto and sent a series of pings, and I don't see any tunnel initiaion even be attempted.
CCP has a VPN to test the tool built in to the router. ASDM has a similar feature? Here's the relevant configs (at least I think... the SAA is enough Greek to me):

Michael,
Since you are using the same ACL, subnets, even and even while on your router to your VPN 1 tunnels config and 2, your second VPN tunnel will not succeed because the router already has a tunnel with the PIX for the same traffic.
If you want to configure the ASA as peer backup scratch the second card encryption and instead, add the public IP ASA as a second peer under the original crypto configuration.
Like this:
crypto map SDM_CMAP_1 1 ipsec-isakmp
description Tunnel to65.42.15.142
set peer 65.42.15.142
set peer 12.49.251.3
match address 102
The router will attempt to connect to the PIX and if this fails (which means that the PIX has never responded) then it will try to connect to the ASA.
To test it, you could do either of two things: 1. taking the internet conection low PIX will make the router try to connect to the secondary host. 2: change (temporarily) on the router address peer of the PIX to a bogus IP that won't respond, when only one omits the router must try to negotiate with the ASA.
I hope this helps.

Is site to site VPN with sufficiently secure router?
Hello
I have a question about the site to site VPN with router.
Internet <> router <> LAN
If I have a VPN site-to-site configured on the router above with another site. I configured to block incoming Internet connections with the exception of VPN to access list. What are the risks of the LAN is exposed to threats from the Internet? Recommend that you put in a firewall between the router and the LAN, or replace the router with a firewall?
Thank you
Hi Amanda,.
Assuming your L2L looks like this:
LAN - router - INTERNET - Router_Remote - LAN
|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
L2L
Traffic between the two local area networks is protected by the VPN tunnel. It is recommended to use the recommended security (strong encryption settings) to ensure that the encrypted traffic would not be compromised through the Internet.
On the other hand, if you talk about outbound plaintext to the Internet, as when a user acceses google.com, then you just make out traffic, but never allow all incoming connections.
If you want to protect your network with advanced security as a FW features, you can consider ZBF, which is the available in IOS Firewall/set function:
Design of the area Guide of Application and firewall policies
If you consider that this is not enough, check the ASA5500 series.

IPsec site to Site VPN on Wi - Fi router
Hello!
Can someone tell me if there is a router Netgear Wi - Fi that can form IPsec Site to Site VPN connection between 2 Wi - Fi routers via the WAN connection?
I know that this feature exists on the Netgear firewall, but can you have the same function on any Wi - Fi router?
See you soon!
Michael
I suspect that.
Thank you very much for the reply.
See you soon!

Clients vpn AnyConnect and cisco using the same certificate
Can use the same certificate on the ASA client Anyconnect and cisco vpn ikev1-2?
John.
The certificate is to identify a user/machine rather than the Protocol, then Yes, generally 'yes' you can use the same certificate for SSL/IKEv1/IKEv2 connections.
What you need to take care of, it's that said certificate is fulliling Elements of the Protocol, for example implmentations IKEv2 is 'necessary' particular KU are defined and client-server-auth/auth EKU are defined on the certificates.

Network Magic and Cisco router EA4500 UID and password
I use the 5.5.9150.0 version of the free product. I had my last router, with a WRT400N. Since then, I have installed an EA4500 router to replace the WRT400N. I'm glad that Network Magic works with my new router, but I have a problem: I can't connect to my router via Netowrk Magic.
Protection status/Wireless / Wireless Protection settings brings up a window that asks you the router user name and the password. I went to the page "Setting Up: Basics" guide of the user EA4500 (page 13) and tried all the values that I had copied in when I installed the router.
I tried the SSID of the router and the "Linksys Smart Wi - Fi Username ' in the user ID box.
I tried the "Linksys Smart WIFI password", the network, the Guest network password password and the router password (same as the network password).
Nothing has worked. I've only connected to the EA4500 using the Linksys Smart WiFi, username and password, so I'm stuck trying to figure what values to use.
Please help me understand what I am doing wrong. Thank you!
I stumbled in the response:
1. start Network Magic and display the network map.
2. click on the name of the router (just under the router icon).
3. click on Set Up or manage the device.
4. the Linksys WiFi Smart Sign In (to the router) window appears.
5 connect to the router by using the credentials of Smart Wi - Fi that you set up when you have installed the router.
Now, all router commands will work from within Network Magic.

You have PFS (Perfect Forward Secrecy) configured on the ASA and not the router. This could be one of the reasons why the tunnel fails in Phase 2.
If you do not need a PFS, can you not make a 'no encryption card WAN_map 1 set pfs' the configuration of the ASA and make appear the tunnel.
Kind regards

Site to Site VPN of IOS - impossible route after VPN + NAT
Hello
I have problems with a VPN on 2 routers access 8xx: I am trying to set up a quick and dirty VPN Site to Site with a source NAT VPN tunnel endpoint. This configuration is only intended to run from one day only inter. I managed to do the work of VPN and I traced the translations of NAT VPN tunnel endpoint, but I couldn't make these translated packages which must move outside the access router, because intended to be VPN traffic network is not directly connected to leave the router. However, I can ping the hosts directly connected to the router for access through the VPN.
Something done routing not to work, I don't think the NATing, because I tried to remove the NAT and I couldn't follow all outgoing packets that must be sent, so I suspect this feature is not included in the IOS of the range of routers Cisco 8xx.
I'm that extends the features VPN + NAT + routing too, or is there a configuration error in my setup?
This is the configuration on the router from Cisco 8xx (I provided only the VPN endpoint, as the works of VPN endpoint)
VPN endpoints: 10.20.1.2 and 10.10.1.2
routing to 192.168.2.0 is necessary to 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254

Hi Jürgen,
First of all, when I went through your config, I saw these lines,
!
interface Vlan2
IP 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.248
!
!
IP route 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.254
!
With 255.255.255.248 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254 subnet will fall to different subnets. So I don't think you can join 192.168.2.0/24 subnet to the local router at this point. I think you should fix that first.
Maybe have 192.168.1.2 255.255.255. 248 on the router connected (instead of 192.168.1.254)
Once this has been done. We will have to look at routing.
You are 172.31.0.2-> 192.168.1.11 natting
Now, in order for that to work, make sure that a source addresses (192.168.1.11) NAT is outside the subnet router to router connected (if you go with 192.168.1.0/29 subnet router to router, with 192.168.1.1/29 on the local router and 192.168.1.2/29 on the connected router as suggested, it will be fine). So in this case 192.168.1.8/29 to the subnet that your NAT would be sources fall.
Have a static route on the router connected (192.168.1.2) for the network 192.168.1.8/29 pointing 192.168.1.1,
!
IP route 192.168.1.8 255.255.255.248 192.168.1.1
!
If return packets will be correctly routed toward our local router.
If you have an interface on the connected rotuer which includes the NAT would be source address range, let's say 192.168.1.254/24, even if you do your packages reach somehow 192.168.2.0/24, the package return never goes to the local router (192.168.1.1) because the connected router sees it as a connected subnet, so it will only expire
I hope I understood your scenario. Pleae make changes and let me know how you went with it.
Also, please don't forget to rate this post so useful.

Routing problem between the VPN Client and the router's Ethernet device
Hello
I have a Cisco 1721 in a test environment.
A net 172.16.0.0/19 simulates the Internet and a net 192.168.1.0/24 simulates the net, the VPN tunnel must go to (intranet).
The net 172.16.0.0 depends on the router 0 FastEthernet, Intranet (VPN) hangs on Ethernet 0.
The configuration was inspired form the sample Configuration
"Configuring the Client VPN Cisco 3.x for Windows to IOS using Local extended authentication"
and the output of the ConfigMaker configuration.
Authentication and logon works. Client receives an IP address from the pool. But there's a routing problem
side of routers. Ping client-side - do not work (the VPN client statistics that count encrypt them packets, but not to decrypt).
Ping the router works too, but decrypt and encrypt customer statistics in VPN packets count progressive
(customer has a correct route and return ICMP packets to the router).
The question now is:
How to route packets between the Tunnel and an Ethernet device (Ethernet 0)?
conf of the router is attached - hope that's not too...
Thanks & cordially
Thomas Schmidt

Thomas,
Can't wait to show something that might be there, but I don't see here. You do not have the card encryption applied to one of the interfaces, perhaps it was not copied. Assuming your description you do it, or should it be, applied to the fa0 and you are connected. Try how you ping? Since the router or a device located on E0? If you ping the router, you will need to do an extended ping of E0 to the ip address of the client has been assigned. If your just ping the router without the extension, you will get sales and decrypts that you declare on the client. Have you tried to ping from the client to interface E0? Your default route on the router is pointing to fa0? You have a next hop to affect? You have several NIC on the client pc? Turn off your other network cards to check that you don't have a problem with routing on the client if you have more than one.
