A user account cannot run a .exe, only to get hold to open/save.
A user account running on this PC suddenly can't startup such as IE applications, Solutions from HP, widget bar displaying stopped, etc. could be a virus, the user compained about nagging holdup to install virus protection, even if we have MacAfee in place and fine workmanship, all protections in place. Double click on IE icon to start and gets the heist to open or save the .exe file. How should I do? I'm an admin, but I don't see a way to solve this problem in the mapping of types of files/mimetypes.
Hi Iluvtunes,
This could be a problem with the corruption of the user profiles, because this issue is not with the other user accounts. I suggest to create a new user and check if the problem persists.
Steps to create a new user profile.
- Open a user account by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click user accounts and family safety (or by clicking on user accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking user accounts.
- Click Manage another account. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- Click create a new account.
- Type the name that you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click create an account.
If the new user account works fine, then you can copy all the files to the new user profile.

on windows 7 starter edition how can I open an admin account, I have a standart account and I couldn't open any software on computer please help me.even change user account cannot be opened.
Hi kuentin,.
Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!
(1) - what do you mean you have only 1 user account?
When you set up Windows, you will need to create a user account. This account is an administrator account to allow you to set up your computer and install any programs that you want to use. And that's why the user account you are using is the administrator account.
There is no way that you can create an administrator account, or by using a Standard account.
(2) are you having issues during installation of the software or opening it?
(3) what exactly happens when you try to open the software application?
(4) should be codes error or error messages, if any?
(5) what software are you trying to install or open?
I suggest you go to the link below and read for more information on user accounts.

My computer is asleep after a few minutes. Then I have to enter a password to reactivate. I want to be able to change the settings for a time of sleep of my choice. I don't want to have to enter a password to wake the computer either. I went to user accounts and tried to change the settings, but they do not save the changes.
What happens when you try to change the power plan?
You shouldn't need administrator rights to change the settings in most situations. -

'Lost' admin user account - cannot use the system restore
We have an old desktop running XP Media. At 6 accounts on - account admin 1 parent, 4 other named accts (non admin) and 1 guest (non admin)
The system is somehow now starts only showing 1 user account - non-admin one child one. In management of the computer (administrative tools), accounts are but are not accessible.
Have no idea how to access / info. Unable to use System Restore as one account stated is a non-admin one.
Can someone help, please? -have been Googling for a few hours now :(
As a last resort, you can try the following procedure:
"How do I recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP startup"
<>http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/307545 >Which essentially restores the registry from a backup copy kept with the files in system restore. In part 2, select a dated folder until you have had this problem to copy the registry of the. Personally, I find it is easier to start from free Linux Livecd like Knoppix , in which case you can start the procedure in part 2, step 6 using Linux and paste to copy files to their desired location. Live CD of Linux has no problems with dealing with the status of "Super hidden" System Volume Information folder.
Good luck and HTH,

Sorry for the long question. The issue is that totally impossible to install Firefox 9.0.1, so it can be used by the two user accounts on this desktop computer. I tried several times to download the update and install when running the second user account. It does not seem to install - page 'About' Watch 'Apply Update' - which then seems to do nothing. When I go to the primary account user Firefox is fully installed and functional.
If files have already been downloaded, then delete the files in the folder of updates\0 and updates or you need to run Firefox once as administrator on each account where the files for the update has been downloaded.
You can also remove active - update.xml, or even updates.xml (stores the history of update).- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Update works not properly)
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
The "Application Data" in XP/Win2K folder and the folder "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.

I lost the use of user account from quick switch connect again. GRRRR. I have dated back to my computer to see if XP service pack 3

Black screen - cannot run Explorer.exe with Task Manager
Hi guys
I've been Googling the answer to that for the last day and nothing seemed to work.
Basically, my portable was working fine until this morning, when I restarted. After the home screen, just a rear screen with the mouse. CTRL ALT DEL and everything still works normally. I can run programs with the Task Manager, but can not run explorer.exe. He returned in the process for about 10 seconds then disappears. I think that it is the cause of the black screen. I tried downloading an own explorer.exe and replace the explorer.exe in C:\Windows\. My computer it did not as he said I need the permission of the administrator, but of course, I am the Admin so I don't know what that's all.
I tried to restart in Mode safe and that works very well, still, I can't replace the explorer.exe in the C:\Windows\ because I do not have the administrative authorization. I tried to change it in the Security tab of the properties, or impossible.
I also tried to update the driver software graphics cards, checked the Shell in the registry value and made sure it's explorer.exe, used the difficulty of black of Pevx screen, used HitmanPro and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool to scan and remove malware. I even did a scf/scannow, checked driver C a mistake (which took 3 hours!), let Windows Startup Repair to fix things, tried a system restore but failed. He says that the anti-virus (Sophos) prevented the restoration of the system, so I've temporarily disabled its access scanning on but still unable to restore to a previous (11/01). Program changes that recent such as listed in the system restore is Google + Auto BackUp who came when set Picasa to date there 3 days and a more recent version of Facebook video call I've ever used. I am now running a scan with Sophos, not too promising.
So yes, I tried everything. I think that now, there are only three options:1 somehow replace the explorer.exe in C:\Windows\ with this new cool explorer.exe, which I downloaded, with the permission of the administrator
2. try another restore of the system, but I'm sure that nothing will happen, already tried three times.
3 reinstall Windows 7 Edition Home Premium. It will be a real pain.So please help me! I have courses of due on Monday and this portable do not let me what that be done. Thank you!!!
Please ignore the other my long answer. The problem has now been resolved.
After trying all kind of scans, drinking and sobbing, I came across TDSS Killer from Kaspersky, who managed to catch a 1 latest unique malicious software (that I was too stupid and really looked hopeless and remember the name of), it cures the problem after reboot. Now, the laptop works well like you wouldn't believe. I'm still confused but way too happy now to care. Thanks a lot for your help nevertheless! -
Standard user account cannot access the programs installed by administrators account
I have a new Windows 7 computer. I installed various programs using the Administrators account, and then I created a Standard user account. When I login as a user standard I can't see all installed programs. Some are, some are not aware that I have nothing differently when I installed each program. I deleted the first standard user account and created a new standard user but still don't see not all installed programs.
Thank you
Claire
When you have installed programs, perhaps you have chosen to install just for the first user. In all cases, you can put shortcuts to programs in the Menus to start other users.
Right click on the "All programs" button from the Start Menu and choose 'Open' to get user-specific Start Menu folder. Choose "Open All Users" to download the file of the start - the system-wide Menu.
%Appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu folder or user-specific and
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu for all users. Then just copy the shortcut icons, as you wish.
By the way, I always install programs from the Standard user account, providing the password/OK to the UAC prompt. Even if of course you want an administrative user established (and always run as standard for your daily work), almost never, you need to log on to the administrative account.

I created a user account for my child. I am able to access the internet through firefox. Then I set the parental controls and can NOT access the internet more. I turn off parental controls for this user account. I still can't access the internet from this account.
Parental control is a part of the operating system Windows and not Firefox. You can get help here: http://support.microsoft.com/ask-community/windows/

New user account, cannot access documents
You are using windows vista home, I opened a new account and left the old account as the administrator account. Now, in the new user account, I don't have the documents. How can I get new access to user account for all of the documents that were already on the computer? Now, just the administrator can access them.

How can I get new access to user account for all of the documents that were already on the computer? Now, just the administrator can access them.
In each user account, there is a PUBLIC folder.
Public folders are open (accessible) to all users.
Back to your admin account > transfer document files/records in the Public record > logon for the user account > go to the Public folder > you should see all the documents.
How to "transfer" documents in the Public folder?
You can use one of the following methods...1. drag and Drop option.
2 copy and paste option.
3. copy to or move to the right click options.
* My favorite is the options copy to or Move To.
If you don't have them in your context menu, here is the tutorial to add.

Dining options - cannot run ANY .exe file
I just set up a new 3020M and now I can't run .exe files. I can't run from the GUI system restore, nor can I run from a CMD prompt as I can't run the cmd.exe. Also, I can't run regedit.exe.
I have not yet created disk backup and am not even sure I could run the program.
Any help would be appreciated.
You have malware rootkit and reinstall from scratch.

User account ignore SmartDraw 2014 and to ask permission when I open the program
Hi, I am running windows 7 and am being harassed with user account alerts "to give their approval for an unknown program to make changes to this computer" when I open SmartDraw 2014. The only way I can stop this alert is completely, disabling user accounts that I don't want to do. I contacted SmartDraw and they said that Trend Micro has been the problem and have a "patch" (I don't know what it is) to correct the problem, but contacted Trend Micro and they said that it was Microsoft, so...
I put SmartDraw on 'run on administrator '.
I put SmartDraw in each list of exceptions that I can findI ran out of options, please help.
Kind regards
AbbyIt's a problem of SmartDraw for one of the following reasons:
- The program attempts to create/edit a file in a folder of the system such as c:\Program Files.
- The program tries to modify a protected registry location.
You can easily refute that Trend Micro is involved temporarily removing Trend Micro. Put SmartDraw into lists of exceptions is not bypass UAC restrictions.
