    Hello world.

I'm considering installing Windows on my 2006 iMac. I have a few questions I was hoping you might be able to help me with that. I know that this machine will run Windows 7 or 8, in terms of system resources, but probably doesn't have the RAM for 10.

The girl has reached Apple Obsolescence and no longer can be upgraded to newer versions of Mac OS. Unfortunately, this also means that she can not get the latest version of iTunes and don't talk to my phone. But she still my entire library of music.

I know that used at least iTunes is available on Windows, but I seem to remember that they took it. Y at - it an option to put my iTunes music on an iPhone 6 in a Windows environment? I don't mind if I need to convert files or otherwise work for her. I have just a few old out-of-print stuff that I really miss being able to listen to anywhere other than my office.

I'm pretty much stuck with versions before 10, due to the RAM thing. Honestly, I haven't used Windows since around 1998, with the exception of a terminal XP at work, so I don't know much about it. Any recommendation on which version is the best? And I can buy a copy online directly from Microsoft?

If I would be better off buying a new laptop for very cheap, it is also a possibility. But my Mac still works well, despite not being not supported for updates, and I hate wasting perfectly good material. I just don't have the money for another Mac right now.

You can install windows xp on the laptop, but I don't think that you can get everything to work perfectly, because this laptop is designed for windows 7.

In addition, I don't get what the point of buying a laptop with modern material and using an obsolete operating system. I can understand that people are accustomed to XP but you wouldn't get a maximum return of i3 processor/3 GB of RAM on a computer with windows XP.

    Hello

We never did all of the computer manufacturers of recovery disks

You must all reinstall them vista

If you have problems with the use or to contact the manufacturer recovery process manufacturers

It's their recovery process not microsofts

Read this on how to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

You should always have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

    Hello @Thufail19,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, so many other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff.

I read your post about installing Windows and he wanted to help!

As long as you have the product key for Windows, you can install via USB or the software disk.  Just follow the instructions on the screen.  You can check this site to see if your product is compatible with Windows 10: upgrade to Windows 10

If you are not sure about Windows 10, then I recommend installation 8.1 Windows and recovery media creation.  You can use this document to help you, if necessary: HP PC - create a recovery Image on disk or save a recovery Image on a Flash drive (Windows 8)

In this way, you can upgrade to Windows 10 If you choose, and if you are not happy with it, you can return to Windows 8. 1. once the operating system is ready to go, you can get the drivers you need for your product at the following site: drivers - HP for laptop - 15-af008ax

Here are a few documents about 10 additional Windows:

HP Notebook PC - upgrade to Windows 10

  • Need space to install Windows 7? I've got room, I don't?

I am trying to install Windows 7 on Vista laptop for my daughter.

The hard disk is partitioned into a C drive:

    79.6 GB used

    69.3 GB free

and the D drive is partitioned as

    24.6 MB used

    6.38 MB of free space

When I try to upgrade I get the following error

There is not enough free space on the D: partition. A total of 15 megabytes of free space is required.

When I look at the drive D with Windows Explorer it shows only 1 file called Bootsect.bak and he is 8 KB.

What occupies the rest of the space?

How can I enlarge Partition D so that I can install Windows 7?

    Rex

Do not install Windows 7 on the D: drive - which is the recovery disk and is not big enough for Windows 7. It is best if you keep the D: drive is - don't mess with it unless it is intended to prevent the installation of Windows 7. Restore the disk files should be hidden if you do not see them.

Install Windows 7 on drive C:. Sometimes, the program made the mistake to recommend the D: drive. Your C: drive drive has sufficient space for the installation of Windows 7, but if you make a room upgrade you may need to free up space.

Windows 7 requires about 20 GB of free space for installation with a clean install, and even more if you make a way to upgrade. If you have a lot of music and/or videos you can transfer it to an external storage device during the upgrade.

Upgrade to 64 - bit with this situation?
A few years ago, I bought a PC which has Vista installed on it, but I was given a Windows 7 Upgrade disk to install Windows 7. I was able to create a clean install with upgrade disc. Recently, I discovered that my processor can support 64-bit, so I want to go to that. Problem is the upgrade disc contains the 32-bit version, even though I believe complete dics of Windows 7 contains both versions. It does not mean that I am eligible for the 64 bit version of Windows 7? It's terribly confusing.
What are my options for installation of 64-bit? The 64-bit version can be downloaded or something? I even use the same product key?

Will be the product key, I received with my job to drive upgrade with the 64-bit version, I downloaded?

    Yes.

The key of Windows 7 works with 32 and 64 bit, but can only be installed at a time.

  • Install Windows 7 on a new machine

I'll throw my old PC I installed Windows 7 on. I have a laptop that I would like to install the Windows 7 disc, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to use the product key, as I already used it on my original machine.

    Any help would be appreciated.

So would I need to disable the function on the old computer (if such a thing is possible) as my understanding was that it is a matter "a computer license"?

It's a commercial version full btw.

Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer.

You can only use one key on a single computer at a time. If a key is used on two computers and they will be marked later.

  • is it possible to install windows 7 64-bit on dell 8600C

    Hello

At the present time, I have a dell inspiron 8600C with 2 gigabytes of RAM, 80 GB hard drive with windows xp sp3. Is it possible to install the version of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on this laptop? The Advisor to updgrade windows 7 Microsoft informs me that windows 7 32 bit can be installed on it?

Thanks for the reply in advance

    Rajeev

The 8600C Dell came with a Pentium M processor which is 32-bit only. You cannot install 64-bit with this processor, but 32-bit will work.

    Installation custom own steps

    Time to use:

Switching from XP to 7, or not supported in place upgrade paths (ex: Vista Home Pro 7)

A Windows system to 32 bit on a 64 bit system, or change the language

Don't want to make a room upgrade, or if you want a fresh install / clean

You can use a Full Windows 7 or upgrade disk to do a custom clean install. This will remove all of your programs, but you can save your files and settings on an external storage before doing so. You will need to reinstall all your programs after installing Windows 7. Here are the steps:

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if there are known problems that might affect installation and if you can install the 32-bit or the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Upgrade-Advisor

    2. backup all your files and settings to avoid losing documents, photos and other information. Windows Easy Transfer is a free tool to copy files (not programs) from your PC and then transfer back after installation of Windows 7. If you don't want to use Windows Easy Transfer, you can copy your files to a Flash DRIVE or CD/DVD. Note: The easy transfer will not work when changing languages, or when moving from 64 bit to 32 bit (it will work ranging from 32-bit to 64-bit).

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/Windows-easy-transfer

    3. find the discs installation and license/product associated to all your programs keys, because you have to manually reinstall all programs. If you have downloaded some Internet programs you can redownload them.

    4. place the Windows 7 disc in your DVD player. A window should appear from the installation process, when asked the type of installation do you want click on custom (advanced option). Note: 32 to 64-bit requires restart and boot from the DVD.

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, you can use Windows Easy Transfer (or a different backup method you used) to restore your files & settings and use your installation disks to reinstall all your programs. Then you're done - take advantage of Windows 7.
