About RAM compatibility...? HP Compaq Presario B2000

Hello everyone,

First of all please forgive me for my lameness...

I have this old laptop that I use constantly up to now I have had NO problem/s which so than ever, except it requires upgrading memory, since it had 256 MB of memory when I bought it... I decided to update my ram at least 1 GB for my laptop to be more or less at par to the current requirements of modern software... Now my question is concerning the ram compatibility, I just wanted to ensure that the Rams are compatible since RAM DDR1 SODIMM are quite expensive compared to their DDR2 and DDR3 variants and once the Rams are purchased cannot be returned... more than info posted below...

Laptop: COMPAQ Presario B2000 (model: REPLACEMENT-L07C)

s/n: KRD43404JD

p/n: PE972PA #AB0

Service: B2028AP

OS: Windows XP

The only DDR1 SODIMM RAM available to my place where I live are:

1. the TEAM Elite PC3200 DDR400 1 GB module

2. TEAM Elite PC3200 DDR400 512 MB module

Now my question:

1 are those DDR1 PC3200 RAM compatible with the laptop?

2. If these Rams are compatible should I expect (1module) 1 gb ddr400 or (2modules) 512 mb ddr400 RAM to achieve a system of 1 GB of ram?

3. I know it sucks but where I am from RAM DDR1 SODIMM are kindda rare and very hard to find.

Thank you that very very very much... and I hope to hear your words of wisdom... Thank you...

You are the very welcome.

Analytical result image has not yet passed censorship HP.

I can't find anything on Crucial or Kingston of the site or the other, but I found this...

http://www.upgradecomputermemory.com/RAM.cfm/memory/C/Compaq/Presario-notebook-memory/Presario-B-Series-notebook/Presario-B2000/

It's showing that this notebook can take up to 2 GB of memory (2 x 1 GB PC-2700 memory).

I don't know what to tell you. If it was me, I would buy only a single chip of 1 GB at a time to make sure it worked.

This place says that their memory is also guaranteed to be compatible.

  • wanting to upgrade ram in my compaq presario sr1220nx desktop computer, but mixes information

I have difficulties to obtain the correct information in the upgrade of ram in my sr1220nx. I currently have 512 MB in a slot and nothing in the other. Is gone to typical products, they said that I can put a maximum of 2 GB (1 GB in each slot). A lot of sites on the net say the same thing. (used their progam Configurator) I downloaded crucial.com scanner who has also verified maximum capacity of 2 GB. I was going to order 2 GB pny brand on amazon.com, but before I did I contacted technical support at the pny site and it said that my computer may not contain total 1 gb (512 in the two slots) he sent me care off hp.com site that has verified this info. I'm a bit at a loss. Thanks for any help. Message attached:

You can only use the PC-2700 (333 mhz) memory, and you can improve only 1 GB (two 512 MB modules). Chances are that you have currently two modules of 256 MB in the system, so you can install both of them and you will hit the max, the system can manage:

RAM I ordered for location empty.

  • Compaq Presario C731TU: RAM and CPU max UPGRADE Presario C731tu chipset GLS960 cpusocket PPGA478 RAM and CPU max UPGRADE

    Hi all!

I have a Compaq Presario C731TU I absolutely need to upgrade its opportunities top of page. I discovered that he could run processor family Intel core 2 duo, and celeron family, that sounds really good!

Then consulted taken PPGA478 processors on the site of intel with their processor feature filter (http://ark.intel.com/search/advanced?s=t&FamilyText=Legacy%20Intel%C2%AE%20Core%E2%84%A22%20Processo...)   the best option seems to be Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9500 (2.60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB Cache).

    My question is:

Is there another cpu option better? Inside of a forum, I read that it can withstand up to Intel C2D T9xxx family but after T9500 (e.g. T9600 or T9900) taking turns into PGA478 and not PPGA478. What is the difference between PPGA478 and PGA478? are they the same or not?

Are there limits on the CPU with the BIOS upgrade? (mine is upgrated to F34 which should be the latest version)

About RAM: this laptop should work max 2 GB of ram but in fact I use it with 3 GB of ram (with these config.: 1 GB on the inner slot and 2 GB on the external, the inverse solution does not work, can not guess why), but someone "found a way" to use the 2 banks of 2 GB 4 GB total (and if according with this http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/specupdate/316274.pdf - pag. 19 - should be quite possible) , what ram 2x2gb modules can be accepted if? Help me = S

Thank you very much in advance!

I opened the laptop and the chipset inside the computer, wirtten there is an INTEL GL 960 who should manage only 553 mhz FSB... But... I installed inside, as the core 2 duo t9300, which has 800 Mhz FSB and it is fully functional in frequency from 800 Mhz to FSB. Really good news =)

AIDA 64 tool (former Everest) shows the FSB of GL960 chipset can run on 533, 667 and 800 Mhz frequency.

  • Questions about upgrading a Compaq Presario CQ5205Y desktop computer system

    Good evening

I'm about to embark on my first serious upgrade of my computer, and I thought it would be a good idea to arrive before I get too far down the rabbit hole (and knocked out my Internet access).  What motivates the need to upgrade, it's that the system tends to lag when I programs using a lot of memory running and I think I can give him a decent boost on reasonably low budget.

I have a desktop PC Compaq Presario CQ5205Y Win7-64 bit without modification until running.  I'm lookin to upgrade the CPU and the RAM of the machine.  For ease of reference, here is the page describing the system:

    http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/document.jsp?objectID=c01859812&lang=en&cc=us&Conte...

For the CPU, I found a good price on an AMD Phenom X 4 9750 2.4 GHz Quad-Core CPU (HD9750WCJ4BGH).  What I read, it meets the necessary criteria (socket AM2 + 95W, etc.).  I still need to determine if it needs a fan or non - language marketing indicates that it is not), but assuming that it works, here are my questions for this update:

1 should I update the BIOS on the card, or change one of its parameters to recognize the new chip?

    2. with regard to the installation, I think that it's pretty simple - unlock/remove the Semprom LE-1300 that is there now, carefully align the new processor Phenom X 4 (Golden to golden triangle triangle) and tighten in place. Then, if necessary, install the fan/radiator.  Is this correct, or am I missing something important and potentially catastrophic?

For the RAM, I have not bought, but I think I need barrettes 2x2gb DDR2 memory unbuffered, non - ECC memory.  I'm showing my ignorance here, but I imagine that rain is better in this case and is much better than the PC2-5300 memory PC2-6400.  If Yes, then maybe something like (or more affordable if I can find it):

    http://www.TigerDirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6252562&CSID=_61

Once again, a couple of very similar questions:

    1. do I need to change BIOS settings after I installed memory or if the automatic detection system?

    2. I swapped memory on other computers before so I guess that this motherboard is always the same - unclip/dethrone the existing memory, slide into the new and snap it in place.  Does this sound right?

In my view, which covers everything I know, but if anyone has any other advice or warning indication, they would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for help a beginner brave new waters.

    Processor:

    (1) no updated BIOS available for this model

    (2) more or less correct... you will need a HSF (heatsink & fan) for the new processor and a thermal paste. After the installation of the CPU, you apply the thermal is dedicated to the then install the HSF. The stock will be Sempron HSF to adapt and work but can not dissipate the extra heat

    (3) it is one of these models that will accept AM3 Athlon II and Phenom II CPU (see CPU upgrade in specs), but if it is supported depends on the revision of the motherboard and the BIOS version. Your choice of Phenom 9750 is a sure way to go

    Memory:

    (1) once again, no BIOS update available for this model

    (2) sounds right

    (3) you can look at Newegg.com best prices

    Please send Bravo

  • Possible to add more RAM, maximum allowed on HP - Compaq Presario SR5233WM?

HP-Compaq Presario SR 5233WM PC, Windows Vista Edition Home Premium, drive HARD 250, 2.8 ghz and 2 GB of RAM now.   (from 2007ish)

The specification of State HP 2 GB document.  I've read elsewhere in their manual maybe says 4 GB, but I do not.

I checked the BIOS page and it shows only 2 slots for the Rams.

And ran scan from Crucial.com showing 2 GB as max.

Is it possible to add above stated max 2 GB?  This amount feels slow for this type of PC.  Impossible to find anywhere, any information on the website about it.

Is there a device that can fix somehow, that would take more memory?

    Thank you very much.

    HP, welcome to the forum.

No, the motherboard is capable of supporting the 2 GB of memory. There is no way to add any device which will add memory, either.

  • Compaq Presario F730US RAM/OS issues

    Hello world!

I recently acquired a NICE Compaq Presario F730US laptop with a fresh install of Vista Home Premium. It seems to do very well, except for a few things, but people have been (literally, everyone) telling me I had to upgrade to Windows 7. That, I would be OK with this, as an upgrade to Windows 7 Edition Family Premium is $ 90 at Amazon at the moment, but I don't know if I have enough RAM.  I have 1 GB installed and want to install more, but the problem is, according to critical, most computer media is 2 GB, correct?  I mean, that seems to be enough to run Vista properly, (he does well on 1 GB, honestly, but Aries is anywhere between 50 and 90%, usually + 80% with running programs), but I read that Windows 7 requires 1 GB to run by itself.  If this is the case, 2 GB seems worth enough (Vista is a 32-bit operating system installed here, and 7 would be so 32-bit) this laptop can be used more than 2 GB?  I don't know why they are "limited" on the RAM, appears as a type of thing is really not necessary to limit. If 2GB is the absolute most it may take, 2 GB will work Vista Edition Home Premium, or is it better to leave with Vista? I heard a lot of horror stories about Vista, while everyone else seems to love 7. I checked the Support/Drivers section, and there has not been an update of the BIOS in almost 3 years, so this is the original that is currently on the computer.

    Thanks to you all.

p.s., while I am, can this laptop take a bigger hard drive?  250, 320 AND 500 GB?  Are there specific features in this category?

    Thank you.

Hi, you can install up to 2 GB of memory. I would stay with Vista just upgrade to the latest service pack.

You can also upgrade your drive hard the largest stay only available with the 5400 RPM.

The main problem in the Win7 upgrade will be device drivers

  • Problems with Compaq Presario 5BW220 RAM

This office is 8 years old and supposedly supports 512 MB memory SDRAM PC100.

Recently, I worked on this for my son-in-law.  It came with 64 MB of SDRAM PC100 and Windows Millennium Edition.  I tried to install 2-256 MB memory SDRAM PC133 maximum amount supported RAM, but it refused to start.  I replaced every 256 MB module with a 128 MB PC100 module and managed to do start.  I expected to read 384, but he will read only 256 MB.  I had not all PC100 256 MB modules to use.  I finally installed modules from 2 to 128 MB PC100 and he left like that.

I never had a problem in the past with an old desk accepting a combination of PC100 and PC133 modules, so it was a first for me.

The Compaq Presario 5BW220 have a problem with the acceptance of this combination, and she actually says a maximum of 512 MB?

This could be useful in the future:

    http://www.crucial.com/

If you click "scan my system" he can tell you all sorts of things on the RAM.

I have a system built home (with all the paperwork by moving the boxes...) who had a chip spoil.  I could not remember what RAM took it and I didn't go root through the boxes in the garage. =)

Their scanning system could not see what kind of memory I had, but he told me exactly what my motherboard could support. (Type and max of 1 GB per slot)  He even suggested several configurations of memory.

Once I saw what he said, he had, I remembered that I had bought before and it didn't fit.

My friend's computer is out of memory so that she can't play a game with us. She has need of more memory so I want to upgrade the RAM, but I'm not sure which one to buy.

    Mousu, welcome to the forum.

This is memory that is recommended by HP to be compatible with its motherboard:

    • Dual channel memory architecture

  • Compaq presario s3040se RAM

Im a freelance tech and I am in the middle of giving up a compaq presario s3040se customers a melody so to speak.

IM goin to update modules memory live, a couple gig. I can't find a manual or a set of specifications that have ALL the info I need. It's my first HP, and I guess that ive been spoiled to work with ASUS prouducts as there is a lot of information online.

so, from what I gathered, the MB has two DDR SD slots. He now has a module of 256 MB in the first slot and a total capacity of unspecificed module in the second. The second module is marked "64 MB", and I know that this unit uses int. Intel XGP, which share up to 64 MB of system ram. I want to get at least 1 GB, if it is not not the 2gig maximum MB of ram new in this unit. With the 'shared memory ram' im reluctant to replace the two modules. Ive found some info out there, but a large part upwards is indicated as being compatible with s3040se-b, and as previously indicated my model is a s3040se. Anyone know the difference between models >?  I have to do something different from the upgrade of my ram, where it is shared?

any input will be appreciated thanks

    Hello

The following link shows the specifications of this machine:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00005384

It came with only "256 MB DDR SDRAM" and you can upgrade to 2 GB. It has 2 slots/banks and a slot open (free). Now you can move on to 2 GB, 1 GB each slot/Bank. You can buy RAM from the following reliable supplier:

    http://www.crucial.com/EU/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/Presario/Presario+S3040SE-upgrades.html

or use the information (including the price) to buy elsewhere.

    Kind regards.

  • What is the maximum RAM for each location dimm can support for desktop computers Compaq Presario CQ3541L?

I have a 32-bit ubuntu 12.04 OS installed on Compaq Presario CQ3541L desktop PC. Now, I want to update higher along 64-bit ubuntu 12.04 OS memory RAM. I want to know what is the maximum size of the main memory that each DIMM DDR3 slot can support. I need at least 8 GB of RAM since the apps I run will consume as much as 6.5 GB and probably more.

    Thank you.

Yes, that's the conclusion I came to.  You can always try to see what is actually happening.  I had a different motherboard (again a HP) which had similar limitations except his max was total 2 GB, and he saw 4 GB very well.   They make a slightly different version of this Board with 4 memory locations, instead of both yours has, then who knows until you experimant.

  • Presario sg-3320il: upgrade of RAM Compaq presario sg-3320IL

    Hello

My office - compaq presario sg3320il originally supplied with 1 GB ddr2 RAM (2 x 512 MB sticks). I bought a 2 GB Transcend DDR2 800 Mhz RAM stick (model number: JM800QLU - 2G). It worked perfectly when I removed the old sticks pre-installed and added this new RAM stick only (IE, with a total of 2 GB of memory). I bought another stick of 2 GB of RAM - same brand, same frequency, same model number too and now when that is added with the older 2 GB of RAM, it does not work properly. Some weird appears on the start screen for half the time and sometimes when I restart the system, he gets up to system boot and then hangs or restarts.

The two 2 GB RAM when used only work perfectly. Product specifications are here as well as the news of upgrade memory - http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/Compaq-Presario-SG3320IL-Desktop-PC/3697170/model/3707607/docume...

    Help, please

    Hello again @kau_shik_51094,

In the case of 2 RAM sticks not even work together, I suspect that the slot on your motherboard is damaged.

Really, there may be another explanation that your computer works with both sticks independently of each other, but not together and since they are the exact same it leaves only the motherboard as the problem.

I hope this helps. Thanks again for your post on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
