Access files stored on an external hard drive

Before you travel, I backed up my computer on an external hard drive.  No, I'm trying to access files that have been backed up from my computer using another computer. What should I do if I only want to choose some files, but do not want to restore all of the files on the other computer...?

The options that I consider "valid" are "restore files".

Hi bitters,

What backup program to back up the files you used?

If the backup and restore windows refer to this article:

    Hello Nyfixen,

    1. have you changed the permission for the external hard drive or files you are trying to copy?

    2. you have all important data (files) stored on the external hard drive?

    3. are you able to copy the external hard drive to the computer?

The Autorun.inf could not be a problem for that. It always seems to be a problem of permission for me. Some hard drives have a jumper on them for write protection. You should check the configuration of jumpers, thank you consult the manual that came with the hard drive for permissions.

  • Unable to access the data stored on an external hard drive

Just a checkup was done on my computer that required all my data to be deleted and the original settings restored. My backup files are on an external hard drive Western Digital Elements. Since the health check, my computer recognized the hardware connection when I connect the external hard drive, but the drive does not appear in 'my computer '. I cannot access my saved files. How can I fix the problem so that I can access very important data on the external hard drive? NB. I tried to update the driver concerned, but get the message "cannot find a driver that is higher than already installed.

    Hi Fairhurd,

It is without doubt the antivirus software or security that comes pre-installed on the computers factory image.

I suggest you uninstall all the trial security software (McAfee, Zone Alarm, etc) that your not use to see if it helps.

  • The data stored on the external hard drive recovery

    Hello

Recently, my PC got corrupted and told me to save my data on an external hard drive before doing a reformat on my PC. In fact, all my data was saved when I update. A few months ago, in may 2014, I backed up my data in the drive C under the section 'My Document ' and also registered in my external hard drive as a backup. Thus, in June, July & the first 2 weeks of August 2014, I updated some data and stored in the 'My documents' file in the C drive. My PC got corrupted last week and told me to do a reformat as a last resort. Before that, I saved all my data (especially my Word & Excel) for my external hard drive to the file 'My Document '. After that the reformatting was made, I downloaded all required applications and try to remove my Excel file, which has the external hard drive, but the data were NOT the updated file, but the file that has been saved 3 months ago!

So, how can I recover my file up to date which was recorded August 12, 2014, supposedly on my external hard drive, or could it be hidden somewhere in the "C drive"?

    Help, please!

    Thank you!

    Kind regards

Recovery of DNG issue: I have photos stored on an external hard drive which have previously been imported into Lightroom and converted to DNG.  The laptop on which I was running Lightroom died and I had to replace the hard drive and rebuild the computer.  In the process of my Lightroom program and catalog related to these images have been lost.  When I re-associate these photos with my new installation of Lightroom and a new catalogue is there a way to retrieve the keywords or other changes or metadata catalogue Mountaga?  Is any of this information embedded with the imge DNG file or was it only in the cataloght lost on my failing hard drive? I re-import just as if it were new images with no prior treatment of Lightroom?

By default, LR saves all changes in the catalog, and that applies to any type of file.

Optionally, you can save changes to the file as well, for raw files owners, this will create a xmp file - for DNG that changes are going to be cooked in the file, without additional xmp file.

But it does not default. Go to the catalog and parameters under the control of metadata automatically save changes to XMP.

Unless you do this, the changes are saved only in the catalog.

    Hope this makes things clearer.

How can I identify the name of the invisible file for a backup file successfully to an external hard drive USB2 separate?  I use Windows Vista backup program (Service Pack 2), and I need to do backups plus two from other computers on the same external hard drive.  To do this, I think I would need to identify each backup file separate I know which file to specify if I need to do a restore.

How can I accomplish this? The program does not seem to give me the ability to specify a file to which to write the backup during a given session files.  In addition, I do not understand why I can not see the file name in Windows Explorer - my files options are defined to be able to view hidden and system.  Would be grateful for any help you can provide, tonight if possible.   Best regards, Oliver for Norm

How to get files from a backup external hard drive for windows 7 pro. ? I DON'T WANT TO RESTORE WINDOWS 7, JUST MY PHOTOS & DOCUMENTS.    TO THANK THE TAXI 53 DRIVER

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

You can restore backed up files lost, damaged, or accidentally modified versions. You also to restore files individual, groups of files, or all files that you have saved.

If you are restoring files from a backup that was made on another computer, the files are restored in a folder under the user name that was used to create the backup. If the user names are different, you must navigate to the folder where the files are restored.

I suggest you use the steps in this article and check if it helps.

  • How can I access the old (outlook 2003) emails stored on an external hard drive

When I try to open outlook 2003 I get the message "the operating system is not currently configured to run this application

If Outlook 2003 itself (connected application) does not work?

Office 2003 (which would be included in Outlook 2003) is compatible with Windows 7 (the forum in which you posted).

If you have Outlook 2003 is installed - it should be able to open unless the installation is corrupted in some way - in this case, you need to re - install and update the application from the original installation and the Internet media (in that order).

Once you are able to open Outlook 2003 once again, then you can try to open what I understand, it is an external hard drive PST (granted the file PST is NOT in a read-only State and is compatible with Outlook 2003 and is not corrupt anything either.)

  • To access the other account via external hard drive

MacBook Pro (13 inch, early 2011)

    V.10.11.6 El Capitan (15G 31)

To summarize what I've lived, I got a kernel panic, by connecting to any account. So I tried to fix it by zapping the PRAM and NVRAM, tried the reset SMC, and both did not work. So I installed El Capitan on my external hard drive and it works, I just need to access the other account on the Mac to recover photos and then do a clean set install.

The problem is that I do not know how to access the other account on the mac like I did not move any info from another acc to my external hard drive. Is it possible to do more than to reconfigure my HD post and return to the new installation procedure? Or I'm able to get pictures on the other account with the photo software?

Open the drive containing, then the folder users, your record of departure, and photos. If you encounter a file that you don't have access permission, either drag it to the office supply your administrator password, or select the entire disk, choose get the information in the file menu and set to ignore permissions or ownership.

  • How do I move files HD internal to external hard drive

My internal HD has about 21 remaining G that prevents me from creating a slide show with music.  I anticipate the purchase of an external hard drive to free up space on my internal HD, which automatically backs up everything.  I would also like to delete some of the files are no longer needed.  I think that some of my iTune files have been left out due to lack of space.  It seems that every time that I have access to my iTunes library that it backs up the session, and that means there are layers of libraries being backed up.  I don't want to remove the original library and I noticed that there are layers of folders previous library, previous library eating.  I do not know the importance of these and do not want to recover as much of my iTunes library I can.

Just drag and drop. Nothing more complex than that, of course, you will have to format the external hard drive first using disk utility. The Mac OS extended (journaled) format and then drag and drop.

  • Why don't my raw in iphoto files transfer on an external hard drive in the form of successfully raw files?

    Hello

I use a mac in mid-2007, 10.7.5 mini system. I use iPhoto for my photo files only. I recently shot a family, the RAW files. When you try to transfer these RAW files and keep them in the form of RAW files on an external hard drive, the files themselves simply to the jpg. did someone knows how I can get these RAW files off my hard drive to an external hard drive, but keep them RAW and their original size? Thanks much for any guidance you may have. -bethsongs

TO export RAW files you select them in iPhoto and export (menu, file == > export) using the type is an original option - see export from iPhoto for more details on the options

as to get them off you primary drive - you can't, unless you remove them form iPhoto and empty iPhoto trash and trash system - iPHoto must always have access to the original to work

  • How to restore file .bkf on an external hard drive to a xp computer

I have an external hard drive with a file bkf windows server - backed up on another computer and I need to access the data. The machine that I'm trying to restore is a Mac running XP

    Hello

You can restore files from a BKF file on an external hard drive on the computer by using the Windows XP Backup Wizard. The Backup Wizard is installed by default in Windows XP Professional, but not in XP Home. XP Home users can install it from an installation of Windows XP Edition family CD.

Follow the steps mentioned below and check if the problem persists.

    a. install the backup on Windows XP Edition family Wizard, if it is not installed. Record of the family place of the Windows XP Setup CD in the hard disk of the computer and install the wizard by clicking "Start", click "My computer," double-click the CD icon in the window my computer, double-click the "ValueAdd", by double-clicking on the folder "Msft", by double-clicking "Ntbackup" and clicking on "NTBackup.msi."

    b. connect the external hard drive to the computer.

    c. open the Backup Wizard by clicking on "Start", "All programs", "Accessories," "System Tools" and "Backup".

    d. click "Next" in the Welcome window.

    e. click "Restore files and settings", then click "next".

    f. click "Browse" in the window "to restore", click "Browse" in the "Open file Backup" window, click on 'My Computer', double-click the hard drive and double-click the BKF file.

    g. click the boxes left the files desired under "What to restore," then click "next".

    h. start the transfer by clicking on "Finish".

    i. click 'Close' when prompted.

  • Unable to access video clips of the external hard drive

I've been using PE9 for six to nine months.  My normal workflow was to create a separate project on a 500g external hard drive. This file contains all the video clips (.mov files) and the Project.PREL file.

This great worked until recently.  I can bring is no longer the .mov clips in the project schedule or sceenline from the hard disk.  By using the command 'Get Meda' a 'unfinished' file is downloaded, and when I try to drag the clip to the timeline, the program asks me where the file. Something has changed - and I don't know what or how to fix it.

    PRE_Project.png

The image above comes from a project where I'm having this problem.  The clips that have images in them are downloaded from my portable hard drive.  Others come from my external hard drive - and those are the ones that the program cannot "locate."  That's what I'm trying to figure out how to fix it.  Yet once, this suddenly started happening - so somehow I changed something, I think.

The same clips can be imported when they are stored on my hard drive.  When I try to import them when stored on a video card, the video importer PRE opens and I can bring them to the program in this way.  However, these are not viable alternatives for me.

So what has changed, I can't determine.  Is there a setting, codec or something that I can study that this would cause? As I said, this just started happening?

In addition, some previous projects to open correctly and some may not find the files - even if they are all stored on the same HD 500 g.

    Help, please.

This ARTICLE will give you some general tips on editing of external HARD drives.

My first guess would be just like John T - outside drive letter has changed in the operating system.
