  Inherited this machine recently and I was wondering if I can upgrade the hard drive.  He got a Hitachi DK23BA-15 which is ATA - 66.  But I read that the chipset of the motherboard will be ' interface with ATA/66 hard drives in UDMA 2 mode "-a description of the site intel (North 82443BX/South 82371EB).  Intel® 440BX AGPset.

  It's a record of 4200 RPM 15 gigabytes. You can use any portable player of up to 120 gig eide, but not anymore. Anyway, you would benefit from a rotational speed of 5400 RPM which is what you can find in the market these days, but will not improve your ATA - 66 maximum transfer speed. The most recent ATA - 100 or 133 readers interfacera just at the speed of 66 but faster speed of rotation of the drive will always access same time help lower transfer speed if that makes sense.

  Use it as it is. Why update the drive? If you run lack of storage space on the disk, delete some files or get an external drive and move some files on the external drive. Make sure that you back up your data.

  You can certainly move to a 750 GB 5400 RPM HARD drive, a 1 TB would also be possible, but it is not listed as a compatible hdd in a service guide. After a reset, the laptop will be in the same condition that you used for the first time (OS preinstalled). The recovery partition is going to be on the hard drive as well.   I have an IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad R51e with a 40 GB hard drive. I'll soon be at the limit of ability, and I think to upgrade the hard drive.

  My laptop is under warranty until May 2009, says I guess some of you maybe understand my dilemma. Even the technology IBM says it was a difficult call. He suggested an external drive, but I really wanted to do as it would go against how I personally use my laptop.

  He gave me a 80 GB hard drive part number 13N6709 (it is the biggest hard drive I can go internally with the R51e) which will cost me $261,00

  I tried looking for answers to these questions, but the more I read more my head began to spin.

  There are a few questions (with the help of the people in this forum) I'm eager to know before investing more money in this laptop.

  Do I need other parts to install the new HDD?

  The Pro Windows XP was preinstalled by IBM/Lenovo. It will recognize my serial number to install it?

  All my recovery disks will still work with the new hard drive? Or do I have to buy a new game?

  I'd be better to just buy a new laptop?

  If, therefore, for those knowing what are the features that are on the R51e IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad would get the most bangs for the bucks?

  I want to switch the HARD disk like this I hope that the computer runs faster.  I'm a complete novice with respect to the operation of computers.  What to buy to upgrade the HARD drive?

  Will it also upgrade the installed memory?  If so, what to do?

  Try for battery HP to THE Bing search engine, I found several sites in line with the Chargers and batteries. BattDepot Australia seems to have decent prices...   -Reinstall XP restore disks media center

  -do a upgrade 'clean' for win 7 Home premium (64 bit?) from the disc "upgrading"

  The Windows 7 upgrade disk looks like for XP/Vista, so I can't put new hardware and go directly to a cost of Win 7 install.

  I understand the look of for the minimum size of disks restore disks.  All guess what SSD size would be the minimum? I guess the upgrade of the first hard drive and reinstall XP MC since the restore disks would be trivial (as opposed to their use after a motherboard replacement).  If I have XP MC on the SDS, it is only a reason any Win 7 no upgade SDS?

  If I install the SSD after upgrade to Windows 7, I guess I have to use something like a disk copy program to the boot from SSD HARD disk partition.  SUGESTIONS?

  Restoration of SKIP.  Move existing partitions of 250 and 500 GB drives to 750.  Update for Win 7.  Install an SSD.  Move the boot partition.  Use the same drive for both copy program?

  Am I missing something?

  In case anyone is wondering, I have a spare 750Go drive and the Windows 7 upgrade disk so the only "cost" of this update is to purchase the SSD (and if necessary disk copy program).

  Please read this article by Paul Thurrott more "Clean install Windows 7 with upgrade media '. It essentially says you can make a completely clean install on a drive with no operating system. The key is not to enter the COA product key after installation is complete. I, myself, installed Windows 7 to discs using disks 'upgrade' several times without problems of installation or activation. The order I do it with, is as follows:

  1 copy all the files and folders of the 250 and the 500 GB HDD of 750 GB.

  2. remove the 250 GB, 500 GB and 750 GB of computer hard drives.

  3. install the SSD.

  4. install Windows 7 on the SSD without entering the product key.

  5. Once finished Windows 7 installation, enter the product key and activate Windows.

  6. return old hard disks of computer as needed.

  7. install purchased software and Windows updates if necessary.

  You should go to 4 GB of RAM to get the most out of Windows 7 64 bit and you can upgrade your graphics card.

  Note: You will lose all software provided CVS Windows XP on your m7350n. Make sure that you create your HP recovery discs before you proceed with the change of equipment or install Windows 7. Your HP recovery disks can have the factory included HP software... it may or may not work with Windows 7. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

• Satellite U205-S5002: cannot retrieve the Express Media Player after upgrading the HARD drive

  So I bought just a new Toshiba Satellite U205-S5002 I love it. One of the great features that interest me was the Express Media Player feature.

  My first step was to upgrade the hard disk and 160 GB and 2 GB ram.
  I placed the disk and ram in my old laptop and sold it.

  Before that I did, I made a copy ghosts and ghost of the hard drive to the new drive. Well come to find out...

  Toshiba is not provided with this software preinstalled, so I followed the instructions to burn my recovery disk Express Media Player and the boot on the new disk.
  So this is where the saga begins...

  After 15-20 seconds, I get a soothing blue screen (NOT of blue BSOD you mind) who says:

  An error occurred during the recovery of "Express Media Player".
  -------------------------------------------------------
  Please pick up the image again from the beginning.
  Press any key to exit.

  It is typed exactly as it is on the screen. So, I see some other forums saying: you must have the free space of the disk so I resize the partition that allows 200 MB of space. Always the same... then try 2 GB even... then the 50 GB, same problem...

  OK, so obviously not a question of space. I read while I might need to erase the drive... so I delete the partition, this same error... then I run the recovery disk and tell him to wipe the drive, wait 1 1/2 hour, it ends. No dice! So I decide... ok... Well lets try another disk... I have restored my ghost image... and burned the image again... same question... so I decide to the recovery disk and I'll try to reinstall windows in the factory and make a record...

  Well, it does not work as well as you think... the image is incomplete... windows works fine... but the c:\Toshiba\ExpressMediaPlayer folder is empty!

  I'm happy that I have ghosts my original directory. But I decide allows to Express Media Player a shot more now that I have restored to factory... always the same error... I then decide a trial more... I'll erase drive 1.5 hours, I'll restore from toshiba dvd provided but leaving plenty of space at the end 2 GB (I have a lot about people who tell you to base just around 200 MB)

  5 hours later... moment of truth... Well Yes you guessed it... I don't know anything else to try... I have a bad image?
  You need one that I can download what has worked for them for sure? Or have - I have completely found myself by replacing the HDD with after market and which is originally a kind of compatibility issue?

  I put t know how to start so maybe first some info on the Express media player.

  Have an old HP dv6450 Notebook PC. Upgrading to Windows 7 about 2 years ago & it works great. Try to upgrade & increase the size of the hard drive, but when I bought a SATA drive it connect as the current. I found nobody at HP, Seagate or WD as to correct bought how. Everything I've found so far is my HARD drive slides down to install. New HARD drive must be engaged in a slot on the right. Help!

  You should be able to remove the adapter in black connector of your old HARD drive (which allows the disk HARD connect vertically) - first, remove the caddy as shown on Page 126 of your Service Guide & then remove the black connector.  Maybe it's a bit steep, but just keep accelerating it gently, then just good this (and caddy) of your new HARD drive.

  So, I have a machine with an SSD (Tecra M5) and it works like a charm. Unfortunately, the discs are too expensive at the moment but you can benefit from a real performance.

  Regarding your question: should be possible. You have a 1.8 inch drive "installed and there are SSDS which have almost the same form factor. Usually the U100 was delivered with MK6006GAH or MK3006GAL disks.

  The product you have listed will work fine on your macbook pro. But you must be aware that the hard disk you have in mind is NOT pure SSD,.

  It is a 'hybrid' SSD + HDD, it is much cheaper than a 500GB SSD habit. for example, the samsung EVO 850 costs $150.

  The hybrid approach basically means a great 'flash memory' (in seagate device is 8 GB) is built into the hard drive.

  and smart algorithms runs in this regard to cache your files frequently used in this flash memory is faster than a traditional HARD drive.

  It is still until you think is best for you.

  HARD drive upgrade is possible on each unit. The HARD disk must be placed under the optical media drive. Optical media drive is fixed with a screw on the underside. Remove this screw and you will be able to opt out of the Bay.

  HARD disk itself is fixed by four screws.

  Please don't do anything if you n t have experience with it, because everything you do to yourself is at your own risk.

  I use a 80 GB hard drive in my SA30 and I suspect it would probably work with a 100 GB drive. However, as portable hard drives tend to suffer ruptures busiest I think their close office 80 GB is perfectly o.k. for me. I tend to have 25-30 GB used with the rest of the temporary files during editing of the videos etc. The hard drive in the A30 is usually under the optical drive to remove all first in order to access the hard drive.

  Your A30 can be upgraded to a maximum of 2 GB of RAM in two slots. Currently, you will have 2 X 128 MB or 2 X 256 MB modules of RAM installed.   Toshiba unfortunately do not provide regular updates to their display drivers (at least in my experience). Like you, I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000IGP in my SA30 and I resorted to a driver Omega catalyst in order to play newer games. I ran this Omega driver for many months now with still no Bul.   You must select your own model. I prefer Samsung, Western Digital and Seagate in that order.

  You will need a 9.5 mm, 6.35 cm (2.5) SATA hard drive.

  Instructions on replacing the hard drive are here. Either make sure you can locate your serial or usb disk recovery recovery media before what. If you are an experienced user, you will have an image of your hard drive and the original scores. I use Paragon software to keep the disk images on my NAS for cloning and emergency situations.
