  • Hard drive failure: have a few questions!

    Some info about my computer:
    • Toshiba Satellite laptop P755
    • There was more than one year
    • Windows 7 Home Edition Premium came with the laptop.
    Hello
In the last few days I received an error saying that my hard drive can fail at any time, and for this reason, I have to back up my files. I run that a full backup as Windows Error Message had recommended that I do, but instead I just backed up my important files on a USB key. Finally, I know that my hard drive will fail, and at this point I am waiting. I am looking to buy a new HDD replacement , but I have a few questions that NEED to know before you proceed with the replacement of my current hard drive. Since I'm getting a new hard drive, should I buy a new key to activate Windows 7? Under my laptop, I have a Windows 7 Home Premium product key and my friend said that I will be able to borrow his Windows 7 Home Premium CD to install the operating system on my new hard drive. So do I still need to buy a new copy of Windows 7? I looked around forums and some people responded by saying that I won't need to buy a new copy of Windows 7 and when I install Windows on the new drive, it will be recognized that I had a genuine Windows 7 operating system. I had also heard tell that if I turned off my key using CMD, then I could re - use my key to install Windows. That's really all that I have questions, and I hope that this gets answered. Thank you.
I also ran a scan through my hard drive and here are the results.

    Hello

When the new drive arrives and it is installed, you shouldn't have any problems activating you replace just the hard drive and not the motherboard. The motherboard is what is important in the main OEM installations. If you have a COA sticker at the bottom of the laptop, or elsewhere, it will be what you use to activate Windows.

If you have however poorly (you shouldn't), don't panic, just follow the phone activation method and you will be straightened out:

    1. start > Search > in the search box, type slui.exe 4

    2. press the key "enter".

    3. Select your country in the list

    4. choose the phone Activation

    5. stay on the phone and wait for an operator to help you, do not press the buttons, etc. Once you get an operator, explain your activation trouble and you should be set.

  • Need new hard drive, but have not the disks in Windows 7 OS

Recently, I had some problems with my PC and was able to restore the factory settings.  Now it seems that my hard drive is bad and needs to be replaced.  I have a HP G71-449WM model, produces WA606UA.

Will it also find Windows 7 OS disks somewhere?  I didn't need one when I did the restore to factory.

It's the hard drive, which I intend to purchase:

    Hello

First of all, the HARD drive in your link is fine, even if you can consider a slightly faster (7200 RPM) - for example, either of the drives on the following links would be very well for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

    750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 64 of your & Maintenance Guide.

    ***************************************************

Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system on the new drive, there are two options available.

    1. you can order a set of replacement recovery disks using the link below - it will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).  They will also recreate all of the original scores, including the recovery Partition.

    Order HP recovery disks.

2 another option that you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the Disk Image correct ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn offerings) to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write that an ISO on a disc is here.  The source of the Windows Image is Digital River.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1.

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

You may need, additional drivers and software are here.

Yes, the recovery disks installing Vista and original software/drivers on a new hard drive. Just be sure to get a hard drive at least as large as the original capacity. It may be big, but not small ability more. I wouldn't go with one of the new large capacity hdd format advanced however.

Yes you can.  Your existing set of recovery disks will not only install the operating system on the new hard drive, but will also reinstall all of the original software that came with your laptop as well as re - create the Partition D of recovery on the new drive.

  • Office p6680t - hard drive failure

I have a friend who owns the HP p6680t office.  I gave 3 recovery disks.  She had a hard drive failure.  I replace the hard drive.

3 recovery disks really work on a hard drive that has no o/s?  She had Win7, I believe, on the hard drive that crashed.  If so, can I start with disk 1 or 3?

Thanks for all tips and information.

    Hello

The recovery disks will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office) on the new drive.  They will also recreate all of the original scores, including the recovery Partition.

Start with 1 disc and insert following disks when you are prompted by the recovery process - see the HP document on the following link.

  • I have a Compaq Persario CQ50 - 109CA which is indicating "imminent hard drive failure.

I have an app Compaq Persario CQ50 - 109CA, running on Windows Vista, which is indicating "Hard drive failure" imminent

    I backed everything up.

I restarted the computer and started running the Hard Drive Self Test in the BIOS.  The quick test passed but 4 minutes in the next test, the computer will stop.  This has happened 4 times now.

I can restart normally, and the computer seems to work very well.

This means that the hard drive requires replacement indeed?

The sectors more means worse condition. My classmate has 134 of them and can not start at all. Buy a new hard drive.

Reallocated sectors count means that these areas cannot be used and the data is transferred to another area of the hard drive. This means a physical damage on the hard disk trays. The hard drive may be working again, but may also fail at any time completely...

  • Pavilion g6-1118TX: reported hard drive failure

    Hello people of the community.

Recently, I get a message indicating an imminent hard drive failure during startup. I just wanted to know how I can solve the problem and how to buy a hard drive and the same difficulty. The issue seems to affect the cranking up the speed of the laptop. I would be grateful if you can give an approximate value of your new hard drive and the different options available (eg.1TB, 750GB etc.) for PAVILION g6-1118TX model number. Also suggest would be interesting to buy a new hard drive and move or search for improving the system of newer models.

Waiting for your reply at the earliest.

    Hi @ra1791!

I'm sorry to say this, but such errors are indicating that the drive is about to fail, then the best option in this case will be to replace it with another unit. If the product is still under warranty, you can contact support, but in case you have no guarantee and you would like a guide to replacing the hard drive you can you take a look at the manual page, user 46:

    Compatible spare disks are also.

I hope this helps and good luck!

  • Satellite A210 - 1 4 - possible signs of a hard drive failure

    Hello

I use a Toshiba Satellite A210 - 1 4 and think that the hard drive may be showing signs of failure.

    _The symptoms are: _

    * While the Windows 7 boot frequently stops at 'Starting Windows' screen (before the Windows logo appeared) and all HARD drive activity stops meaning a hard reset is necessary to bring him back.

    * When I unplug the power cord on Windows 7, the computer freezes usually with nothing happens and stop any HARD drive activity, once again a hard reset is required to bring back to life.

What are these early signs of HARD drive failure or is there something else wrong?

    Hey Buddy,

For me it doesn t look like the HARD drive malfunction if Windows 7 stops when starting or freezes when you unplug the AC adapter

Have you already tried to reinstall the operating system? It could be the software problem.

If you still want to check your drive HARD uses a disk HARD Drive Fitness Test as a diagnostic tool. It s freeware so you can find it if you search on Google.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline S5: Internal HARD drive failure, PC does not start

Drive HARD internal of my HP Pavilion Slimline S5 failed and died recently (bought in 2011). My HP warranty is long gone.

The splash screen has shown this message:

1720-SMART hard detects an imminent failure

Due to lack of player: SATA0

    Failed attributes: # 05

I have several questions about this:

    1. Is it only caused by HARD drive failure? I want to replace it myself, but I don't really know if there are other parts to replace. Or it will be better to bring it to the computer shop to do carefully check?
    2. I can replace it with Seagate Barracuda 3.5 "(7200 RPM, 1 TB, SATA 3 or 6)? I think that the current HARD drive is Hitachi.
    3. I still need to transfer Windows OEM once the HARD drive is replaced?

    Thanks in advance.

According to the packing of the Seagate, it might come with the software.  But if it is OEM drive then found the software by clicking HERE.  In general, I use a USB adapter for hard drive to clone if the PC will not support an additional drive.  Given that a number of incomplete model for the PC, it is difficult to find accurate info, but the Pavilion Slimline S5 I checked all have a motherboard with additional SATA ports.  Just have a spare SATA cable and power on the power port and try the cloning software.  Make sure that the drive is not touch a conductive element.  Usually, I place the additional reader on a cardboard box.

Install the new drive as a replacement for the existing drive and connect everything as it is now.  Then connect the old drive in the manner discussed.  Boot from the CD created with cloning tools.  If the old drive is cloned stll, then when the software is finished, remove the old drive connections to see if the drive can start the computer.  If this is not successful, try to run the recovery screen (F11) BIOS boot manager.  If that does not work, use the Recovery DVD set brand when the computer was new.  If you did this, or lost them, then see THATto order a series.

  • Satellite C855-1GQ - warning of hard drive failure

    Hello

Suddenly my laptop started to show me "hard drive failure warnings" and honestly, I have no idea what it takes to this topic please someone can help me.

Symptom: The PredictFailure flag is set on the disk
Cause: A logical disk has the failure to predict SMART bit set.
Details: This disc is facing a problem and predicted that the drive will fail

    Symptom: failure
Cause: A device reported 'Not OK' status.
Details: The device, hard drive, reports a value of bad condition. This device won't be available until the problem is resolved. The Plug and Play ID for this device is \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0.

My advice is to make data backup and contact the nearest Toshiba service as soon as possible. They can help you with it. Warranty is valid also if they want to replace the HARD drive it will be free of charge.

  • Satellite L655D-011-HDD/SSD Alert, HARD drive failure?

I have an old L655D-011 of 6 months and yesterday it started to appear with the message to back up my files because there is a problem with my HARD drive. Well, after having a technical support in the past, I don't give that easily and simply run my laptop to the nearest authorized service center. Instead, I help out.

I did the BIOS update finally. No change in question.
Finally had time to create a recovery media. No problem with that at all.
I reformatted. No change in question.
Checked the health monitor. It shows that my HARD drive is "good". Yet, when I double-click the icon, I get a pop - up with the following message:

    "Toshiba HDD/SSD Alert."

    Disk0

Your HARD drive is SMART failure to predict which monitors the status of operation of the HARD drive. Your HARD drive is facing a problem and CHIP controlling the software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a back-up to the date of your HARD drive. Contact an authorized service provider to check your drive and buy a new replacement if necessary. »

So, after that I decided to run a CHKDSK /f /r. Result: 'windows replaced bad clusters in file name \hiberfil.sys 44990.'

I should be good to go, right? N ° same problem with the precaution of backing up my files.

But this isn't good, is it? If my HARD drive is about to fail why monitor health show that everything is "good"? There is no problem with gel, pxe.boot errors, rattling disc, unusual vibrations or read/write failures.

So, my questions (after all the above and see other threads to ask questions about HARD drive failure messages) are: were there any known issues where the SMART software does not work correctly? Are failure drives hard all from the same manufacturer (I've seen this happen - get a bad batch of a single manufacturer HARD drive)? The health monitor working correctly?

In my opinion your questions cannot be answered simply.
    > Are there any known issues where the SMART software does not work correctly?
How many people must confirm that they have the same problem? I guess this happens from time to time, but you cannot say that this problem is known.
You will always find people who noticed the same issue and not on Toshiba forum only, but on all the forums where people discuss cell phones in general.
    > Is the disk failure hard all from the same manufacturer (I've seen this happen - get a bad batch of a single manufacturer HARD drive)?
How to check or confirm this?

You know, during the first backup all your important data, watch carefully what happens the next few days. If the info appears again and again, contact the nearest service Toshiba and let them Exchange the HARD drive.
The guarantee is valid and it will be free of charge.

  • Satellite L300 - made HARD drive failure?

    Hello

I have a Satellite L300 age of 4 years (under Vista) who is suddenly suspended frequently.
A bit of investigation leads me to think that it is a hard drive failure.
Basically, chkdsk/r crashes at step 4. Disk defragmentation also blocks.

I can start safe mode, and it seems to work ok.
Is not an expert, could someone tell me if I jump to the wrong conclusion?
Y at - it a diagnostic tool to specific hard drive from Toshiba that I could use?

If the standard duration for these hard drives 4 years?

Finally, when a hard drive crashes, it's just the specific physical areas that are illegible? or will it progessively spread and worsen very quickly?

And I have everything backed up if not concerned about data loss but I was wondering about the short-term future.

Thank you for any advice and provided thoughts.

    > Is there a diagnostic tool to specific hard drive from Toshiba that I could use?

You can use another tool of diagnosis of HARD disk as disk HARD Drive Fitness Test.
This freeware tool that allows you to scan the HARD drive.

This software creates a diagnostic boot disk and you will need to boot from this drive to run the test.

    > Finally, when a hard drive fails, is it only specific physical areas that are illegible? or will gradually expand and worsen very quickly?

HARD drive problems are always difficult.
In most cases if the HARD drive crashes, you will be able to access files stored on the HARD drive.
But different COMPUTER experts would still be able to recover files lost with special tools. But in most cases, these rescue operations are expensive and cost a lot of money.
