Activate an OEM of Vista on another computer?

original title: xp or vista

Hello! I have a pc that I built myself XP and a VISTA pc I bought 3-4 years ago. Now, I want to build a more powerful PC by using one of the two operating systems that I have. The XP cd operating system was purchased from the FRY, and the VISTA pc came with its own recovery cd. That we can use and activate? I'm ready to give up using one of the two PCs I use at the moment. I know that I can move the drives around, but I would like to install XP or VISTA on my new HDD 500 GB, with 8 GB of RAM and 4 cores AMD 965 PKU! Thanking you in advance, Marian!

Recovery of Vista is OEM. No possible activation in the other computer.

Your XP is the retail box? If so, format the old Pc and install PC again.

If problem, active telephone activation and explain the old Pc is not in use.

  • Pre-installed Vista CD computer Dell laptop allows you to install Vista on another computer of dell desktop originally pre-installed with XP?

    Hello.

Have an old dell desktop with XP.
Have a new computer dell laptop with Vista.

    Both came pre-installed.
Both came with a CD to reinstall Windows.

Am I allowed to install Vista from that original CD on the desktop?
I did, then you have the problem (not genuine copy of Vista). I have since reinstalled Vista, but before I completely setting up the office, once again, I want to make sure that I am able to do this (do not want the new not genuine error).

    Specific questions:
    1. am I allowed to use portable CD to install Vista on another computer?
    2. If so, that must be done to ensure the "not genuine" error can't?

    Thanks for any help.

Reference Dell binds their records to their motherboards.

If your computer is pre-installed with Vista, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.

The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

And a Vista license = a Vista Installation.

  • Installation of Windows Vista to another computer after a course upgraded to Windows 7?

I upgraded my new computer Windows 7 I can intall windows vista on the old computer?

If your Vista is a "Retail" version, so yes with the following restrictions: 1) If your old PC as has a previous operating system (e.g. Windows XP), then you can use the "Upgrade" to Vista version. (2) If you old computer has no previous OS, then you need the 'Full' product version of Vista.

However if you have a version of Vista OEM (which comes preinstalled with the computer), it can be moved/installed on another computer, as the OEM versions are linked to the first computer on which they are installed.

You cannot use the copy of Windows 7, which is preinstalled on your computer. License OEM Windows 7 which is what is installed on your computer is not transferable. To install Windows 7 on your Mac, you will need to buy a license to sale separate full version retail:

If you use a license of operating system vista as part of an upgrade, it is related to the new upgrade license

You can use it NOT then install vista on another computer when it is used in the installation as part of this upgrade

  • Activate a GENUINE windows XP installed on another computer

    Hello

My father has recently upgraded to a laptop with Windows 7, but misses his old games which are not compatible. I have rebuilt successfully his old vista laptop on Windows XP (better compatibility) but it requires activation and the code I have does not work.

It has the Windows XP as it came with a laptop even earlier, but I think that automation can detect, it has been used on the computer as soon as possible.

Any of you know how I do it to get Microsoft to recognize that it is is no longer using the old laptop and wants to instead use Windows XP on this newer model?

He holds the license for the software as surely he has the right to install (only) on any machine as he wants?

The laptop that I installed XP is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo LI 1718.
The version of Windows XP, there is no service pack (it is so old!) but I have installed all updates until and including SP3.

If you need any other information to answer let me know, I can provide a report dxdiag etc.

Thanks to all who can help out me!

You can move the windows on a new computer

If it's a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on one computer at a time (and if it's a version upgrade the new Windows computer must have its own license of qualification). The previous Windows installation on your old computer must be formatted or deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer.

If it's an OEM license - don't. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.

  • Am I allowed to use my old set of vista from my previous laptop on another computer?

I want that my new laptop using windows 7 and vista.

My previous laptop with vista on broke and some of my software is not compatible with windows 7. I use therefore alternately operating two systems depending on what software I want to run. Am I allowed to use my old vista from my previous laptop series?  or am I expected to buy yet another... on my 12 Windows version!

If your old installation of Vista was an OEM one, it cannot be moved to the new computer - if it was a copy of the retail, you are allowed to re - activate on the new computer.

If Vista was preinstalled on your old computer, it is licensed OEM, who died with the computer.

  • HP: unlock OEM windows 7 for use with another computer?

    Hello

I recently got a HP computer with an OEM windows installation 7. After the machine (fatal hardware failure), I tried to use the windows key to install it on another computer. However, the key is an OEM product and would not activate, so after talking to microsoft they sent me here to ask if the manufacturer could "unlock" the key for use with another computer (that I build from scratch).

So all this possible? Or do I have to buy a new license?

Okay, Ive talked to HP and microsoft and it turns out that the key has been blocked (pirates). So much for the purchase of second hand.

  • Is it legal to use and the version of Windows XP OEM from an old computer (to be retired) to the lower-grade a Vista to XP computer?

(I have a few Win XP computers running the great. And I like Win XP.)

    Here's the situation:

I have also a Vista computer and a very very old computer Win XP.  This computer very very old win XP has been in the dust of basement collection and will be sent to the recycling center.

    Question:

The two Vista and old Win XP computers came with the OEM version of windows.  (Not the retail version.)

Is it legal to use the Windows XP from this very old (to be retired) computer to down-grade the Vista to XP computer?

(Will do that if it is not legal.)

    Thank you

Sorry, no. You cannot move an OEM license on another computer.

  • I moved my hard drive to another computer and once connected to windows told me that I need to activate windows?

Once logged into windows, it tells me that I need to activate windows. I click Yes to activate and it tells me that windows is already activated, click OK and it returns me to my log in page over and over. Why? and what to do about it?

Because you are allowed to install and activate Windows on ONE computer and product activation has now determined that you try to use the installation on another computer.  If it is a retail version of Windows XP and if you move the installation to new hardware call Microsoft and explain the problem.  If it is an OEM version, like a Dell or HP installation and if you move it to another computer that you are to the top of the Creek with this, you are not allowed to move an installation OEM on another computer, it is linked to the computer on which it was sold with and he will die with this computer.

  • Can I transfer my OEM license on another computer and throwing away the old pc?

I have 2 old PC without any hardware in them with the product key OEM on top. I want to be legal even with not having not the money to keep buying more licenses just to stay legal. I transfer these keys on my computer principal in VMS (Virtual Machines) and used to test and evaluate and be legal or licensing die with these computers? If they do not die with these computers, just buy equipment for computers to bring back to life? I want that some virtual machines to evaluate/test/etc. Also, I believe I read that even installing the same licenses on computer 2 times (partitions) is illegal? How can this be good? If this is true, then, no wonder that Microsoft makes so much money and it goes so hacking on. I n my questions I've seen where to transfer the license to another PC and throw, stills activate, (stupid question) but making them legal with MS? : P

-Geek Windows - 7 is better that any OS I have and never HAVE!

A Windows OEM license cannot be transferred to another computer.  A virtual machine is considered to be a computer.  In addition, you can only install and activate one 1 copy of Windows on a single
    (1) computer. Carey Frisch
