Active partition in windows 8

Which partition should be active partition in windows 8... on these 5 partitions
C:OS, image of ACB, WINRETOOLS, DIAGS and ESP?

C:OS is the only one. You can change the name of the OS (operating system) to anything you want. This makes it easier to recognize. Right click on C in the Explorer of files or disk management, choose Properties and change the name of OS. The only rule is no strange characters or symbols.

When I try to watch through the back, the sequence is all wrong. The previous system partition was becode D c. The other partition which is becoming C f.

I tried to use startrep to fix this, but the problem remains the same.

  • Installed new HARD drive with the new installation of XP, old HDD ShowAs saw as the active partition, how to change this?

I installed a new HARD drive with a new installation of Windows XP Edition family. I want to keep the old HDD and reformat the drive, but I can't because the second HDD is listed as active in the management of the computer. Why? It's not the drive that contains the operating system (Windows XP) that is initialized from.  I put the BIOS such that the new HARD drive is the boot drive. The old HDD has Windows XP on it, but isn't the startup disk. I just don't understand.
If only the new HARD drive is installed, the computer management doesn't show that it or any other of its partitions are the active partition (C drive is listed as the system partition, of course).

How can I get an active partition and no active partition when the new HARD drive is installed on a HARD drive that is not the boot drive, when I have two hard drives installed?

In case it is necessary, the new HARD drive is a SATA and the old HARD drive is IDE with the cavaliers as a slave.

The system partition is the Active partition. The system volume contains the system files needed to start Windows, Windows XP, these system files are:

    NTLDR
    Boot.ini
    NTDETECT.COM
Ntbootdd.sys (present/used only with older SCSI controllers)

Windows files are not necessarily on the system volume, they can reside on another volume, when on a different volume this volume holding Windows files is called the boot volume.

When you install Windows on a computer, playing a mixture of IDE and SATA setup discs tends to favor with IDE drives on SATA drives and tends to use the IDE drive to house the system partition, (even if Windows is installed on a different drive).

Running the command SYSTEM SET at a command prompt may shed some light on the problem...

  • multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\isapnp.sys

My laptop does not start correctly.

In a normal boot, the screen flashes the dell logo then turns off.

It will start using the f12 key for a menu that gives the following options: drive HARD internal, CD/DVD/CD-RW drive, configuration of the BIOS, Diagnostics

OR to the Windows Advanced Options Menu:

If I select Safe mode it tries to start then stalls on which seems to be to halfway through the config/sys.  The last element that appears is:

    multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\isapnp.sys

I can hear the fan, ect always on and the screen is black with half of it filled with data as above and the but no activity.

OK, when I run the "diagnosis" in the dell boot menu, it passes all the tests.  At the end a popup appears: "Dell Diagnostic Utility Partition boot" "Press any key to continue."  When I press on it all disappears them text and I get the blue screen.

I'm online on my desktop now if I can respond immediately.  Thanks in advance for any help

Maybe one day the "ask a question " of forums XP dialog box will ask these questions automatically when a new thread is started so I don't have to ask every time.  It might even be possible to solve a problem in a single response when enough information is provided.

Please provide additional information on your system:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a CD/DVD drive work?

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

This symptom often means that your system is of a malicious software.

If you choose to start safe mode, and the last thing you see on the screen looks like this:

    multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\isapnp.sys

If your system hangs in Mode safe on the isapnp.sys file, you will need to search for a driver of zero-byte length file in the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\Drivers

Of course, you have to boot the system on something in order to access the hard drive to find the suspicious file and get rid of it.

If you have any installation CD bootable XP real where you start in the XP Recovery Console, or you are not sure what type of bootable CD, you have, make a CD of bootable XP or Hiren Boot CD Recovery Console and do not forget.

There is no XP media needed to make a Hiren Boot CD or a bootable XP Recovery Console.  Then you can access the folder and check to see if there is such a suspicious file and take action.

Once you're booted to the CD of your choice, navigate to the following folder (assuming that XP is installed on your C volume):

    c:\Windows\System32\Drivers

Looking for a file that ends with an extension .sys and zero bytes in length.  The file can also have a curious name because she may have been generated at random.

If you are in the XP Recovery Console, issue the following command in the c:\windows\system32\drivers folder:

    dir *.sys

Files Scrolls one screen at a time.  Look at the list of files with .sys extensions and their lengths.  You don't need to worry about directories...  If you see a file with a .sys extension which is zero byte, it is suspect.

If you use the Mini Mode XP a Hiren s boot CD (which works as Office XP), just navigate to the folder of the my computer desktop icon and locates the suspect files.

You really want to delete the suspicious file once you get running and you run some scans for malware, but if you are not sure what is the suspicious file, or if it might be necessary, just rename the suspicious file for now, in case you are not sure.

For example, if you find zigxrtml.sys folder had a length of zero byte, rename it:

    Rename zigxrtml.sys zigxrtml.bad

Renaming or removing the suspicious file to get the system running is not resolved the problem.  It is the symptom of the problem.

The problem is your system is infected by malicious software and you should always follow up with a few scans to remove infections.

Once your system is running, followed with MBAM and SAS to be sure that the affliction has really been removed.

Reduce the risk of malware by running some scans.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.
Restart your computer and solve the outstanding issues.

Do, or do not. There is no test.

  • Upgrade Wizard indicates the active partition is compressed

    Hello

I have a MSI Netbook running Windows 7 Starter and want to go to Windows 10.

I run the upgrade wizard that tells me the current active partition is compressed.

I checked in the management of the computer - I have:

    Recovery partition - 8.35 GB

Active, the recovery Partition - 100 MB

    Boot, page file, crash dump, primary Partition - 173,79 GB - OS_Install (c :))

    Primary partition - 115,86 GB - Data (d :))

All are listed as single - base; C: and D: are NTFS; the other two have no file system listed.

None of the partitions are indicating as "compressed". In Solution Explorer, I have the opportunity to make compressed (thus taken as it is 'uncompressed').

All sitting on a WD 320 GB drive (289.1 GB used by partitions).

I do not have access to any partition other than C: and D: and I imagine wouldn't upgrade.

So why I said that the current active partition is compressed.

I notice that I could make C: partition Active - but what effect would it have on the boot and the functioning of the netbook?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • How to extend my main partition in Windows 7?

I have windows 7 installed on my drive C. I have allocated 10 gig space required to install the operating system. After the updates there is not much space left in the drive. I can't expand the space in the partition. Is there anyway that I could do with the relocation of the operating system? I try Norton Partition Magic, but it did not work.

If you have more than one partition on the hard disk that Windows is installed, you must first "Shrink" the partition immediately after the Windows partition. Windows 'Disk Management' cannot shrink the beginning of a partition (only the end of a partition), so you need a third party utility first reduce, not the Windows partition and then "Extend" the Windows partition in "Unallocated" space created when you narrowed down to the front of the partition Windows no.

    Try Partition Wizard Home Edition:
    http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Note: There is also a CD bootable or versions of the bootable Flash drive:
    http://www.partitionwizard.com/Partition-Wizard-bootable-CD.html
    http://www.partitionwizard.com/bootable-Flash-drive.html
Among the features and functions: create partition, delete partition, format partitions to partition, partition resize, Move, score after an accidental deletion, convert partition, partition Explore, Hide partition, change the drive letter, Set active partition, Explorer (content display) of the recovery partition.
Note: To complete any task use the "Pending Operations" box at the bottom left.

    Hello!

You can create partitions with Windows Vista Disk Manager.
It s not able to partition with the recovery disk, but you can do it with the Vista tool easy enough.

Make a right click on my computer => manage-online Storage-online disk management
Then, you can create partitions how do you.

By the way, here is an interesting article for you:

  • Install the new partition in Windows XP

Hello, is it possible to install an extra partition of Windows XP on my laptop with the recovery dvd satellite? I wish I had 2 win XP partition, and then choose the desired win XP. It will be used to have a stable win XP and a win XP that can be used for insalling and try new software.
    Thank you
    Pierre De Ceuster, Belgium

    Hello

You can use the recovery CD to create two partitions, but before do you these record all the data because the whole HARD disk will be formatted prior to installation. If you want to do this without reinstalling the operating system persistence, use Partition magic software. It is very powerful tool.

Don t forget to install the boot manager that allows you to choose which operating system you want to use.

  • The consolidation of the disks partitioned in Windows XP

    Hello

My friend has a C and a D hard drives local that he partitioned a while ago and now wants to consolidate it (delete partition) in Windows XP, it has 60 GB capacity on the ability of C and 50 GB on D.

We found a computer management screen where we saw the drives C and D.  When we right click on D we found a command that tells

'delete partition' but when we did it she always kept the space allocated for the D in another separate volume of C.

Can I can really consolidate both disks in a C drive that lists 110 GB total capacity?  Do I need a separate utility find you?

    Thank you

    You are welcome.

In general, these utilities are fairly easy to use... but read the instructions before you start.  And although they are not supposed to destroy your data, making backups is always prudent.

    Hello djplexus

First, you will need to understand how to set up the dual boot. This will allow you to be able to choose between XP and 7 at startup.
With regard to the creation of an image of Windows XP Backup there is no Windows XP software that will do it for you. You will need to look to third-party vendors for support with this issue. Thank you.
