Add/Remove Program runtime Server error - the name or address cannot be resolved

try to add/remove programs win XP computer

get the error:
runtime error (8:634) msxml3.dll the server name or address cannot be resolved
ran hitman pro and trend micro antivirus scans that removed a malware infection
that is not the program causing this error - who took ok I guess.
I'm so gone in my program list to delete all those which I think are dubious or is no longer necessary
all the rest have been removed ok.

Hi Silverwand,

·         Exactly how are you trying to access to add or remove programs?

·         Is the limited any question by going to add or remove the tool program or with other tools as well in Control Panel?

·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: You can try to run add or remove program through the key to execution and check

a. press the Windows key + R

b. type appwiz.cpl and press on ENTRY.

Method 2: You can try to re - register the msxml3.dll file and check.

If the file is in the correct path to the right size, then try and re-save the file.

a. click on Start

b. click run

c. type: regsvr32 msxml3.dll

d. click enter

e. restart your computer.

Method 3: I suggest that scan you SFC [SFC system] on the computer that would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.

a. click Start, click run, type cmd in the Open box and then click OK.

b. at the command prompt, type sfc/scannow, and then press ENTER.

Note: Could you prompt to insert the Windows XP CD.

The sfc/scannow command. analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

  • Withdrawal of obsolete lists in the Add/Remove program list?

I'm working on the clean-up of an older system running Windows XP Pro. The system has two hard drives... whose the second crashed and burned in a fatal way. Download ccleaner from piriform. Click Tools > uninstall. Highlight the entries that appear, but is really installed. Then choose Delete. Reformatting is an extreme measure for a simple issue resloved. Regarding running the ccleaner registry cleaning tool, that I personally used for several years without a single incident. This does not apply to all the registry tools however.

    CCleaner - home

It is also a trustworthy tool.

  • Program in the usual XP remove using Add / Remove programs

I have a program on XP, I installed years ago and have since removed it but remains in Add/Remove Programs list. All the program files have been deleted, but yet. I don't have the disc for the program and it doesn't "seem" be the source of the problems, it's more embarrassing than anything else.

Visit the software manufacturer's Web site and see if they have a removal tool for their software.  In many cases, a software company is aware of the problems of this kind because of complaints from their users.  This leads sometimes to write a little routine to remove all traces of their software in the Add/Remove does not complete the use of 100%.  If they have not done that, you can find instructions on their website for the registry keys remove gradually.

There are 4 Windows XP updates on my 2004 Sony Vaio wish to logoff (on the stop icon) install. And say sucessfully installed it when I do this on the Windows Update page. But after the restart, the updates below do not appear in the Add/Remove Programs folder.
