Adding a new Powerconnect 6248 switch to battery of existing production
A happy user PowerConnect here. I was wondering what were the experiences of others when you add an additional switch to an existing fireplace. My stack of 4 switches Powerconnect run happily on my side LAN and add a 5th to the stack. Any thoughts?
Here is a good article that deals with stacking Dell PowerConnect 6200 Series Switches. Page 13, adding a member of the battery with minimal Interruption

Hope this helps,

My PowerConnect 6248 switch loses its settings when disconnected from the power
Hello
I'll put up a PowerConnect 6248 switch on my local network through Web interface (I can't use serial to do).
I put the IP, login, password, a LAG, SNTP server address, etc.
It works fine until I unplugged the power cord to the switch to simulate a power outage. When I plugged in the power cord, the switch will reboot by displaying its default settings and I release all of mine.
Y at - it a specific command, I missed to save all my settings in the switch?
Thank you for your help.
Pascal.
The switch has two separate configuration locations, a running configuration and startup configuration. This allows you to change configuration and test running before engaging them in the startup configuration. Once you have the running configuration, how you want it, you need to run the # copy running-config startup-config command, or just copy # run start.

Blocking MAC address on PowerConnect 6248 switch
Hello
I have a PowerConnect 6248 switch where we want to block a specific MAC address from the rest of the network.
I created a list of MAC access with the following commands:
Console (config) #mac access-list extended BLOCK
Console (config-mac-access-list) #deny 001D.09D4.B08E ffff.ffff.ffff allConsole (config-mac-access-list) #permit a whole
I then apply it to all interfaces:
console (config) #mac group-access BLOCK
What ends by goes, is that all hosts connected to the switch are blocked when my rule should only be blocking the host with mac address 001D.09D4.B08E.
What I am doing wrong?
Thank you!
Have you tried changing your statement to:
Console (config-mac-access-list) #deny 001D.09D4.B08E 0000.0000.0000 everything

Console port (serial) on Powerconnect 6248 switch
Hi all
I have two powerconnect 6248 s. The first I've had for several months. The second, I just ordered recently.
I can't go to the console in to the second switch. I use the same settings (minicom) and cable that I use regularly to connect to the first switch.
Any thoughts on how to solve this problem? I don't see any startup dialog after resetting the switch 2.
Thank you
Looks like you have experienced just about everything that you can. You checked restarted cable, the emulator settings, confirmed working on the other switch, switch, and the default value and it still does not work. It sounds more like it could be a hardware problem with this port. Is the unit still under warranty?

Adding two new Windows 7 work stations to the existing network of WinServer 2008
I bought two new Windows 7 Professional - 64-bit (Dell Precision 3610) workstations. How to set up our server and domain? The server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. I must go to the permissions on the server to have new stations to be recognized? The new computers are the replacement of the existing jobs and will be connected to the ports of existing data.
Thank you.

Ok. Finally I found the downtime. We had to add a new switch of the battery.
I took 1/xg1 cable and put it in the 4\xg1 port to connect to the new switch.
Also updated to the latest firmware.
Result:
-There was no errors for 2 the first 2 days.

PowerConnect 6248 switch for Cisco router
Hello
I'm new to this forum and I have a problem at the moment between a Cisco router and a dell pc6248. The problem is that I lost conectivity in VLAN 1 when I connect the router to a trunk port in the switch, however I conectivity VLAN 2 through this link to trunk. The configuration of the switch:
interface ethernet 1/g48
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 1-2
output
interface ethernet 1/g43
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 2
output
On router
fast interface 0/1
no ip address
no downtime
fast interface 0/1.1
encapsulation dot1q 1 native
IP 192.200.3.1 255.255.255.0
fast interface 0/1.2
encapsulation dot1q 2
IP 192.168.51.33 255.255.255.248
output
With the above configuration, I lost conectivity with the host in the vlan 1 - 192.200.3.x/24, but I win conectivity VLAN 2, when I connect the router to the 48 trunk port in the switch. This means that the trunk link for VLAN 2 work but not for VLAN 1.
I read on the port of general mode, where I can configure the pvid of the port as 1 (vlan1) and it would be the unttag VLAN (even natively in Cisco), and I can configure the VLAN 2 like the tag, all this in the same port. What do you think about this? Someone have set up something like that?
Best regards
Erasmo
PD: I write from Chile, I apologize for my English.
I agree with you, I would try the general mode on the PowerConnect switch.
mode console # switchport general
Console # switchport General allowed vlan add 2 tag
Console # switchport pvid General 1
Keep us updated.

The PowerConnect 6248 switch, RAY and selected methodological issues
I think this should be simple enough, but doesn't work that way. I have multiple 6248 and a handful of other switches in PC and I'm RADIUS deployment as primary authentication mechanism. I'm going through some preliminary tests here and a simple thing is not just to work this way. Profile networklist I put RAY first of all that the method of selection and LOCAL for the second. The RADIUS user authenticates very well, but while trying to search the LOCAL user, it is rejected. I thought that if the local user is not found by DEPARTMENT policy, he is sent to the next method? I'm only using telnet for the moment method before changing the HTTP methods. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!
Could answer my own question here, but I think that the NPS server should probably 'time' or not meet the demand of the initial authentication for the local aspect until you reach? have not tested, but may do so shortly.

N2048 vs PowerConnect 6248 switch
Hello
I would like to ask the professional.
For the communication of internal servers of our company, what to spend more powerful N2048 or PC6248?
We would like to use only ports of the team, LAG. No VLAN, no routing. Just "layer 2".
Thank you.
Best regards
MAxim Krol
Hi, Maxim,.
If you do not give me layer 2 the N2000 is the newer model. It has several CPU memory 1 GB vs. 256 MB and increased capacity of fabric and a faster transfer rate.

Adding a new parent entity is in conflict with existing parent adjustments
Hello people,
I am trying to add a new parent entity in the entity dimension, but get an error message when loading the metadata. The message basically says that there is some adjusting parent entries exist for this new parent children and, of course, the conflict arises with the new parent.
How can I go about it? I don't want to remove these magazines to fit existing parent so not to disturb the earlier codifications.
Help, please!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Kind regards
Polina Kornyukhina, Toronto
Upper Lakes Group Inc..
416-960-4416.I would create a new entity just below the initial parent. Then change all entries for this entity (and not Parent Adjs). Then add your new parent entity and move the members of base under him. It should preserve the old numbers while allowing the living structure of the future State.
As a general rule, I guide people away from Adjs Parent whenever possible.

Good method to restore running, boot and Firmware for PowerConnect 6224 switch
Hi all
I have a switch PowerConnect 6224 of production that is configured exactly as I want. I have a new PowerConnect 6224 switch I want to restore the config is possible? My goal is to not have to manually enter settings for each single switch.
I tried a few methods, but they do not seem to work. If anyone can tell me the correct procedure or point me in the right direction would be great!
Here's a document on some older switches which explains the process.
www.Dell.com/.../app_note_12.pdf
It is different for the 6248 somewhat, but the concept is still the same.
Copy of the file Image of a server to Flash memory
Use the command copy of the image - the url of the source to copy an image from a Flash memory server file, use the boot system command to activate the new image.
Copy of a Configuration file from one server to the running Configuration
Use the running-config command to copy the url of the source to load a configuration file to a network server for the device running configuration. The configuration is added to the running configuration, as if the commands were typed in the command line interface (CLI). The resulting configuration file is the combination of the running configuration and the loaded configuration file, with the configuration file with priority.
Copy of a Configuration file from one server to the Startup Configuration
Use the command copy startup-config - the url of the source to copy a configuration of a network server file in the startup of the device configuration. These commands replace the configuration file starting with the copied configuration file.
Store the Configuration of starting or running on a server
Use the command copy running-config destination url to copy the current configuration file to a network server by using TFTP. Use the copy destination-url startupconfig command to copy the configuration file to start on a network server. The copy of the configuration file can be used as a backup copy.
firmware download also includes step by step instructions on how to upgrade the firmware.

PowerConnect 6248 stacking using the front SFP Ports
I am trying to stack two Dell Powerconnect 6248 switches. Currently they are chained together, but I modules fibre for the front sfp ports. Theoretically, I should be able to stack them. But when I try:
stack 1/g45 #stack - port console (config-battery)
Could not set the front panel stacking mode.
Any ideas? Thank you!
The PCT6200 requires a stack of modules installed in Bay 1 (XG1 XG2) at the rear of the switch. The stacking module uses CX4/Infiniband type stacking spacers.
Stacking of front port / user is not supported

PowerConnect 6248 routing problem
Hi all
I have a very frustrating problem with routing using a PowerConnect 6248 switch.
Network configuration is the following:
VLAN3
172.16.0.254/24
VLAN4
192.168.0.254/24
PC on each VLAN using the switch VLAN interface IP (x.x.x.254) as the gateways.
Switch has configured default route to 192.168.0.248 which is a router with excess of 100 subnets frame relay cloud. 192.168.0.248 has routes suitable for all remote subnets via a serial interface, a static route to VLAN 3 (172.16.0.0/24) traffic through 192.168.0.254 and one way by default via a PIX 515 (192.168.0.253). Router and PIX is connected to access VIRTUAL 4 LAN ports. The PIX has a route to VLAN 3 traffic through 192.168.0.254.
The problem is that VIRTUAL 3 all hosts on the local network cannot access the Internet. They can ping the gateways in the order - 172.16.0.254, 192.168.0.248 and 192.168.0.253. I have disabled IP forwarding on the router and the switch with no effect.
I built this configuration in Cisco Packet Tracer 5.0 (it works) and we are running exactly the same IP configuration with a Nortel switch instead of the Dell 6248 (this also works).
Absoloutely perplexed to find out what I'm missing! I also noticed that if I perform a traceback while in the CLI on the router using a source IP address of the interface VLAN that it blocks the interface on the switch.
I would be very grateful to anyone who can punch me in the right direction.
I've included the config switch below.

Incoming packets were discarded on Dell 6248 switch
Hello guys,.
I'm having a problem on my network. From time to time the icmp echo packets are lost and this causes our monitoring system trigger false alarms.
I checked interfaces for switches and found the discarded packet counter is incremented in one of them.
Flow control is enabled on the interface and there is no frame break sent.
The duplex on both ends are correct are the port speeds.

Humm,
We have changed our duo of remote of a failure wan link and the interface mistakes of count stop. Everything is the same: traffic, applications, etc. Not a clue about what happened because there is a Linux between the equipment of the carrier and the switch (bad packets would have fallen in the interface of linux machine).
We turn now to the carrier of the explanations/solutions.
