Adding a serial port to Tiny M73

I am trying to understand the number of the serial port in option on the M73 (10AY001YUS). Can someone ponit me in the right direction? I found other posts here with psrt numbers, but I can't find out how to confirm they work with specific machines I have.

I received my 04 X 2703. It's certainly the right part. Hope this helps you guys.

  • xw6600 Workstation - Serial Port problems

I want to add a standard RS232 9 pins (serial) port on my HP xw6600 workstation.

Due to the current expansion I have only x 8 PCIe and PCIe x 16 available on the motherboard slots.

I tried two dedicated PCIe Searial maps (PX-235 BrainBoxes and SatrTech BY - 1 S 552) and caused both the PC go into a continuous re-start cycle, i.e. the PC through the BIOS and rebooting itself before loading the operating system.  I tried to disable the interface Serial Port built into the BIOS, but it made no difference and cars (s) should be removed.

I noticed that the motherboard has an onbard Serial Port adapter, but I don't know what hardware is required to present this port at the rear of the workstation (cable and plate back I guess), or even if it can be used for this purpose.

If someone added a serial port to the device, I'd be interested to know how they did it.

    Thank you.

That's what you're looking for. It is a connector standard seial that connects to the head set to edge out motherboard to an empty slot on the back of your pc. There are many on the market. You should be able to find a room for @ $6-8, 00 USD to any electronic parts store. If you activate the serial port in the BIOS, coupled with the installation of a configuration like this, you should have what you are looking for.

  • VISA from read/write to serial port - unable to implements several orders of writing!

    Hello

I'm new to Labview and I'm reading from a pressure through a virtual serial port USB sensor. I am able to read the port when you use HyperTerminal

The code sequence that I should write to the port in order to obtain measurements using hyperterminal is the following:

' *' (2A hex)-online start and the responses of the port by asking 'Command', I should then enter

FF-online measurement select the port must ask the 'mode', so I should enter

0 has-online measurement of high resolution mode and it was then that I should start receiving action.

The port is always answer by errors when I write the start command or the FF one. I tried to establish a sequence stacked to write the three commands then read the port, I added some delay between the three of them, but it does not work.

Now I made really simple and removed the stacked sequence and just put the three commands one after the other and try to remedy not to not on the code.

I'm really stuck at this point, could someone help me please? I read a lot fo articles on the forum, but I can't solve this problem

    Thank you

I have attached my VI and the SCP1000 documentation (I can provide other versions of my demo if necessary)

The reason for your problem is a frequent misunderstanding even among experienced programmers. Take a look at this thread

    http://forums.NI.com/NI/board/message?board.ID=170&thread.ID=417750

In your data sheet, then they return codes like 0xFF or 0x0A so has a single byte of average value. Then you in your-active code constant writing FF\n is so this equal to values in format hexadecimal 46460A and your instrument do not understand. But it will include FF0A. In order to solve your problem, you would type in \FF\n in your '-' chain helped codes. Remember too, if you type in \32 it will be converted to character 2 this being 0 x 32 50 decimals and code ASCII 50 is equal 2

Take the time and change the display format of string between '-' display and Hex display and you will see the difference

    Hope this helps

  • communication serial port works to the max, but not in labview

    Hello

I am trying to connect a regulator to oxygen flow (flow Bronkhorst EL) to a laptop through a USB using MAX and Labview series port adapter. After the MAX aperture, I see my instrument on port COM5 and need to change the baud rate to 9600 to 38400. After this I querry the command: 06030101217D00\r\n, I can turn the mass flow at maximum power regulator (looks a little weird order because of the syntax of the instrument, but it works very well). If I write a vi to do the same and send the same string through visa series, I get no results, it seems that the command is not send to the device. I tried to change all settings for the serial port, nothing seems to work.

I've attached an example vi here, any suggestions?

    Hello

just a simple misunderstanding, happy that you added the code.

In MAX \r\n will be always interpreted as send a cr and line break.

In LabVIEW only when you select \codes view by right-clicking on the channel.

In your situation, it now sends a-a r another- and a n

  • NEITHER 9870 Serial Port Communication

    Hello

I have the module 9870 serial rs232 on 9073 cRIO chassis. I have watched the series loopback example, added to my project, changed the entry node to point to the serial port on the right. It works fine when I use a closure connected the cable to the serial port.

However, when I connect the port to the serial port on the back of my pc (using the cable series of woman to woman) and run the "Serial Loopback DMA Rd (host) .vi" I see no data being sent on my PC com port hyperterminal. Also if I type any character on hyper terminal I see their receipt by the LabView program.

Why is this happening? that is, the example works well with a loopback adapter and not when it is connected to other serial port?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hello

You have all the details on the cable you are using? You may need a null modem cable.

All in hyperterminal settings the cRIO? IE: Baud rate/parity/start and stop bits etc.

Could you take a screenshot of the hyperterminal settings and the windows serial port settings? Could you attach your cRIO VI?

    Thank you very much

  • Need 16 to 115 200 serial ports, can not get more 8 then

    I try to get 16 to 115 200 serial ports send/receive data. I have a NI PCIe-8431/16 (RS-485/422).

I managed to get 8 ports will at the same time but not anymore. I tried 9 ports at a time and I get timeouts on port 9.

PC: Dual core 2.4 GHz, 4 GB of Ram. I'm not more taxing on the CPU, I mean its 115 200 what treatment he would need.

I'm already talking with OR to the care, but so far they don't have a definitive answer of fix. I thought that maybe windows XP can handle 8 ports?

I also tried to use 8 of 16 channels and 1 another card 4 ports, I've had. Always the same results. I can do 8 simultaneous connections, sending data. and it seems that I can get the 9th to send to 2400 baud, but when I switch to port to 115 200 speed it fails / timesout?

More information about my project: I am trying to update firmware on 16 devices at once. To 115 200, it takes 6 minutes to push all the code of the device.

Process is: 2400 baud get version and check if a new version is necessary. 2400 baud say im switching machine for 115 200 2400 baud response. 115 200 baud send start download receive response to 115 200 baud rate. Send the bytes start and spell then line of the file at a time. Send end. done bytes.

Anyone know of possible limitations under XP or with the device OR? Any help or idea would be apreciated.

worst case I limit to 8 at a time. which is useless then. Might as well buy a controller at 8 ports and make a smaller device...

Well, I fixed my problem with the help of using NI SPY on serial ports. Thanks for this idea of troubleshooting, first time I had to use or spy.

First problem was my 100msec device timeout of 2400 baud to 115200 baud of switching. I added a loop for, 5 time, delays from 20msec (total 100msec) to send 'start download' and also to receive a response, after the transmission change. This allowed the unit to wait for firmware.

Then I noticed that I had a ton of failure during the download. Process is send receive some line of code 0 x 01 that the code was excluded, then send the following line of code. If she gets 0 x 01 has not received or 0x02, and then send it again (forever if you want, well I think that several seconds until the device stops data receiver)

My problem here is that I sent the data line, then read 1 byte. Timeout is set to 500msec. My code would get a timeout, so I'll send the data once again, since I have not received of 0x01. For some reason, it does not. After that I get the timeout I can't send/recieve on this port. I have then close and restart.

Fix was a loop (20 times?) for 500 msec and check the receive buffer. If the receive buffer is empty after 500msec I try again. If the receive buffer has data then I read and check to 0x01. If I don't get 0x01 I try again. Otherwise, send the following line of code. It works very well.

Finally, I can picture 16 devices in less than 7 minutes. This should normally be one at a time for 7 minutes each using a matrix of series 48.

    Next challenge 48 serial ports!

    Thanks for the help.

  • Read the Serial Port in case of break in series

    Hello world

I want to create a VI who will write a series, write interruption, then wait for an interrupt series to be received and if it is received, read what's on the serial port.  However I can't the VI to detect that an interruption of the series took place.  I looked at and followed what was done in the "Detect the Event.vi Break" example in examples of Labview.  The microphone that speaks to the VI sends a break of 13 bits (approximately length 57us), as expected, proved by the use of an oscilloscope but Labview is not contagious. I have attached the VI in question.  It is used as a subvi in a larger program.  I'm missing something or doing something wrong?

I do not know.  230 400 is a very fast pace.  The UART in the PC isn't really in the game, but the EasySync USB/serial box is what is the factor.  USB is part of the communication may be adding a few complications.  You may browse the EasySync detailed technical data to see if they talk about it.

I would certainly try a very long break first.  If it works, then start working backwards to small jumps.  If a long pause does not work, then you know that perhaps the problem is elsewhere.

  • How use the serial port read and display the text but not scroll off the screen?

I'm new-ish/return user fan of Labview and trying to change the example VI "Advanced serial write and read VI" is the part of the dev suite 2012.  I need to use the string box for ALL of the text from a serial port, always adding and just roll off the screen when the actuals come to the serial port.

What actually arrived more than bytes (or no bytes AT ALL!), during reading time text, current rolls out of the box in the chain.  Even when receiving 0 bytes, screen is removed.  I'm not very familiar with the locations of functions and even worse to understand obscure references to functions, so please keep very basic answers so I can follow.

Just to be clear, I need window of the chain behave as HyperTerminal does always displays the data and it is not pushed by window arbitrarily.

    Thank you

    Steve

    A long shot.

    Is that what you want?

  • Name of resource VISA get does not have USB serial ports

We built an application on a computer that had a built-in serial port - COM1.  We have the option to change the COM port in the application.  We have installed the application built on a computer that has no serial port, but installed a USB serial Converter which records as COM3.  LabView does not see this port, even with a test application to return only the names of VISA resources.

We have verified that the port is good with another program (a Modbus Simulator) and installed the last TIME VISA v4.41 separately without result.

Any suggestions for more troubleshooting would be extremely useful.

    Joe T.

My main of the application still does not work, but now the little test ones are.

    Here's what I did:

    1. update my LabView 8.5 with the last VISA - 4.4 runtime.  This update the installer as well.

    2. added the install MAX for the build.

    3. adding the Support of Configuration of NI-VISA for construction

    4. uninstalled the app and reinstalled with the new volume of the system.

When I run MAX, COM3 appears.  He also appears in the application of test resources.  The simple test Modbus to write the program works, too.  I have a sneaky feeling that COM1 can be hardcoded somewhere in the parent application; our next task is to find where communication breaks down in our code.  The bottom line seems to be a lack of experience with the demand of our manufacturer.

    Thanks to all who participated!

  • When a character appeared reading serial port

How to wait for some specific characters occurred in the serial port (e.g. port COM1 RS232 on PC) and then they recover at the port?

I want to communicate back with a motor controller that uses ASCII strings such as commands and responses. It formulates a response to any command sent, and the response contains exactly a termination character (that I can specify during installation) at the end of the response string. Sometimes also, it sends a message when there is no order issued, for example a disc error message. There is no simple way and reliable when the controller is going to speak, when he won't, and the message will be exactly how many time, but we do know that each message will have this stop only at the end character. I would like to interpret the entire message in my code, that is to say, I would like to retrieve the string of all the characters from the previous endpoint character up to and including the most recent stop character. I think it means that I would have a VI that returns the message string and does not stream until the stop character appeared and was added to the response string. Or, Alternatively, a loop that adds entire messages to a queue of strings.

All the screw example I found seems to rely on a certain number of milliseconds to wait or to know how many bytes to read, in order to use VISA Read.

So far, I use a loop which seeks bytes in the buffer, retrieves everything to add to a string of shift register and test if there is a character of the string endpoint, all extract up to and including the stop character, if so. This feels very awkward and expensive for what should be a common task. Is this general law approach, or did I miss something in a simpler way?

I read on the communication by Message and characters of endpoint, approach that sounds functionally similar to this, but it seems around standards of SCPI and my motor controller does not support this. In any case example Finder does not get a single hit on 'Message '.

    Thank you!!

It really looks like you are doing things a lot more difficult it must be. Look at the VISA configure Serial Port. It has a character of endpoints allow and end characters entries. If you wire a real (or leave that he unwired) entry activate, read VISA will end automatically when you specify the stop character is detected. As long as the number of bytes to read is larger that the largest string that you expect to read, there is nothing else you need to do. That's how examples of shipment are put in place and discussions about the characters of the termination. Should there be nothing related to sustainable intensification of CROPS. If you do not get a message in your specified time-out, you get a time-out error.

  • Add serial port to VM, get BSOD 0x0000007b

The operating system is Windows XP and it has been converted from a physical PC about 2 months ago.  He was the starter and working for all of the two months.

But this computer starts.  I have a snapshot that I can surely return.  And this snapshot successfully starts and restarts.

But when I add a single serial port (which is a physical port mapping) you get a BSOD on startup.

After getting the BSOD, if I remove the newly added serial port, he continues to get the BSOD... safe mode or not.

I am able to join the 'hard drive' to another 'computer' and read / copy files.

No minidump file is generated by the BSOD.

I read through all the STOP 0x0000007B VMWare community articles.  While I'm sure it's related to that those who are all about the SCSI drivers and boot devices.

    He is a serial port...

Someone at - it a theory or something to try?

OK, so far, I've saved a copy of the VMX for bootable and BSOD.

A diff seems to indicate that SCSI is get added.  I will try to reduce the VMX BSOD and see what happens.  I might be able to save myself, but feel free to drop some knowledge on me if you have one.

    As well as it did.

I have nuked two SCSI lines out of the VMX file and it starts.

    scsi0. Present = 'TRUE '.

    scsi0.pciSlotNumber = "16".

Don't know why VMWare 9 added THAT SCSI on a computer virtual set to IDE... perhaps that will happen every time I have to change the settings.

    Don't know...

This virtual machine was a horrible time, conversion from physical to virtual and it never worked when trying to make the recommended patches SCSI community.

Maybe when life slows down I'll clone and try to convert them into SCSI again.

  • Option named pipe to add the missing Serial Port to Linux host

    Hi all

I try to add a serial port as a channel named for a kernel debugging

the installer, but this option is missing (see screenshot1). There are

However the options to add the serial port in the file/socket.

    The host is 64-bit Fedora 10 2.6.27.24 - 170.2.68.fc10.x86_64 running.

Workstation is 6.5.2 build-156735. I found that the named pipe option is missing, regardless of the type of the guest OS.

I had posted this last week.

    http://communities.VMware.com/message/1267552

and he said since as soon as I put in the following options in the marked .vmx file, a serial port option came (see screenshot2).

    Serial0.present = 'TRUE '.

    Serial0.filetype = 'pipe '.

    Serial0.filename = "/ tmp/com_1".

I realized that I have a VM as the serial port server and others as a customer. So adding the option-

    Serial0.pipe.endpoint = 'server '.

However, this option is breaking the vm configs (cannot start VM until I have delete this line).

Please see the attached screenshot3 6.5.2 on Windows and you will see that there is a different and complete serial port setting to the research. You can easily set a virtual machine as a client/server side of the connection series on Windows.

I would really appreciate if someone could give me some pointers as to why this difference between Linux and Windows, and how to get the type parameters for the serial ports under Linux Windows?

My main goal for the purchase of workstation was to do kernel debugging using the serial ports, and now I'm totally paralyzed because of this. Pointers and suggestions are greatly welcome.

    Thank you very much

  • Disconnect the Serial Port

    Hi people

Disconnect the CD-ROM and floppy disks with the powershell is really easy, but I want to disconnect the Serial Ports in my VM.

Does anyone have a script to do this (or if someone could create a script)?

I used to remove the serial port, because you can only remove the serial port if the virtual machine is 'off '.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    See you soon

    Simon

The $VMname variable must be initialized with a string containing the name of a guest.

This is the name as it appears from the prompt in the VI client.

    For example:

    $VMname = "PC999"

And you have not added a Connect-VIServer at the beginning of the script I guess?

  • Using the Serial Port on the HP 50 g graphic calculator

    Hello world

I have another question. I want to use the Serial Port on the HP 50 g to connect with another device. The device is called the MFJ-1214PC. What it does is to accept the text and commands through a 9-pin serial Port and converts the text in a Code Morse/RTTY sound audible. It also decodes Audible the Morse Code and RTTY radio signals and displays them as text on your computer. The program that controls the MFJ-1214PC was originally written for an IBM PC for the MS-DOS operating system. The HP 50 g graphic calculator meets the system requirements for the simplest version of the program. I was wondering if there is an MS-DOS emulator written for the HP 50 g, which would allow the HP 50 g to become the computer in this case, or if the program could be rewritten and brought to the HP 50 g. If it could be rewritten, programming language what do you think would be better suited to this type of application (if it is even possible?) or UserRPL, SystemRPL or Assembly. Don't forget that I'm a complete newbie with the HP50g and have never programmed with it yet. I'll include the manual of the MFJ-1214 PC as an attachment so that you won't have to look for him. Thank you in advance for your help!

    ~ Zekelegge ~.

I understand (from my brief overview) out of the box-MFJ-1214PC, this offer box decoder output series computer.  The computer (50g in your case) will have the software to read message series and then convert that to an output for display.

BartDb gave you the right answer.

A serial cable with the correct speed level and reversing lever to manage as well as the 50G has a RS-232 signal to the outside world is the ideal solution.

However, make sure that the output of the decoder box series package can be understood by the 50 g. aud, bits, etc.   (you have the set-top box manual, so you'll have to look that up)

the streamsmart is not an aggregator of serial port.

in other words, these connectors DIN of Qty 4 on the front do not accept series rs-232 input and send then to 50 G.

I'm not an expert, streamsmart more info on these boxes is rare to find.  The probes are even more rare.

However, I know that the 4 connectors are for the analog-to-digital conversion in the probes.  The streamsmart works as a "data logger" in which he sees the input probe, the A/D converted, then sends it to the 50G (or a computer via the USB port).

In addition to the solution of Bart, there was another named Tiwag forum poster who created a serial cable and displayed a schematic representation of the cable.  This information can be found here:

    https://groups.Google.com/Forum/?fromgroups#! searchIn/comp.sys.HP48/serial$20port/comp.sys.HP48/ltcane1jSOw/uHyw2Ti03kgJ

to see an example of programming to use the serial port of 50G, you can reference the following hpcalc GPS data collection program.

    http://www.HPCalc.org/details.php?id=7105

It is written in userrpl so can be crossed with the reference of users advanced for the translation of the syntax.

It seems that the main routine of concern for the comm to the gps is in the file "GPS >.
