Adding an SSD as a boot drive - how to install Windows Vista Start

To speed up my new e9105z, I bought a new 80 GB Intel X - 25 M to reduce disk latency and complete the 640GO HARD drive came with my computer.

Drive has been installed successfully, recognized by the PC and formatted with the Windows Vista Disk Manager tool.  When I use the BIOS tool to set the Intel SSD as my boot drive, it says that some files of startup is missing, and I come to on the HARD disk as the startup disk.

Bottom line: how to install Windows Vista on the SSD and configure it to start?  Did I lose my classic HDD data in the process?

Thank you

Here is where I am/measures taken.  HP of course makes this difficult process:

(1) used the CD Creator to make a backup.  (Note that the CD - R does not work with the e9105z software.  Do only DVD-R).  (I tried the system HARD disk recovery image.  He simply reinstalled itself on the HARD disk.)

(2) the value of Vista installed on the SSD via backup DVDs.  System starts beautifully with SSD.  Hooray! I was about to declare mission accomplished, then...

(3) Reconnected my HDD SATA cable, she failed to be the startup disk.

(4) I used disk management to reformat the HARD drive to erase its boot sector.  It is always default to the HARD disk, which is more a Vista on it.  Now, I must go into the BIOS and choose the Intel SSD as boot drive whenever I turn on manually.

Any idea on what needs to be done to configure the BIOS to finally settle the SSD as my boot drive?  The backup system image is still on the old hard drive.  Could that be throwing?

The SSD speed is great, but the 6 + hours spent on Vista reinstall, reinstall and reinstall throughout this trial and error process made a royal PITA to do.  It seems that HP didn't consider that whether by adding a second drive that is bootable.

Thank you

You should be able to select the startup disk in the BIOS.  Restoring image shouldn't be a factor.  If the BIOS settings do not work, I would swap the connectors between the readers.

Good luck

    Hello

    You are welcome

If the CD/DVD drive in the works of PC Gateway, you can (at least temporarily) remove it and install it in the HP, you can run your recovery disc and reinstall Vista.  Once everything is running on the HP, you can always remove the CD/DVD drive and reinstall it in the gateway PC if you wish.

    Monastir,

What happens when it stops it is have a Sata driver. It is on the drivers cd you received with your computer. You can also start the computer and press F2 to enter the bios. From there down to Configuration system - SATA Operation and change this to ATA. It is located to AHCI. Save the changes and restart the installation. Once you have loaded Windows and drivers installed, you will need to go back to AHCI.

  • New HARD drive - how to install Windows?

    Hey guys,.

I have a problem with my Dell Dimension 9150. A friend of mine gave me as a gift, because I built his new computer. We put his HARD drive in his new computer.

The problem is: there is no CD of his computer.

I have the original Windows XP and Windows MCE and CD licenses. The Dimension has a MCE key so I would like to install MCE.

After installing a new HARD drive, I tried to install Windows. BIOS shows me the HARD drive. When I start the installation of Windows and choose "Windows Installer", I get to the screen where I can choose, what partition I would use. But installing Windows shows me no HARD drive!

Don't know if I need SATA drivers? If I should need it, where can I find them? And how to get them in the Windows installation? I know that I can load pressing F6, but I don't have a floppy device.

Would be great, if someone could help me.

  • How to install Windows Vista on the Qosmio G35-Av600 RAID driver?

I have Windows Vista Home Preminm upgraded Pakage. When I start the installation process, the installation program ask Toshiba Raid Driver. So I click the button to load a driver and choose the folder where the driver is located, as mentioned on the guide, but said configuration there is no driver found for this player.

What is the reason and what is the solution?

    Hello

Have you chosen the right RAID driver?
It seems that this laptop Qosmio was designed for the American market and therefore, you need to download the driver to the US page:

    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/Su/su_sc_home.jsp

It is specially designed RAID driver for Vista. At that time its version 1.10.0016 .
Please note that you will need to extract this file prior to installing the RAID driver!

  • How to install Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit?

Hello! Can someone tell me how can I make Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to 64-bit?

    Here's my question: -.

    1. I bought a version of Windows Vista Edition retail family Premium, the package has only the 32-bit support (DVD). I found a few website say that the product key for the retail version of Windows is for 32-bit and 64-bit, as long as we use 32 - bit or 64 - bit on a single computer at a time. If I'm wrong, anyone could answer my question?

    2. now, I plan to move from 32 bit to 64 bit, my problem is that the version sold at retail of Windows that I purchased only contain 32-bit media:-

    (a) is there a way I could install the 64-bit Windows?

    (b) is it possible I could get 64-bit support?

    (c) could I use media in Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit retail a friend to install on my computer? And after installation, I can activate Windows with my product key?

Looking forward to the responses, thank you.

Do you a clean install from 32 bit to 64 bit.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx

Link above is how you get 64 bit DVD, if you have a retail license.

You can use any Microsoft Vista 64-bit DVD and use your 32 bit key as you say it's Vista Retail

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • How to install Windows Vista without an installation disk?

I want to preinstall Vista on my laptop. I have both the laptop with Win Vista license but there is no instalation disk. Now, I want to make a clear installation but I can't find a way to get a Vista disk. I am looking for the download link, but vain windows.com, I only get Service Pak 2 link. Help, please.

    Hello

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • How to install Windows Vista - BT stack should be removed but how?

I finally bought a new windows vista instillation cd, and it worked fine until when he was checking confirmation... when it happened he came with a message saying that I had to remove the Toshiba bluetooth stack.

I had no problem with that, in addition to the fact that when I uninstalled... it says it's successful, I rebooted and the instillation of Vista has always said exactly the same thing, even if the program was out of my computer.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall, Setup and different version and then uninstall, nothing seems to work, it always says that I still need to uninstall it from my computer.

Does anyone know of some way to work around this problem? Many thanks appreciated to help him!

    Hello

It seems that you have made an update of XP to Vista. Am I wrong?
Why have you tried to update the operating system?
I think it s not advisable to upgrade to the first version of XP to Vista.

I prefer a clean Vista installation if you want you can use the two BONES; XP and Vista.
In this case, the new partition is necessary.

You can install the Vista on the second partition, and you could leave the XP on the partition of fist.
Vista provides a clean start and therefore Manager it s easy to switch between the two BONES.

But it was only my proposal. You can also format the whole HARD drive and install only the Vista!

    Hello

You will need to do a download of it, as SP1 is no longer available via Windows Update.

You don't tell what you have 'little' version of Vista (32-bit or 64-bit):

Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > it will tell you it.

    Select download OK "bit".

    Download for Vista SP1 (32-bit): http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=30

    Download for Vista SP1 (64-bit): http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=21299

    Hi guys

Dear Dixon is a user forum and no place for official statements. It will be nice to have the info from the Toshiba directly, but unfortunately we must exchange information only.

Back to Tecra: model A4 is not taken in charge of Vista and I really don't think Toshiba will create new BIOS for this model of laptop. I know it's very bad, but as far as I know, Microsoft has defined the minimum hardware requirements for the Vista operating system, and the producers of material obviously muss follow the instructions provided by Microsoft. As you know many older units have? Capablea Vista? sticker. All of these units will be supported. Specifications of models without this sticker, certainly not. Is this sticker on your Tecra?
