my old computer is running vista and I had hundreds of bookmarks on many issues, but I can't find these during the exploration of the old drive. I guess that I can't use the ease of import that I would not be able to access the browser firefox itself on the old drive, but I was hoping that the bookmarks would be stored somewhere accessible
Please follow the instructions on this webpage http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files to show hidden files. Then click Start-> computer-> your old player-> users-> your username-> APPDATA\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\, and follow the remaining instructions in the support article. Let me know if it helps.

When you try to backup or copy files I get the message that these files (there are 4 of them) cannot be saved or copied because they have already opened and used on the computer. A single file is 256 KB and another has 0 KB. Can not see the other two
Hi MAnnetteFox,
Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community.
You do not need to take backup of these files and they are normal files that will be generated.

With the help of a backup on an external hard drive to transfer files to a new computer.
I recently got a new computer and I need to transfer my files via my new computer. Both computers running Windows 7. I have an external hard drive that has all my files from my old computer on it. I went into the control panel configuration, then system and security, and then in the backup and restore. I then clicked on "select another backup to restore files from" and looked for my external drive. I made sure that it was connected and up-to-date as well. However, he never showed up.
I would like to manually just transfer the files, but it seems as if there are readers split on this computer for 'BONES' and 'DATA '. For this reason, I'm not sure which car I'd put even files on.
How can I transfer these files?
Hello
I understand that you are having problems with the restoration of the backup files of the external hard drive. Correct me if I misunderstood the question.
(1) what is the version of Windows 7 is installed on your computer?
(2) have you made changes on the computer before this problem?
(3) you receive an error message when you try to restore?
I suggest you to consult and follow the steps in the links and check if the problem persists.

Windows easy transfer. I can't use transfer to move files to the new computer
I used windows easy transfer to back up my files to an external hard drive before doing a clean install of windows 7, XP.
I am unable to find any "windows easy transfer" files on the hard drive for transfer to the new computer.
ALL the files from my old computer are there and I am able to access it from the external hard drive.
Please tell me there is an easy way to transfer files and I don't have to do it manually.
What is the error message when you try to restore files in Windows 7?
Also, did you really use the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to back up your files or did you use the built in the files and Settings Transfer wizard in Windows XP? If you used the files and Settings Transfer Wizard, that won't work no.
You must install Windows Easy Transfer on Windows XP, save the files as one. MIG file on your external drive, restore it on the Windows 7 computer. See for instructions:

Transfer files to the new user account [was: new user]
We went from Windows XP forum>
How to transfer files from the current user to a user name
Is that what you really want to do and why?
In particular, you want to create a user account completely new to replace an old account may be corrupt, or you want to just copy some files?
If you want to copy the user profile, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-corrupted-user-profile#1TC=windows-7
If you just want to copy files from the ALICE user to user BOB,
- Connect you as a user with "Computer administrator" privileges (this could be ALICE, BOB or another account)
- Go to C:\Users\Alice\Documents, right click on desired folders or files and select copy
- Go to C:\Users\Bob\Documents and paste files or folders you copies
Always use 'Copy' rather than 'move '. After you have determined that the files were copied successfully to their new location, you can go back and delete them from the old location.
For other than documents files, replace
C:\Users\
\Music C:\Users\
\Pictures C:\Users\
\Videos etc.

Transfer data to the new computer.
My old mother card computer went bad, but the hard drive is OK. How can I transfer files and setting from the old hard drive to the new computer. Both are running Windows 7. I installed the old hard drive in the new computer.
Hi JohnWise1943,
If the hard disk is installed on the same computer, you can use the hard drive as a second partition to access the files.
You can also visit this link and ignore the title and return Let me fixit myself and instead of locating the folder Windows.old, you can use the same method and transfer files from an old to a new hard drive.

If you need to transfer files and settings, it must be plugged into another computer, and you can use the Windows easy transfer to transfer files:

Adding a hard drive from windows xp to a windows vista computer
Computer XP
AMD athlon 64 x 2 3600 (two CPUS to 1.9 GHz each)
Radeon 4670 1gig
3gigs of ram
Windows XP
Unknown motherboard
drive hard 300gig (I'm not sure on the details on the brand or type)Vista computer
AMD Athlon 64 x 2 5000 (two-processor 2.6 GHz each)
GeForce 9500 GT
4Gigs of ram
Vista home 6.0 (im not sure if it's a 32 or 64)
power of 500 watts
drive hard 300gig (also not sure about the details)I want to do the xp drive the master that I just can't stand vista at all. More my xp disc has some programs and files that I don't have a CD for and will need to download to replace and with my internet slow (150 KB/s max), it would take days.
Is it possible to go from drives like that?
Or at least make the xp programs I want transfer on vista drive and a secondary? or maybe set it up as a dual boot (im not sure what that means) and as a side note, I no longer have my windows xp CD, is there a way to replace those?
Hello
1. If came pre-installed XP (Dell, HP, etc.) it is an OEM license and is linked to the original computer on which it was installed.
An OEM license is not transferable.
2. even if XP is a retail license, chances are he wouldn't start the Vista machine as hard drive XP still installed the motherboard drivers "old."
You will probably need to do a clean install of XP.
3. you cannot transfer installed programs.
You will need to reinstall them from the original (CD, DVD or Net downloads) media.
See you soon.

PC, Lr, folders, Action: moving files/folders on the hard disc autour, download WARNING "move files on the disc, if you continue, this move... change... can be undone. question: my original files will be damaged? If so, how can I move files? Thank you
No problem. I think that the warning means that you will not be able to use Undo to bring back the pictures and it will have to do it manually. There is no risk of corruption.

For a few years, I have been using a set of VPC on external hard drives (.vmc files both .vhd located on external drives) with the Microsoft Virtual PC/Virtual PC Console on a Windows XP computer. They worked perfectly.
However, I just bought a new computer with Windows 7, and I'm unable to access the VPC on the external hard drive. I installed successfully, Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode on the computer, and I copied the file to the host machine's .vmc. However, when I try to open the virtual computer, I get a message saying that the VPC was "impossible to write in one of its virtual hard disks.
I've tried everything I can think of, but the only thing that works is to copy the .vmc and .vhd in the computer file. The problem is that I use the VPC for training online, and I have 16 of them. If I copy everything in the computer, I will use all 500 GB of disk space.
There must be a way to access the VPC for external drives. If I can do it on the old XP computer, it should be possible to do it on the new Windows 7 computer.
Help, please.
Thank you!
