Address book seized semiautomatic retains errors in history

I corrected a typo on an address in my address book. AutoComplete displays the address of the old/bad as well as the new address. The old address is not yet in my address book. It must be in a history file from somewhere. How to reset the history or if the research is current addresses?

There is no history of address book. Search all your address books to the wrong address, including collected addresses.

I just downloaded IE 8 and it has completely corrupted my Outlook Express. My address book is missing and the error message says that I have to reinstall Outlook Express. How can I do this?

    Hi Geloffusa,

    1. What is the exact error message you are getting?

You can try the following steps and check.

Step 1: Rename the Windows address book file

    a. click on start-> Search-> all files or folders.

    b. in the "All or part of the file name", type: "*.wab" (without the quotes).

    c. define the area look in to include your local hard drives, and then click search.

NOTE: If you find more than one .wab file, make the following changes for all files.

    d. click the file .wab you find. On the file menu, click Rename.

    e. Type "oldaddress.old" and press ENTER.

    f. open Outlook Express and check.

Step 2: Edit the registry and save dll files

    a. click on start-> Run, in the Open box, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) and then click OK.

    b. navigate to the following registry key and delete it:

    -HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB

    -HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WAB

    c. Remove wab32.dll and wab32res.dll in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System

    d. Click Start-> Run, in the Open box, type "msimn /reg" and then click OK.

    e. Click Start-> run, type "regsvr32 «c:\Program files\Common Files\System \wab32.dll»»

    f. Click Start-> run, type "regsvr32"c:\Program files\outlook express\oeimport.dll.

    g. click on start-> run, type "regsvr32"c:\Program files\outlook express\wabimp.dll.

Important: The above mentioned steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps from the link below:

  • I can't add new contacts in my address book, I get an error message. Any suggestions why this should have happened?

For the last two weeks, I've been unable to add new contacts in my address book. I just get an error message? My husband who is on the same laptop is still able to do this. Very strange.

I use Windows Mail. I think I've sorted the problem. My husband had copied my contact list at his side. so the contacts were shown on both sides I copied since their return to the mine and the problem seems to have been resolved.

  • Error message: "the address book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install. "at the start of XP and the machine.

After uninstalling my XPSp3 o.e., I started getting the following error message: "the address book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install. "at the start of XP and the machine.

Uninstalling included 7 entries registry to remove all the * files dbx and files *.wab addressbook, except himself. After uninstalling and receipt of the error message above, I tried to use my CD of XP OS to re - install O.E. as a component of Microsoft without success.

I upgraded to Outlook 2007 and imported to the address book of O.E. successfully before uninstalling.

Please advise me how to get rid of the error message always appearing at startup.

    Thank you

You can't really uninstall and reinstall OE without having to reinstall XP as OE is a part of it. I hope your foray into the registry does not require a reinstall of XP.

You now have the DBX files? WAB files?

  • Address book does not load in OutLook Express

Operation of a limited account, Outlook Express cannot open the address book with
    the following messages:
    (1) the address book failed to load. Outlook Express s wrong
    configured, please re-install.
    (2) unable to open the address book. The address book cannot be
    installed correctly.

However, if the limited account is changed to an administrator account
    are no problem.

There are two accounts on the PC; HP_Administrator and User1. User1 is the
the problem account. HP_administrator has administrator privileges
and if User1 receives administrative privileges, and then I noticed that the two accounts
use the same address book. In other words, Outlook Express
"-> Addresses--> help on address book" in the two accounts show

    C:\Documents and Data Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Administrator.wab

    used as the address book.

This seems incorrect. I would expect Admin to be replaced by HP_Administrator
or User1 in the path above, according to the account that Outlook Express has been
Run from. It seems that the operating system is configured to use the address book above,
regardless of the account running Outlook Express. If User1 is a limited account
It is not possible to view the location of the address book due to the error that
is happening, but I suspect that Outlook Express attempts to access the address book
above and a problem arises due to try limited permissions User1 account
to access the address book in the folder of the administrator.

Windows XP with service pack 2 is the operating system and of its Outlook Express 6.

What do I do so that Outlook Express can operate successfully in the
    limited account User1.

The problem has been resolved. I wrote the solution for people
who, like me, have no experience with the Windows operating system.

The sites of these links must be read. For Outlook express
    http://www.insideoe.com,

    more precisely

    http://www.insideoe.com/files/WAB.htm.

For more information about the registry and how to change the following two sites
provide the necessary information and should be read carefully.

    (1) http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/learn-how-use-windows-registry-editor-regedit-one-easy-lesson.htm

    (2) http://pcsupport.about.com/od/termsr/p/registrywindows.htm
(You will find other useful links on this site)

A single note; There are different sets of keys "HKEY_CURRENT_USER", 1 set for each
account. To change a "HKEY_CuRRENT_USER" key for the user account, you must be
    logged in as user.

In the registry, the key to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4\Wab file name.
contains the path of the address book used by Outlook Express, for
the account that you are logged.

When logged on as a user and by examining the registry with regedit

    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB/WAB4\Wab file name.

    the value

    C:\Documents and Data Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Administrator.wab.

Given that the user is a limited account, user doesn't have the privilege to access the address book in this
location, which led to the errors listed in the original post. The solution is to
change this path. Using regedit path has changed to

    C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\User.wab.

C:\Documents and Settings\nom being the folder root for the user account, the user has
the privilege to access the address book to the new location. Outlook express has been
then be able to access the address book.

Upon reflection, it seems to me that the above solution is just a symptom, and not the cause.
The original question, in fact, should be:

How the system is configured so that when a new account is created the new account
will use an address book to

    C:\Documents and Account\Application Book\New Account.wab Data\Microsoft\Address CAB.

    Instead of

    C:\Documents and Data Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Administrator.wab,.

It should not be necessary to change the registry for each new account.

  • Outlook Express: "address book failed to load. OE is configured incorrectly, please reinstall.

Windows XP Home Edition. Suddenly cannot open my email. I searched the *.wab file and the 'read only' box is not checked. It is said that it has been changed a few days ago. I remember deleting an address duplicate at this time. What would I do? How should I do?

  • Problems with Outlook Express (address book, mail open, etc.)

Hi, I have a strange problem with my outlook express. The program opens ok, it synchronize the e-mail with the servers and so on. If you click on an email in the upper part of the window you can see the content below.
Now, this is my problem, I can not doubleclick on an email to open it, I can't send an email or forward it. I can't open the address book.
I get different messages, "it was not possible to open the address book, it cannot be installed correctly", "the message could not be opened, an error has occurred", "it was not possible to load the due address book that Outlook Express is not properly configured. Reinstall Outlook Express"and so on.
I used this software for many years and the problem came from one day to the other. I tried to uninstall/reinstall the program from the Control Panel, I did a repair on XP installation, but it is always the same, is there anyone who has an idea (I know that Outlook Express is and old program, but it works very well for my needs).

    What about Nils

First, try a new identity and see if that helps.

You may have a damaged identity especially if it's the default main identity. File | Identity | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the main word in the name of the new identity.

I use the Palm Desktop software with copyright 1992-2001.  I've initially used a Palm IIIxe, but not used for years. However, I found that the address book was helpful on my desktop computer that is running Windows XP.  I had left my computer over the weekend and had used with LogMeIn on my computer at home, as I often did in the past; However, I did not open the Palm Desktop address book last weekend.  When I went to access yesterday, I got the above error message.  Of course, the manual provided with the software and the Palm IIIxe had no recommendation on how to fix this error.  I don't even know if I still have the original IIIxe Palm and even if I do, I think that it stops working.  Does anyone know how to restore the database?  Help!

Glad you were able to recover at least what you were doing.  The primary data file has been damaged and there is no way to recover that.  The presumption with Palm Desktop, it's that synchronize you with a portable device that would have been able to replace the copy damaged on the desktop with the current version.  Because that has not been done, the .bak file is based on the last synchronization.  At least you have that.

If you hold that current file recreated data, your best bet is to make a copy of occasional backup of it, perhaps on a flash drive.  You can also export a copy of it (check the menu file in Palm Desktop for your export options).

And then, for an amount reasonable, you could probably purchase a device Palm of opportunity on eBay or elsewhere, to Hotsync with.  I suggest you a Palm TX.  My data backup only with Hotsync in my office, but also directly to a SD card installed on the device.  This backup on SD is done automatically every day, and if something happens to your handheld data loss, I'm about 45 seconds a full restore from the SD card.  I like the redundancy.
