  I have acquired an old laptop from my former employer that they would get rid of. However when I went to install an operating system updated, I can't do it.

  I don't have administrator privledges, and I don't know the BIOS password on the system.

  To install another OS, you should be able to do a clean install, rather than upgrading existing installation where you do not know the current OS passwords.  In other words, format the HARD drive and start over.

  The BIOS password is another problem - there is no way to clear a supervisor/administrator password, unless you know what is the password.
