Administration of the ASA via IPSec VPN

Recently, I upgraded my ASA5505 8.2.1 7.2 and curiously lost the ability to manage a VPN (via ASDM or SSH) unit. Before the upgrade, I was able to connect via a method without problem through the VPN. Internally, I still have no problem.

The fault on the ASDM client message when I try to connect to remote is "Impossible to launch the 10.x.x.x:4444 Device Manager." If I look at the output of the console mode of information, I see later that there is a "completed by interception TCP Flow' regarding the conversation between ASA and my system remotely.

The config lines are (I've got running on 443 webvpn):

http server enable 4444

255.x.x.x http inside 10.x.x.x

http 192.x.x.x outside 255.x.x.x

The 192 is located the beach DHCP VPN that get VPN clients (and I checked) such that these systems are able to connect to the ASDM or SSH management interface.

Is there another ACL I need to make this work? Not sure why it worked without problem on 7.2 and as soon as I upgraded to 8.2.1, he stopped, without changing the config (manual).

Thanks in advance for the help!

Point VPN network ssh interface inside rather than the outside, should work, while vpn - ssh to the asa inside the ip address of the interface.

without ssh 192.x.x.x 255.x.x.x outdoors.

SSH 192.x.x.x 255.x.x.x inside.

We have configured a site 5, site to site VPN scenario.   Last week, we have upgraded 2 devices ASA 5505 to 8.4.2.   Before the upgrade, our monitoring software would ping the inside interface from remote devices to confirm VPN tunnels were established, as well as the addresses of remote devices and the outside of the ASA.   While we were on 8.2, remote equipment successfully ping the inside interface.   After that we went to 8.4.2 we can do a ping to this interface.   We looked at the newspapers and we see the ICMP traffic that is listed in the newspaper, but the remote equipment does not receive back icmp traffic.   We can ping successfully from local hardware interface inside and the external interface of remote devices successfully.  In addition, we can ping material behind the two devices in both directions successfully.

We are unable to remotely manage the device through the VPN tunnel

    Hey Joseph,.

Most likely, you hit this bug:

    CSCtr16184            Details of bug
To-the-box traffic switches vpn hosts after upgrade to 8.4.2.
    Symptom:
After the upgrade of the ASA to 8.4.2 all management traffic to employment (including the)
ICMP/telnet/ssh/ASDM) hosts via the VPN (L2L or remote access VPN) can
fail the IP access address to the administration. Conditionsof :
    1. the problem occurs if ASA is on 8.4.2. Not been seen on 8.4.1.
    2. the user directly logged in the face of internal interfaces no problem with
ICMP/telnet/ssh/AMPS in their respective interfaces. Workaround:
The problem goes back to a Manual NAT statement that straddles the
address IP-access to the administration. The NAT must have both the
source areas and destination. Add the keyword "research route" at the end of
the statement by NAT solves the problem. Ex:
IP address access to the administration Interface of the ASA is 192.168.1.1. ! Statement by NAT overlapping:
NAT obj destination - 192.168.1.0 obj - 192.168.1.0 Shared source (indoor, outdoor)
    VPN-vpn-obj static obj! New declaration:
NAT obj destination - 192.168.1.0 obj - 192.168.1.0 Shared source (indoor, outdoor)

  • How to move the ASA of IPSEC VPN via UDP to TCP

I have a client who has a remote desktop with 2 PCs than VPN in to their location of HQ. Previously, two computers where in different places now that they are in the same place. Both PC's are able to successfully establish a VPN connection to the CA by using the Version of the Client VPN Cisco 5.0.07.0290, but only 1 system actually passes the traffic and is able to access the resources at Headquarters.

I asked another engineer, and they said ' you must configure IPSEC over TCP or use Anyconnect to have multiple clients behind the same PAT' public ed remote ip address... ". ». I would go with IPSEC for TCP connection, so I won't have to uninstall the old client and go through the process of installing the AnyConnect client. Here is the configuration of the ASA 5505 thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello

    You can try adding

    Crypto isakmp nat-traversal 30

    And test connections

I think that you need to add to use the TCP protocol

    Crypto isakmp ipsec-over-tcp 10000

You will also need to change the Transparent tunnel setting on the profile of Client VPN software to use TCP instead of option of NAT/PAT.

  • Connected to the ASA via the "VPN Client" software, but cannot ping devices.

I have a network that looks like this:

I successfully connected inside the ASA via a software "Client VPN" tunnel network and got an IP address of 10.45.99.100/16.

I am trying to ping the 10.45.99.100 outside 10.45.7.2, but the ping fails (request timed out).

On the SAA, including the "logging console notifications" value, I notice the following message is displayed:

"% 305013-5-ASA: rules asymmetrical NAT matched for flows forward and backward; "Connection for icmp src, dst outside: 10.45.99.100 inside: 10.45.7.2 (type 8, code 0) rejected due to the failure of reverse path of NAT.

I have a vague feeling that I'm missing a NAT rule of course, but not all. What did I miss?

Here is my configuration of ASA: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=ad6p1Zac

    Hello

You seem to have a configured ACL NAT0 but is not actually in use with a command "nat"

    You would probably need

NAT (inside) 0-list of access inside_nat0_outside

    He must manage the NAT0

Personally, I would avoid using large subnets/networks. You probably won't ever have host behind ASA who would fill / 16 subnet mask.

I would also keep the pool VPN as a separate network from LANs behind ASA. The LAN 10.45.0.0/16 and 10.45.99.100 - 200 are on the same network.

  • ASA5505: Configure the ASA for IPSec and SSL VPN?

    Hello-

I currently have my 5505 for SSL AnyConnect VPN connections Setup.  Is it possible to set up also the 5505 for IPSec VPN connections?

So, basically my ASA will be able to perform SSL and IPSec VPN tunnels, at the same time.

    Thank you!

    Kim,

Yes, you can configure your ASA to support the AnyConnect VPN IPSec connections and at the same time.  In short, for the configuration of IPSec, you should configure at least a strategy ISAKMP, a set of IPSEC, encryption, tunnel group card processing and associated group policy.

  • How to administrate SRP547W via IPSec VPN?

    Hello

I have a SRP547Ws network connected with VPN IPSec site-to-site. But I can't access the page of loging remote administrator of the SRP547s via the VPN. Y at - it a setting or a method I should use?

I looked at the parameters of remote administration, but this seems to be rather the IPSec VPN for their administration through the WAN interface

    Thank you

    Hi Michael,

It is a known issue with the current version.  It will be fixed with the release next deadline next month.

    Kind regards

    Andy

  • 9.0 can a dynamic nat be used via ipsec vpn?

9.0 can a dynamic nat be used via ipsec vpn?

We have a vpn and work between asa and when we run traffic through a static nat rule traffic goes over the vpn. When we use a dynamic nat traffic does not get picked up by the ACL vpn.

We disable the nat rules to switch back and just so, even when we use the same destination to source the result is the same.

Am I missing something with 9.0 versions of code? If I disable all the nats and pass traffic it goes via the vpn.

So, it seems that when you use the dynamic nat statement, it pushes traffic to the external interface without looking at the acl of vpn. Please let me know if I'm crazy, I'm a newb on 8.3 zip code.

    Thank you

Have you included in the ACL crytop natted ip address or range?

You allowed natted ip address or range to the other end of the tunnel?

I can connect to the ASA using the cisco VPN client and internet works fine on the local PC, but it can not access the local network (can not impossible. ping remote desktop). I tried the same thing on our Production ASA(those have both Remote VPN and Site-to-site VPN working), the new profile, I created worked very well.

Captures we can see packets going from the pool to the internal LAN, but we do not reply back packages.

The routing must be such that for 172.16.10.0/24 packages should reach the inside interface of the ASA.

On client machines or your internal LAN switch, you need to add route for 172.16.10.0/24 pointing to the inside interface of the ASA.

  • ASA Cisco IPSEC VPN tunnel has not managed the traffic

    Hi guys

I am trying to set up a new connection IPSEC VPN between a Cisco ASA 5520 (verion 8.4 (4)) and Checkpoint Firewall. I managed to establish the phases IKE and IPSEC and I can see the tunnel is UP. But I can't see any traffic through the tunnel. I checked the cryptomap both ends and try to test with a contionuous ping from within the network of the SAA.

I made a screenshot of ICMP packets but cannot see in ASA. I welcomed the icmp inside ASA interface.

I did a package tracer and it ends with a fall of vpn - filter the packets. But can not see any configured filters...

    Your help is very appreciated...

    Thank you

You probably need to add nat negate statements:-something like.

    object-group network OBJ / remote

You are running 8.4 nat 0 has been amortized

  • Cisco ASA 5510, ipsec vpn. What address to connect the client to

    Hello

It's maybe a stupid question, but I can't find the answer anywhere.

I used the ipsec vpn configuration wizard, I activated the external interface to access ipsec and went through SCW pools of addresses etc. When I try to connect with the cisco vpn client to my address of the external interface (of a remote host) I'm unable to connect. I scanned the interface for open ports, but there is not, I have to allow traffic to ipsec at this interface?

    Best regards

    Andreas

No, once you have configured the access remote vpn ipsec, it will be automatically activated, and you should be able to connect to the ASA outside the ip address of the interface.

Can you please share the configuration? and also which group name you are trying to access the vpn client?

  • The poll by IPSEC VPN SNMP

    Hi all

I am trying to add remote Cisco switches to our Analyzer from Solarwinds network performance and I'm unable to see the community strings of switches behind our Firewall ASA across L2L IPSEC vpn tunnels.

First of all, I can ping and see all the traffic behind the firewall.   Configuration manager (NCM) works fine, it can download and download configs of the remote switches.  It's just the SNMP which does not seem to talk.  Here are the lines of configuration of the remote switches:

    SNMP-server community * RO

    SNMP-server community * RW

This configuration works fine on the other our network switches that are not accessible via a VPN tunnel.  Y at - it another line I need to add that pointing to the server from SolarWinds SNMP traffic?

When I try to add the switch to Solarwinds, he sees the IP perfectly but once I added community strings RO and RW it performs a test fails every time and will not let me continue to add the device.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!  Thank you!

    Matt

Exit to Windows firewall and check the Antivirus on Solarwinds as well. This may be the origin of the problem (a working time or does not not once). Another possibility (can be), if you have all IPS inline and inspect traffic, this could cause the issue. Check to see if any program/device in the path is kinetically limiting ICMP/SNMP packets #of.

    What version of NPM?

  • Cisco recommended for the GRE VIA IPSEC router.

    Hello world

I intend to connect our two remote locations via IPSEC tunnel, looking for the cheapest option available for the router options.

Do you have any good recommendations?

    Have a nice weekend!!

    Very appreciated

    Hello

There is 1 that I love so much, it's 892fsp of Cisco.

It has 8-port switch, you can make l2tp vpn, free will, love, ips, zbf...

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you

Good news, that VPN has been implemented!

According to the ping problem, my suggestion is to check, if some type of firewall based on host computers on both sides block ICMP requests.

Anyway, you can still use the capture of packets on the inside of the interfaces of the two ASAs, to check if the ICMP traffic is to reach the ASA.

In addition, you can try to enable ICMP inspection:

    Policy-map global_policy
    class inspection_default

    inspect the icmp

    inspect the icmp error

  • ASA 5505 ipsec vpn connection fails

    Hello

I'm trying to configure a Cisco ASA 5505 for Remote Clients.

I use the ASDM interface and used assistants start and ipsec for my setup, but im hit a stumbling block.

To last make it work 2 days I have tried a number of configuration changes to try to make this work but didn't, so I did a factory reset and passed by the assistants, once again, I have a clean Setup that I hope someone can help me.

Currently I have an IP public static 81.137.x.x and I use a Netgear ADSL router, which transfers (UDP 500) VPN traffic to 192.168.171.35 (port wan on the ASA 5505).

The Cisco ASA has a default address of 192.168.1.1

I use the Cisco Client 5.0.06.0160.

I have configured the client to use authentication group with the same credentials as configuration through the wizard and im using Transparent Tunneling IPSec over UDP.

    I have attached 2 documents

running_config.txt - what is shows the current configuration of ASA

Journal - View.txt - display of error messages displayed in the real-time log viewer when I try to connect from the remote client.

I'm not sure if I need to do on the other that additional configurations for my setup simply run the wizards.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello Philippe,

According to the lines in the journal, there is a problem of routing for ip vpn applicant address. ASA couldn't find the definition of route suitable for the return traffic. Add a default route to unknown destinations could solve this problem. As I see you are using modem netgear as a default gateway for your ASA. I write example of command line for this purpose.

    Route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 NetGear_LAN_IP_Address 1

  • How to get several standard via ipsec vpn subnet?

    Dear all,

    I have this scenario:

    A - Hand router

    Cisco 881

    private network: 10.10.10.0/24

    private address: 10.10.10.2

    address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

    B branch office router

    DrayTek vigor 2600

    private network: 100.100.100.0/24

    private address: 100.100.100.1

    sound: .yyy

    C - seat router

range Cisco 1800 (no access - not mine)

    private network: 10.10.10.0/24

    private address: 10.10.10.1

    D another subnet in HQ

    private network: 10.20.20.0/24

    available in C

There is a standard VPN ipsec from A to B due interoperability and compatibility between cisco and draytek. the vpn is in place and works very well.

    D is accessible from a C: hole

    #ping router ip 10.20.20.15 source vlan 1

    Type to abort escape sequence.
Send 5, echoes ICMP 100 bytes to 10.20.20.15, wait time is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with the address 10.10.10.2 source
    !!!!!
    Success rate is 100 per cent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 52/56/64 ms

    Now, I need reach D from B.

I configured adding the 10.20.20.0/24 routing via vpn subnet B and tested the connection replacing the cisco 881 (A) with an another drytek vigor 2820; Add a static route in the drytek 2820 (10.20.20.0 via 10.10.10.1) make B able to reach successfully the D with ping 10.20.20.15.

After that I tried to divide the acl of tunnel and ping in vain 10.20.20.15 d, I noticed a match in acl:

Router #sh ip access list 101
Expand the access IP 101 list
    10 permit ip 10.10.10.0 0.0.0.255 100.100.100.0 0.0.0.255 (3298 matches)
    20 permit ip 10.20.20.0 0.0.0.255 100.100.100.0 0.0.0.255 (14 matches)

I also tried to prevent NAT from D to B without any match in acl after unsuccessful ping 10.20.20.15 d.

    Any suggestion is appreciated.

    Gianluca

    Hanks for the additional info

So what is happening is the traffic is not getting encrypted, it is hitting the crypto acl but not getting not encrypted

I know you would have checked it already, but please just check once more the entrance to nat and see if you have a deny for this traffic in the acl, nat

We need to know why the tunnel isn't coming for this traffic

could you please confirm wht is crypto ACLs on the other end, that's exactly the mirror image (2 acl), I don't know how the configuration is made at the other end

    give the following debug command

Debug ip counterpart condition crypto / / if you have several tunnels will do conditional debugging

Crypto ipsec its debug debug crypto or her (who was never there I think it's a bit confusing)

one thing you can try if down the tunnel is also an option, just erase this tunnel using cry clear isa his id and disable remote session encryption and bring it and see if it happens

Finally, given that I don't know how the other end is configured just try this as the encryption, ACLs on both ends

    10.0.0.0 0.255.255.255 100.100.100.0 0.0.0.255

and the reverse on the other end and now try to brining of the tunnel to the top
