ADSL modem disconnects when I connect another USB device

I access internet through an ADSL USB modem. If I'm connected to the internet and plug an another USB device, such as the docking station for my PPC or printer, the internet connection drops and I get an error indicating that the modem or another connection device can be used by another application, or there is an error and it takes several minutes and usually a couple of "made up" to get internet.

Is this a problem with the management of USB or is this normal? All devices are plug n play and installed before this error. Usually, I connect the modem to the back and other equipment on the side.

Hello

It really looks like a USB power management issue.
I found this very similar topic:

Turning off power safe mode solves this problem.

I get the message "this device could better work with usb 2.0", how do I change 1.0?

To answer your question directly: you replace with USB 1.0 (most likely USB 1.1) USB 2.0 by the purchase of new equipment.

If you have a desktop computer, you can buy an internal with several Sockets USB 2.0 card.

If you have a laptop, you can get a card with 2 ports USB PC Adapter 2.0

Before you buy anything, however, if you have a desktop computer, it is possible that some (but not all) of your taken USB is 2.0.  Open the Device Manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc > OK), click on the + sign next to the category "Controllers of Bus USB" and watch the 'Host controllers' listed there.  If any host controller is 'enhanced' then you have at least one (and probably 2) USB 2.0 taken somewhere on the computer.

  • Why Windows XP Pro creates another instance of the printer when I connect my USB printer,

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3. I have a HP LaserJet 1100 printer (parallel) through a parallel to USB adapter. It seems that whenever I connect the printer to my laptop, another instance of the printer is created, so I have HP LaserJet 1100 (MS), HP LaserJet 1100 (MS) (1 copy), HP LaserJet 1100 (MS) (copy 2). Only one of these printers may also appear online at the same time. Sometimes I use the laptop in a dock and connect the printer to one of the 2 station USB ports, and sometimes I connect the printer to one of the 2 USB ports on the laptop.

How can I consolidate all of these instances in a single printer so that I can have a consistent default printer? Or, how can I prevent this from happening at all?

    Bruce B, Massachusetts

This happens because you have connected the printer to different USB ports.  The same thing happens when you connect any device (e.g., a mouse) on different USB ports, but unlike "Printers and faxes," Device Manager shows only the devices not present ("ghost") if deliberately do you.

If having the extra icons printers and faxes you, right-click on it and select "Delete" - and then always connect your printer to the USB port.

  • WRT54GS2 and Siemens ADSL modem - give up Internet connection

I have a problem with the internet connection. I have a Win98 Office connected directly to a DSL - SIEMENS Speetstream 4100 modem. This connection works well.

I had a (old school, blue and black) WRT54G wireless router connected to it which enabled me to use my laptop Windows XP Home. I upgraded the router to a WRT54GS2 so now I lose the internet connection every minute or so while connected through that. The connection between the modem and the router goes down, not connecting to desktop (wireless) or the laptop. And if I switch to the direct connection through modem, I get a solid and reliable connection to the Internet.

Is there a problem with the ADSL of SIEMENS modem and the Linksys router plays well together?

I tried ipconfig/release and / renew on my laptop and desktop, I disabled all computers, modem or router and put power back in the right order: Modem, router, desktop and laptop.

Why the new WRT54GS2 loses internet connectivity when a direct connection through modem loses no connectivity and the former was reliable?

    Thanks in advance.

Your ADSL modem is in Bridge mode. He made the PPPoE connection and then transmits the IP addresses, etc. via DHCP on the connected device. Several people seem to have problems with these modems and different routers.

I suggest you to that you reconfigure the ADSL modem in full bridge mode (i.e. the modem really works as a simple modem and does not connect to the internet itself). Full bridge mode, you should be able to configure your router with PPPoE and connect directly to the internet. This should work better.

If the ADSL modem is smart enough it can automatically switch in full bridge mode if you configure the router for PPPoE.

You should see the difference in the DNS servers that got the router. Half-bridge mode modem ADSL seems to assign its own IP 192.168.0.1 as DNS server address. If you connect directly to your ISP, you should see the IP addresses of the DNS servers of your ISP.

Even when there is no single USB device installed (normally, I have a mouse and a Targus laptop cooling mat installed as USB devices), it keeps popping up. I tried to remove the USB port from the list (or uninstall) in the remote control, but it seems that it keeps happening.

I got it all of a sudden, I have nothing specific to has not logged any strange devices (except for a spotlight on exit external screen, but this has nothing to do with USB). I also hear the sound for the connection / disconnection USB devics randomly when I'm on my laptop.

  • ESXi 6 - unable to connect the USB device to VM

    Hi people:

I have a problem with a specific USB 3 device to try to connect to a virtual computer.  The device is a Toshiba USB 3 5 TB hard drive, and it is recognized by ESXi I see when I do a lsusb command, but it is never offered as a choice available to connect to a virtual computer.  I tried to restart management agents, restart ESXi with the connected device so that it is immediately detected at startup.  I tried using the web client to vcenter server appliance and the native client C.  She just never appears as a choice just as if it is not there.  Other USB 3 devices, including a Startech gigabit network device and another 2 TB Toshiba USB drive appear as a choice, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with USB 3 devices as a whole.  I have connected to other computers and even an Arch Linux VM under the same ESXi which has a Startech USB 3 connected via PCI Passthrough controller and it works in all places.  I tried to connect to a USB 2 port just for the heck of it, and I got the same result (invisible to virtual machines) here is what information I have via the newspapers.  I see a few entries on the device being suspended in the vmkernel journal, but I don't know if it is normal for a device until it is assigned to a virtual computer.

Any ideas what is wrong or how to fix welcome.

Hi guys, I just had the same issue and it resolved on my test environment.

I got the device ID using "lsusb".

Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0480:d011 Toshiba America information. Systems, Inc..

where 0480:d011 is the device ID

    Then ran the following command:

    oddities s esxcfg-module = 0480:d011:i usb-storage

After a reboot I was able to cross the device for my VMs.

I'm not an expert in this field, as far as I can understand of this thread: problem mit USB Passthrough (eine andere nicht, geht HDD) - to vSphere5 / ESXi 5.0 5.1 - VMware Forum und "usb-storage" module crashes when you try to access the drive and does not pass through to the arbitrator of the usb. The person in this thread turns off the usb storage but I boot from USB and so I couldn't do it. Steal the idea of this thread: zero calorie tech deals: VMFS formatted USB sticks in VMware vSphere 5.1 I could exclude the USB from the usb-storage module device (I think).

I have not tested how this affects other features, but initial test is positive.

  • My computer out of the mode standby when I unplug a usb device.

When my computer is in sleep mode and I have to disable my printer or disconnect a usb device, it turns on. Is there a way I can prevent this?

    Hello

The system responds to those, as if you had moved the mouse. I know no way to change those.

  • USB connection for USB device failed

    Hello

    I have VMware Workstation 7.2 in Win 7 x 64 OS later.

I want to use the USB-to-Serial Connector but my host OS cannot recognize the driver. This connector works with Win XP, so I don't think that there is a hardware failure.

Then I tried running XP machine in VMware workstation, but when I map this USB on XP VM with message

USB to USB Device "Composite Device" connection failed - driver error.

Do I need to have a good driver on host to the USB VM card operating system? or the device! mark in the Device Manager in the host OS cannot be mapped to VM? or the USB device must be properly recognized by host operating system, as the device is suitable for USB Serial device not Composite?

    Any solution?

    Thank you

It is a known problem in workstation 7

in some cases this can be corrected - in most cases it cannot

    recommended workaround: use Workstation 6.5.5

  • Equium P200-1ED is capable of powering connected on USB devices?

    (1) possibly associated with my previous question - what is someone able to confirm if the Toshiba Equium P200-1ED is able to power external devices connected via its USB ports?

    (2) all 6 USB ports can supply simultaneously 6 external USB devices?

    What's wrong?

    Please notify.

I assume you ask again for advice related to this issue:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/message.jspa?MessageID=115026#115026

To my knowledge, all USB ports supports the USB standard and provides 500mA.
But sometimes a USB device requires more than 500 my and then you will have to use an external power supply for the USB device.

Sometimes it s advisable to use a USB hub that supports clean power.

    (2) can all be used 6 USB ports to power simultaneously 6 external USB devices?
As I said, the external USB devices possibly some 3rd would need more like 500mA and in this case, you must use an external power supply to USB devices.

    Good bye
