  • My first iMac - must provide advice on Protection antivirus and backup please

    Hi all

So after 30 years of use of windows pc I finally had my first iMac

I am pleasantly satisfied how the iMac is easy to use although I have a few questions noob:

1 / I have to install anti-virus on my iMac software? one of the reasons why I chose the Mac is because of its superior security, but I still have to form any antivirus, and if yes what do you recommend?

2 / the iMac has it built in the hard disk recovery partition? I have not been invited to do a backup am so that a little worried if everything should go pear shaped I wouldn't have a backup to restore. If not, should I create a backup and how would I go about this?

    Thank you very much

    Luke

Luke, no protection against the virus. Is the same for the cleaning of the apps and most of the other third-party utilities. Maintain OSX and using good sense practical computer course and you will be fine. Watch where you click.

For backups Time Machine from Apple is better IMO.  Get an external hard drive 2 to 3 times the size of your internal drive and let Time Machine is something. The first backup may take a while, but subsequent backups occur every hour in the background. you won't know what is going on. The end Pondini can be your guide for all time Machine http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

  • Antivirus - advice succeeded pls...

    Hi all

What is the best way to run a managed solution to AV on View4?   I therefore test everything first cloned pools persistent connections, I'm guessing that you will install the software AV (via the management console) after that the workstations are provided - is it the right approach?

I am allowed to use Sophos EM library, or Fsecure, + Policy Manager and I do not have any budget to move to another AV solution, hpe, then use one of these solutions.

    All advice appreciated.

No, she refreshes the UID after customization when the machine is supplied, works extremely well

  • Norton Antivirus slows down startup time in Windows Vista

    Hello

need help please, I am led to madness by starting slow time of my laptop.
I he had only a few weeks and don't use it for anything beyond to produce documents word etc.

It has been gradually slower on boot and I suspect it has something to do with the protection of Norton antivirus on it software and updates for norton I downloaded (thinking that it was the right thing to do).

Looking at the log for problems and solutions on the computer, the date on which he began really to slow coincides with downloading an update to norton, which I could not uninstall to check if that's really the problem.

In addition, I tried to do a system restore, my laptop could not complete.
I'm stuck on the screen of the BACK for 10 minutes with the message:
PXE - E32 TFTP open timeout

I have no idea what it means, but the newspaper issues and Solutions said something about a blocking of the system?

I looked on the web for other virus protection software and they all seem to have a problem or slow computers and another down to the start.

Did someone knows a solution or should I just make a cup of tea when I turn on my computer and lace with vodka until it is fully charged to the top!

I am a novice when it comes to using computers so would like to receive technical advice.

    Thank you
    Laura

    Hi guys

I would like to add a few words about my experience using the Symantec Norton Antivirus software.
I used this software long 3 years. It was great because it supports one of the best options for filtering viruses, BUT it really slow downs the operating system.
I didn t use on preinstalled Vista laptop but on Win XP and I must say that the laptop boot process was stopped about 30 sec - 1 min until the entire parts of Norton Antivirus software has started, it is very annoying

However, I went to AntiVir. It is described by marina4000 software and I really happy because the startup performance of m.

So finally, I also recommend delete this Symantec Norton Antivirus software and switch to other free AntiVir software ;)

    Good bye

  • What is the best antivirus, spyware software etc.

Please can someone help me. I bought a laptop Satellite Pro M40, which is beautiful and installed Norton Internet Security 2006 and Ad-aware, however, I am so paranoid since going on broadband because of Trojans and spyware invade my pc. I posted another message because I control panel open as a shadow image in the background so did a complete reinstall using Toshiba disc, now another shadow appeared when online called Padtouch_wndllabel. I hear that spyware can disguise himself as other progs. I need real help base really like its all new to me, but wonder if there is any other protection measures I can take to check if my laptop has been infected or stop it in the future? -without going into the registry etc files? Maybe I should post this sub forum Satellite Pro that would be better?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

    Beavis

    Hey Beavis,

I hope you enjoy your new laptop! Regarding the "best" antivirus and anti-spyware, there are unfortunately no one answer. Of course, having a protection is better than nothing, so you have installed Norton security suite is a very good start indeed.

Personally, I use a number of anti-spyware, including SE Ad-aware, SpyBot Search Destroy programs & and Windows Defender from Microsoft. All this should be happy along the other, but it is very important that you have only one anti-virus program does need to 'control' over the flow of data in and out of your computer. More than a performer normally leads to each program struggling against each other, usuallymaking the computer unusable in the process.

The seedbed thing to remember with any of these programs is that the regular updates and analysis of the system are the key to catch any visitors natsy - try once a week to start and see how you go from there.

The other "trick" is to be sensitive to what you do on the internet: by clicking on 'Yes' to all these ads, or accepting what, you haven't read or heard invites the spyware on your system.

I hope this does not sound too confusing or put you off using your new computer to its full potential - if you're not sure, just after here on the forums. If it's going to save you from frustration and concern, there is no such thing as a stupid question.

Good luck, enjoy, and I hope this was help...

  • Install sophos antivirus?

Can someone tell me how to install this sophos antivirus on my iPhone 5?  I tried different ways, but it is not yet available for the App Store and when I try to download it directly I get a message "Safari cannot connect to the Servetus.  I know it is available for mobile phones, but I can't do it.

I would be grateful if advice thanks in advanc.

You can not download anything other than from the app store. If it is not in the app store, then you can not get it.

He didn't need an anti virus. There is no virus affecting iPhones.

  • Is antivirus a good idea for phones?

Just ask, and I can't find anything already validated by research, the use of an antivirus on these phones application. My husband and I were discussing whether or not we need to install an and if so, which. We know better than to open emails and especially attachments from unknown sources and do not download applications from unverified sources. Someone at - it advice on that?

Well, I think that my opinion is a little different. I don't really believe in anti-virus for Android. All applications are run in a sandbox, so they can't do any damage to the phone software. This does mean that apps can't do things that we don't want. If you do your homework on an application before installing and it has good reviews and a lot of downloads then chances are very high that it is a good software.

Applications antivirus really only check applications that you have installed against a list of known applications that are a problem. For peace of mind, you can install a. I personally don't have one and never have. The Android OS is not like Windows. Windows is inherently going to have viruses. Android/linux is a different beast altogether.

Another good rule is not to install apps that are not in the game store. You can, but you should be absolutely sure that you can trust the people or you have the application from source. It's really safer to do this simply do not. Apps on the Store of the game are set up so that Google can automatically uninstall them from your phone if they find a malicious. They have done this before and would again, I'm sure that, if needed.

If you feel more uncomfortable one then there isn't any reason for not having one. They also usually have other features in them that make them useful in other ways as well. It's all about your personal preferences and your own peace of mind. You have yourself to pleasure before everyone else. I hope this helps.

  • 4 days ago, I asked if someone could help with a VIRUS of ROOT KIT in 8. What about the root kit advice at all?

Microsoft technical support does not have to deal with such a question of virus it early- and the whole reason I tried Windows 8 was to see if I could work to use it. The virus just kept hit me offline on others so I wasn't able to work for more than 40 days!

Of course, this strategy has worked and I'm beginning to really love 8. But I have installed and reinstalled XP, Vista and 7, so many times trying to control this thing all my files are backup players. The line at the bottom is so, does anyone have solid advice on how to get rid of a kit root on ANY operating system, IE one makes it easier than the other, and how do you get rid of a virus of root? They are invisible to all except unix software.
    Thanks for all the ideas,
    Tom

Low level formatting (zero / filling/zero-write) to aid diagnosis and utilities bootable from the hard drive manufacturer.  Install your operating system, your application antivirus and anti malicious app of choice.  Computer practice of common sense.

  • After restoring, what now? Impossible to install antivirus

reovery worked very well after that I followed the wrong advice and deleted records of the mouse and keyboard.  I left windows perform updates, upgrade hp help e-mail downloads, but I can't get an antivirus program to install.  has worked with their technology and delete all the recovered antiviral software but then?  did I forget something?

The exact model can be hard to find sometimes.  There is a serial number or a sticker on the bottom of the laptop that has a model, product name, or p/n number and a serial number.  You can use the name model number or product to find drivers and software on hp.com.   It will be latest available if you run just a factory restore.

There is a tool "detect my model" here: http://www.hp.com/#Support

In addition, microsoft/windows update is essential to protect the PC against threats.  Install all essential or important Microsoft updates.

  • Red Shield saying that there is no antivirus running, open MSE program and he said he was running. MSE now turned Orange, cannot operate.

Original title: security essentials says it works but the pc says that it is not

I thought that my problem is solved and discussed the problems of configuration with Elizabeth.  It now appears that CCleaner or malware bytes and super anti-spyware has caused a problem with the security essentials.  Until it goes smoothly but tonight, I have a red shield telling me I have no antivirus running.  But if I opened it said it was running.  Orange yellow turned and I can't get working again.

Can anyone give some advice please?  Thank you in advance.

Okay, however, I'm running MSE in real time, MBAM and SAS in request mode.

    CCleaner is also installed.

Everything works fine now, including MSE?

  • C drive full. D drive empty (Windows XP). Any advice?

My C drive is nearly full.  I've removed all the filesetc, empty the recycling bin, defragmented, but still almost full.  My D drive is still empty, what should I do?   I have Windows XP and I am a novice computer so all advice in plain English - please assume total ignorance on my part!   Thank you v much for any help.

    [snipped]

2 remove the temporary files. CCleaner is a great tool for this:
(When you install, uncheck all the boxes that would otherwise install toolbars undesirable, etc..)
    [snipped]
    To the use

CCleaner is a very good tool for this (I use it as well.)   Two small pieces if-

    (1) includes a registry cleaner.  You don't have to bother with that, because unless you know very well what you are doing, you may ruin the various programs.  cleaning the registry won't save much space at all, by any means.  (if you choose to ignore this ensure you allow ccleaner do a place back... but note that this will consume a bit more disk space for the back to the top!)
    (2) If you use MS Security Essentials for your antivirus application, ccleaner cleans up log files THAT MSE uses to keep track of your last scan.  you will warn you that it's been a while and you need to scan... to correct that, uncheck the Antimalware MS and MS Mgmt Console cleaning application ccleaner section.

  • First things to do after Resinstalling Windows (do I run Windows Update first, then install Antivirus or vice versa?)

I reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 from recovery disks provided with the laptop HP. This reformats the disk and restores out of the box.

    When connecting to the internet:

Make all Windows updates before installing the Antivirus/security software? (it comes with a trial version of Norton but I uninstall, I use Kaspersky).

or can I install AV before Windows updates?

    so...

AV before updates or updates of Windows before AV?

    What is the risk?

The last time I did a check, there are 245MB of updates of critical security waits directly after installation. This does not include Service Pack 2. The computer has no patch for the last 5 years.

When you run the update from HP (without AV) I got a bunch of data execution prevention errors and update of HP and Explorer.exe crashes when you try to update the driver chipset via this mechanism.

I am hesitant after that, so a full recovery of the system with HP recovery disks, once again in case I got a virus.

    Data sheet:

    HP 2008 entertainment laptop

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium 32 bit SP1

    Internet Explore 7

    2 GB of Ram

    Intel Core 2 Duo

I want to be sure, please give me some advice on what to do here.

I also do new recovery discs w / software provided to avoid this in the future.

    Thank you!!!

    First, install your anti-virus software.

If service pack 1 is installed, then go straight to the service pack 2, install him alone then untick or clear all other updates, it will still be many updates for, but it should reduce the number.

You can disable your anti virus for installation, usually click or right-click on the AV icon in the taskbar (bottom right of the screen).
