Advice on network VLAN using RV180W

Hello!

I want to create a network that allows to separate the traffic between two or three VLANS. I want to be able to connect wireless using two SSID assigned to VLAN individual. Also, I would be able to extend the zone wireless using a different Access Point. So far, I tried the best solution of equipment and I plan to buy the wireless router RV180W and WAP121 as an extension of Access Point. This configuration is possible on these devices?

The structure of the network should look like this:

The second Point of access on PORT 4 is just a future extension. It is not necessary at the beginning. I just want to know if it will be possible.

I also link 2 PORT VLAN2 and connect it to the computer via Ethernet switch.

Should I do VLAN2 and VLAN3 labeled with PORT3, PORT4?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Michal,

In theory, that you try should work perfectly and Yes, you should make VLANS 2 and 3 tag on ports 3 and 4. Unfortunately, there is a problem with the RV180W which does not work properly with enclosed access points. I hope that this problem will be fixed in a future firmware version, but right now, I can't recommend the router for your particular scenario. Other than that issue, I have like and recommend the RV180W for general use Small Business firwewall/router. There are a few threads on this forum that describe the AP issue more in detail:

https://supportforums.Cisco.com/message/3770136#3770136

https://supportforums.Cisco.com/message/3980504#3980504

The foregoing is not a problem with other SMB wireless routers as far as I know. I recommend that you consider the RV220W which has a better than the RV180W integrated wireless AP. It also has a more powerful processor and is very stable with the latest firmware installed. I tested a RV180W home and ended up buying the RV220W. I found that the scope of my environment was much better with the RV220W.

Answer please if you have any questions.

  • How to configure the different VLANs (using the E3200)?

    Hello.

I want to implement different VLANs (using the E3200) so that I can have two different networks that cannot access each other.

The E3200 is connected to a modem for internet access.

I would like that the two networks to access the internet.

The only E3200 does support the creation of VLANs?

If not, is there another way I can satisfy the requirement by using the single E3200 (using something else than VLANs)?

At the end of the day, I think that I would need at least another router.

    Thus, for example,.

Router a (E3200) is connected to the configuration / modem to DHCP with a rank 192.168.1.1/24 LAN IP address.

Router B is connected to the router and Setup for DHCP by using a LAN IP range 192.168.2.1/24.

This peripheral way connected to the router A should not have access to devices connected to router B and vice versa, correct?  For example, X device connected to the router cannot ping or browse files on the device is connected to router B and vice versa, correct?

Do I need to configure anything else on router B?  For example, do I need the DNS configuration settings so that devices connected to router B can connect to the internet without problem?  Do I need to specify that these VLANs are not bridged and which router, or both?

I already know how to configure a static IP address, DHCP, beaches LAN IP and static DNS settings on a router, etc.

With respect to wireless devices, I think that they would follow the same model; for devices connected to the router wireless (E3200) have access to other devices Wi-wired and connected to the router, but not to devices with or without wire, connected to router B and vice versa.  However, if the wireless devices have currently access to wired devices was also connected to the router, so it's good for now.

    Thank you very much!

    -Rami

The E3200 has no support VLAN according to the manual. There is no way to configure two separate networks with this single router.

You need to add network electronics.

    Ex:

    Managed with VLAN switch

    Another wireless router with VLAN

If your modem provides several public or private IP addresses, then you could put a switch after the modem and two wireless routers that are attached to the switch.

That means "another device on the network use the IP address of your computer"?, that means "another device on the network is using the IP address of your computer?

    A

Most likely, the computer becomes a network address of a router. The assignment of an address ("lease") expires and must be renewed after a certain period of time, which could be an hour or a day. The lease expired without being renewed because the device has been disconnected at the time. Meanwhile, the address has been leased to another device on the network, or maybe the router has not updated its list of addresses the leases. When the device offline comes back online, a conflict results. Depending on the type of router you have, the conflict can resolve itself automatically. If not, then in the menu bar, select please

    ▹ System Preferences network ▹ 

If the preferences window is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Click the Advanced button, and then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Look at the menu option

    Configure IPv4

If the selection in this menu is

    Using DHCP

    Click on the button

    Renew the DHCP lease

    Test.

Make sure that you have more than one DHCP server on the network. That could happen if you have more than one access point Wi - Fi, or if you have a router and broadband a wide device distinct in connection mode sharing.

    B

Less likely, you have a network address that you assigned yourself and another device is itself by assigning the same address. In this case, the selection to configure IPv4 menu will be either manually or using DHCP with manual address. This kind of conflict will not be resolved automatically. You have the following options to solve:

    1. Change the selection in menu using DHCP.
    2. Change the address assigned manually to one that is not used by another device.
    3. Change the address of the other device.

Which of these options you choose depends on the details of why you use a static IP address. Any changes you make to the network settings is necessary before taking effect. To do this, click OK, and then click apply.

If the router is also your device at wide band, then he may be operating in bridged mode. In this case, only one customer at a time will be able to connect to the Internet. Consult the manufacturer or ISP documentation for how to reconfigure the device in the connection mode sharing.

    C

According to a report a "DirectTV" receiver can cause the problem. If necessary, disconnect the device from the network, or power off and test. Consult the support services provider.

  • another computer on your network is using your computer - Hack suspicion - ip address through DHCP lease renewal. Help, please

    Hello fellow Mac users...

Today, while using, Firefox A message appeared on my screen: another computer on your network is using the ip address of your computer.

Now, I am 100% sure that my phone was turned off when it happened. And I have a password on my wifi connection.

I panicked because no one should have access to my network or my IP address. Immediately, I turned off my modem and turned off the wifi on my mac.

Later, I went to renew the DHCP lease.

    My question is this:

Could it be, in theory, based on the message system I (another computer on your network is using the ip address of your computer) the IP address was stolen (for lack of a better word) by a remote user, which is not in my physical neighborhood that is resident in another city or even country?

If so, then I did the right thing by closing my Modem? And later on the DHCP lease renewal? About 20-30 minutes past until what I actually renewed the DHCP lease. It, in theory, could have too late to do (assuming that a malicious user has chosen to masquerade himself with my IP address)?

    Thank you all very much!

original title: Wireless on the Fritz

I have problems wireless on my Acer laptop which has Windows Vista.  I am able to connect to my school of university network and used to connect to my home network (both are networks limited requiring a password or log in).  However, last week my computer stopped connecting to my home network (no one else has this problem with the home network).  I tried to fix the problem, but my computer says that "Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive response from the access point or wireless router."  That said also thatthe connection "(my wireless network)" has been cancelled.  This is perhaps due to a timeout or user action. »

The only different thing I did last week was click option at my University 'connect long-term' instead of 'connect short term' to their wireless network.  Maybe who has messed up my settings?  That's what my University said of his record long term: "students, faculty and staff also have an option to easily record their computer (or other wireless devices), so that it is not necessary to authenticate each day they connect from the network wireless campus, to resources outside the University.»  However, these settings are saved on their network (I can access it online from another computer), so I think it is unlikely that he messed up my settings.

I don't really know what the problem is.  Any ideas as to what I can do?  I don't want to reset my computer everything.

  • ACS 5.3 certificate based access to the network by using AD

    Hello

Is that what someone has implemented certificate based 802. 1 x network access using ACS5.3 & identity authentication outdoor store like AD.

If yes then please let me know as soon as possible.

    Ajay

When you use EAP - TLS AD may come into play in one of two ways

-There is an option to perform a binary comparison on the certificate of the client against a stored in AD (or LDAP)

-It is possible to retrieve ad for the user groups and use this in authorzation

Configuration for this is done as follows:

    (1) establish a profile of certificate authentication:

Users and identity stores > profile of certificate authentication

In the profile to define the "main Username attribute" - attribute that identifies the user

Can optionally select "Perform with certificate certificate binary comparison comes from LDAP or Active Directory"

    (2) if want to do authorization based on groups of ads, then need to create a sequence identity

Users and identity stores > sequence identity store

In 'List of authentication method' select 'Certificate based' and select the profile of step 1

In "Attribute retrieval research additional list", select Active Directory in the list of selected stores

    (3) select the sequence of the identity as the result of identity politics. For example, for the strategy set by default:

Access policies > access > by default access to network > identity

  • 4pnics networks VLAN

    Hello

Well, I am new to vmware.

I have 2 guests and 4 natachasery by each of them and a hitachi storage 10 hus and a hp procurve 2824.

When I do a vlan in esx must be the same number in hp switch?

I would do any other setup in hp except where ports will be to this vlan?

my scenario is 1 Teddy in vlan 10 vmotion and mgmt, 2 natachasery with iscsi VLANs 20 and the other for VMS vlan 30 / vswitches so 3.

so I have a thin client and I want to connect with vlan 30 with the thin client vms.my is connected in the hp switch in vlan 30 / when I want to connect in any other t vlan for example I have a vlan 40 with other virtual machines.

the hp switch automatically routes because it works also in layer 3? is that correct?

the only thing I have to do is in my virtual machine to the network vlan 40 to add.

for example when I in a Teddy 3 VLANS configured in vswitch port in the hp switch needs to be referenced, but when I have a vlan in 1 Teddy bear not tagged to the hp switch?

    Yes

in the routing for gateway what ip I type for the 3 VLAN?

It is up to you.  You must come up with a model of IP address where all the VLANS are on a different subnet and the IP gateway is part of that subnet.

  • Best network design... Need advice on the best use of NIC

I'm new to the concept of Distributed Switch so I need advice.

Our current environment is the result of a vCenter 4.1 and ESXi 4.1 Enterprise Plus, but we are just using the standard vSwitch (1 for vMotion/Console and 1 for virtual machines).  When the distributed switch came out, we were warned that a vDSwitch could cause us problems if the server vCenter or database is down.  We could not connect directly to the host and make network changes because the vDSwitch is set in the database.  That's why we stayed with the Standard vSwitch only.

Our farm is quite small, only 5 hosts but we run around 100 mV in this regard.

We use currently servers HP DL385 G7, which have 4 cards integrated network, and we have a map of installed NETWORK 4 port card.

I use the NETWORK 4 EtherChannel ports and trunk card to our virtual machines.

I am currently using only 1 network card integrated for vMotion and 1 for the Service Console and they all have two of the other defined as secondary.

This configuration has worked very well for us, but I realize that the latest version of ESXi has some new features that we could use.

    NEW CONFIGURATION

I'll put up a new vCenter 5 and ESXi 5 environment and I am considering using the switch distributed instead of the usual vSwitch we use.  I'm also eager to take advantage of the multiple NIC vMotion.  All our cards are 10/100/1000 MB capable... No. 10 GigE.

I think... use that map 4 NETWORK ports for my EtherChannel/trunk for just as our virtual machine before, but this would be set to vDSwitch1

The mixture of my 4 other integrated ports, it's causing me grief.  Should they be on a standard vSwitch or vDSwitch?  Use 2 ports for vMotion and 2 for the Console?  I really thought to use 3 ports for vMotion and 1 Console port.  I could put the Console port to use one of the vMotion ports such as adapter of standby is... I'm so confused freaking!

Any recommendations on how I should put up?

    Hello

Given that you can't split your vmnic for each vSwitch I would recommend either keep configuration simular with the knoweldge if a whole nic fails, you will take a failure or as autumn has already been mentioned on 'Origin Port ID'. Lets do this out and give a little better example

    Current configuration

    vSwitch0

VMNIC0 - NETWORK interface integrated - Service Console

VMNIC1-Onboard NIC - VMotion (different IP or VLAN?)

VMNIC2-Onboard NIC - VMotion (different IP or VLAN?)

VMNIC3 - NETWORK interface integrated - VMotion (eve of Console of Service) (different IP or VLAN?)

    vSwitch1

    VMNIC4 - extension PCI NIC - Etherchannel trunk - PortGroup - VMNET

    Extension VMNIC5 - PCI NIC Etherchannel trunk-PortGroup - VMNET

    Extension VMNIC6 - PCI NIC Etherchannel trunk-PortGroup - VMNET

    Extension VMNIC7 - PCI NIC Etherchannel trunk-PortGroup - VMNET

Now, to captured to eliminate any single point of failure that you could do is break your Etherchannel trunk and back this vSwitch from Port ID and Setup VMNIC2, VMNIC3, VMNIC4, VMNIC5 as vSwitch1 for your VMNET. Then the cable to multiple switches eliminate any single point of faiulre. If your standard configuration would look like this

    vSwitch0

    VMNIC0 - on - Board Service Console

    VMNIC1 - Board - Vmotion

    VMNIC6 - extension PCI NIC - Vmotion

VMNIC7 - extension PCI NIC - Vmotion (standby Service Console)

    vSwitch1

    VMNIC2 - VMNET

    VMNIC3 - VMNET

    VMNIC4 - VMNET

    VMNIC5 - VMNET

So to finish any request for psyhical nics on this particular configuration the Port ID of origin essentially around robins. If during your first VM is online it will be use VMNIC2 and nic forever, until a failure, in which case he will grab the next nic online. When your second VM is online it will use VMNIC3 forever, until a failure and so on. This still will give you around the same way through to as far as networking is concerned. However if you are attached to the trunk, etherchannel 4 GB and can obsorb a failure in case of failure, the network card 4 ports can stay.

    Distributed switching Setup

Allows you to see how you can switch to distributed switching

Let's start first of all, you can have EVERYTHING in switches distributed even the service console port if you wish. The resason why some people do not like to do this with the service console port is because IF your database is broken you cannot make any changes to the distributed switch. However it will not prevent a feature to your distributed it switches simply means, you can change them. Also if just getting worse and your DB has been declining for some time and you REALLY need to make a change to the service console port you can go into the console and change back to a standard vSwitch if need be. This allows the said look at some standard configs, you can work

    vSwitch0 (Standard)

VMNIC0 - Service Console Port (Port Original ID or standby)

VMNIC4 - Service Console Port (Port Original ID or standby)

    vSwitch1 (Standard)

    VMNIC1 - Vmotion

    VMNIC5 - Vmotion

    Distributed switch

    VMNIC2 - VMNET

    VMNIC3 - VMNET

    VMNIC6 - VMNET

    VMNIC7 - VMNET

Now this config using originating port ID and breaks your etherchannel if you want to keep your configuration with the etherchannel it can look like this

    vSwitch0

VMNIC0 - NETWORK interface integrated - Service Console

VMNIC1-Onboard NIC - VMotion (different IP or VLAN?)

VMNIC2-Onboard NIC - VMotion (different IP or VLAN?)

VMNIC3 - NETWORK interface integrated - VMotion (eve of Console of Service) (different IP or VLAN?)

    Distributed switch

    VMNIC4 - VMNET

    VMNIC5 - VMNET

    VMNIC6 - VMNET

    VMNIC7 - VMNET

Other changes to the configuration may also put the vmotion in distributed witch the VMNET but you would to VLAN, or you could create a second Distributed switch and put it as long as there are 2 network cards. It can go either way. The main advantage of a distributed switch is that it brings all of your settings with you in any host. So trade ect all your VIRTUAL networks is really easy to reproduce if a new host is brought online, all you have to do is to add the new host network cards in the distributed switch and your config is done. With that in mind lets look at the service console. This console is always configured on EACH Setup program that out you of the box if not that you really need to have these parameters transported on several hosts that is another reason why most people just don't. VMotion is up to you, I have seen and configured two ways, it all depends on how simple you want to keep it or think of switching / vlaning / port of groups.

If you have any questions please let me know, I hope this has helped

  • Network management using a trunk for the connectivity port

    Hi all

I'm currently developing a couple of hosts with a unique vswitch esx. Ideally, I would like to allocate 4 physical NICS on the host to connect to my physical network via 802. 1 q trunks. These network interface cards will then be used by some groups of ports for example vlan 10,20 and 30. I also want the Group of ports management network the vswitch using one of/all of these ports of junction for its uplink to the physical network. However, I seem to lose connectivity to the host whenever I put the port network management group vmnic to one vmnic that is attached to an uplink of trunk. If I allocate an uplink access and secure it to the management network port group I do not seem to have everything get to the problem of the host.

I have to do something wrong as having to use a physical network adapter, mapped to a vlan access, just for hospitality management seems a bit exaggerated.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    See you soon,.

    CiscoKid

    Hello Ciscokid,

is not a problem to achieve what you want. What VLAN id you use for the management network? You specify this number VLAN on the portgroup of management?

Do you have any "vlan native" on the physical switch port?

  • Unable to connect my P1102w printer to my network wireless (using Mac OS 10.6)

I have a home network wireless vanilla (D-Link to a cable modem) and a MacMini running OS 10.6.8. My Mac laptop and 4th. GEN iPad work seamlessly. But my attempt to long hours to connect my new HP P1102w network was totally frustrating, despite a careful study of the documentation pdf, device/self test the printer configuration sheet, sailing on this forum, I'm looking at a slew of videos YouTube/HP and following all sorts of directions.

The only consolation is the printer works fine on USB connection.

Here are a few questions I met and that stopped me in my tracks:

Carefully following both instructions pdf and video operating instructions online to HP, I get by step 6 w / no problemn. but then I go to step 7, which says:

"Under the Mode of Communication , Infrastructure -click, select your network SSID from the list of names of the network (SSID)" and then click on the button. ""

Problem is that there is nothing in this window. What I see is a State of the Wireless: enable or disabled (according to choice). And even if I try to select enabled, happening right now for people with reduced mobility. Aside: I note that the printed instructions show a copyright date of 2011. It's ancient history in the world of the CPU.

Other issues: the single IP address I can find for the printer is the IPv4 address, but it is only for direct printing Configuration. What is the IP I'm looking for?

Address of the printer hardward, I suppose, is your MAC? Boy, I sure could use better use of language here.

So, needless to say, I'm stuck. It seems that it takes THAT hard, but so far nothing that I could find on the HP support or forums seems to help. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

PS. I wouldn't go back this printer because I am a lover of HP printer, two decade, but alas, I might have if I can't find a solution.
