Aero in Windows has stopped working

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. Aero in Windows has stopped working. When this happened once before going to the control panel > change the color scheme and selected Windows Aero, but now this option is not listed. Checked the help and as advised checked my screen resolution and I saw 32-bit color, the verified value Advanced Configuration monitor and I saw this refresh rate is 60 Hz. Then forums got advice to run sfc/scannow and it came back and told me to Resource Protection Windows did not find any breach of integrity. Finally, taking advice to check that the graphics card by going to Device Manager but no device had anything by them which suggests that they do not work.

  • Aero in Windows has stopped working, the difficulty it says that my graphics card is not supported!

About 1 week ago my aero wasn't on when I started my pc. When I tried to turn on I couldn't, could not choose aero theme and the built-in Troubleshooter could not find fault. So I tried the fixit windows application and it says that my graphics card does not support aero. I find it very strange because it worked the day before and then suddenly stopped. Tried reinstalling the drivers but it still does not work. I have a card ATI Radeon HD 5570. Help, please! :)

If you have updated your Windows then uninstall the update of platform for Windows 7 (KB2670838) and your problem should be solved.

Before I updated my Windows this month I just checked if Microsoft still offer this update. This is in the optional list. I installed so I thought to manually upgrade to IE10 because he wasn't in the IE9 update list. So I did manually and after that check updates again and to my surprise this update has disappeared completely. I have an old PC as well, and after installing all the updates I still have no problems so far. I recommend that you upgrade to IE10 after uninstalling this update (if you updated with that and faced the problem) to get rid of the update forever. But do it at your own risk, because I never updated my machine with this defective update and see if that caused any problems with my machine.
