Time Capsule.   After six years of good operation, my Time Capsule shows a yellow light flashing instead of green light solid.  It seems to work fine, and I tried l ' switch off and restart, nothing helps.  An update is necessary?

The Capsule of time... and other Apple routers... flashing orange when they have a message for you. To see what it is...

Open AirPort Utility on your Mac... (Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility)

Click on the image of the Time Capsuleand a small window will appear

If you see an Update button, then new firmware is available for the Capsule of time if you want to install this package. To do this, click on the Update button

Otherwise, find the Status parameter and then click on the little orange dot it for more information on why the status light flashes, with a suggestion to fix whatever may be the cause

I have an IMac with time machine and time capsule. If I buy a large external hard drive can back up all my Lightroom Info but also everything else to go to time machine, & that it saves on hard drive new, after he made a backup to time capsule?  This way, I would have two backups.

    Hi marinersr,

I'm not sure the backup machine capsule/time, but according to me, that it backs up all data on your hard drive.

Yes, you can back up the Lightroom catalog on the hard disk external.

You can set the time of the backup under the catalog settings > backup > he would invite to the backup, when you exit Lightroom > click on select next to the location and specify the location as your new hard drive.

If you want images of both original backup, you can configure to create a second copy of the images on your external drive during import.

  • WiFi to my Time Capsule still degrades 2.4 GHz instead of 5 GHz

My capsule of time always degrades to the band of 2.4 GHz instead to be linked to the 5 GHz band when I'm browsing the internet, doing someone knows if it's an antenna, problem of router or a drop of water lost connection Bean, thanks.

Your Time Capsule is not downgraded to 2.4 GHz at all, it's always the production both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network at any time. That's why's called it a double router broadband simultaneously .  Wireless devices will be automatically connect at 5 GHz or 2.4 Gz based on their own abilities and their distance from the time Capsule.

5 GHz signals are 'faster' signals, but they are also 'weaker' signals, so you no longer have a lot of success with 5 GHz when wireless devices are in the same room or have line-of-sight to the time Capsule. Once a device moves a piece or more away from the time Capsule, the device 'sees' the stronger 2.4 GHz signal here and commute to 2.4 Ghz for the connection stronger.

Unfortunately, once a device powered 2.4 GHz, usually not going to happen 5 GHz unless you temporarily disable WiFi on the device and then turn it on again. If the device "sees" a 5 GHz signal strong enough, then it will connect to this network.

If you want devices to connect at 5 GHz, using an option to assign a different name for the 5 GHz network, you can "point" or "force" devices to connect to this signal.  The downside to this, is that you also need manually "perpendicular to the" 2.4 GHz devices if they are located a few rooms away... Time Capsule because they may not be able to pick up even the 5 GHz signal to this place. "  Even if they can, the 2.4 GHz signal will be much stronger and probably faster than the 5 GHz network.

After the back if you need some tips on how to assign a different name for the 5 GHz network.

Why not Time Capsule shows under "other devices" in the Finder on my MAC?

"Devices" are connected directly to a Mac and would include things like USB hard drive, FireWire drive and Thunderbolt drive, etc.

The Capsule is a "network" connected to a network drive... If the operating system on your Mac behave, Time Capsule will appear in the Shared section.

If you have added a NAS (Network Attached Storage) disk, this product would also appear in the Shared section.

A wireless printer can also appear under shared.

In Time Machine preferences, I have two 2 options for a backup drive, both called 'Data' but showing different icons:

I am pretty confused at this point and don't know what to do.  I searched a lot of things, but can not find someone with this issue says .

    Any help would be appreciated!

You have massively changed the network.

So it is little surprise that TM has lost connection. TB is no longer in the same place.

-Time Machine wants to do a backup complete of any HD on MBP; shows some previous backups, but shows used the Time Capsule disk storage:

That's okay... because of the new configuration TM cannot detect the old backup, until she starts again. Apple never indicate anywhere... but TM can never find older backups on a network when they moved the place. It is a fact of how works the beastie TM.

What you need to do, is to be very brave. Feeling brave?

Select the data... the dancing men would probably be best. (Which means a network of road... wireless icon means a disk on the wireless... and will most likely also work... After all, it's the same thing).

And TM will say that it will start a new backup in 120 sec (I never understood the timed fuse 2 min. time to clear the building?)

When TM begins... She will discover that the old backup is always there... Check for fingerprints... I own it... Check it against your current hard drive... If all extracted TM will then make an incremental backup... You are reconnected to your backups... woo hoo!

In case of failure... you will have a new backup and an old... It's also very well... wait a few weeks or a month or two... and then you can remove the old backup of the TC. Or store it on a USB key if the atmosphere is for old things.

Apple documentation for most things is now seriously lacking. All the technical aspects are hidden from the great unwashed.

  • HP Photosmart PSC 2410xi: installing printing HP PSC 2410xi Photosmart IP router works, but not the function of scan

I just install my HP PSC 2410xi Photosmart all-in-one for IP printing via my new usaing Asus RT - 16 Wireless Router the router USB 2 connections, and it prints perfectly for my custom pc company installation Windows 7 64 ultimate.

But I can't get either Windows "Fax and Scan", "Digitization management", or my image of 3rd party software to recognize the flat bed scanner with this installation, because there seems to be no separate "Device" option that can be selected for the parameter of the intellectual property of scanning, only for the "HP psc 2400 series", than Windows easily reconizes for direct installation of USB device , "offline".

Also, if I try to select the option of "HP psc 2400 series" IP for scanning with my 3rd party software, and any choice of Twain and WIA driver is grayed out, so it can not create the profile in order to USE the scan function. And try to create a port separate Windows for the scanner function only, using the same IP address, only you will get an IP conflict problem, not creating a separate port works, anyway.

Is there a way to get the dumpster to function to work through my router IP to analysis, or will I have to change my USB cable from the router to my pc using the offline option USB hub, whenever I need to analyze something?

I must point out, that I still have to use the popular tomato, DD - Wrt, or Firmware of Merlin for extras, as a newbie, I just use the official Asus Firmware (last updated), for now.  Thank you.

    Hey @technosey,

    Welcome to the HP forums!

I see that you are having problems with your PSC 2410xi scanning on your Windows PC. I can help with that.

First of all, I see that you have the printer plugged into a USB port on your router. Which can cause a lot of problems and it would be better to plug directly into your PC. Once done you will add a printer via a local connection, rather than via a network connection.

Then, using this printer on Windows 7 Enterprise is going to be difficult because there is no driver available for this operating system. I found a document but that can help you troubleshoot. Install your printer using the Windows built-in driver

If this information helped you to scan then please let others know by clicking on accept as a Solution.

I hope this helps and I hope you have a great rest of your day!

  • I have my time capsule for base station; How do I set up just for Time Machine?

For several years, I have used Time Capsule as a wireless base station more backup Time Machine. I back up a Macbook Air (single user) and iMac with 2 users (two computers running on OS X 11.5). With Comcast Xfinity I need is more like a base station. In fact, I reset my router Xfinity name and password to replicate what was the name and the password to my Time Capsule network. But, now that it's done I can't understand of set up time capsule without set it up as a base station. The installation guide seems to suggest that I could do so by plugging the ethernet cable from the modem to an ethernet port which is not the WAN port. But this configuration did not work. The installation wizard only took me the steps to set up a wireless network. How can I simply we it with Time Machine as an external hard drive?

The installation wizard only took me the steps to set up a wireless network. How can I simply we it with Time Machine as an external hard drive?

Simply turn off the time Capsule wireless.

To do... Open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule, then click on modify in the window that appears

Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the next window

Change the setting for the Mode of network on 'Off '.

Click Update to save the changes

But... and this is a big BUT... This work of pourrait ... and maybe not. Even if the backup on the Comcast network seems to be working, there will be no help from Apple in case of questions or problems of backup.

The reason is that, so that your Time Machine backups be supported officially by Apple, users must save on the Time Capsule wireless, or connect their Mac (s) directly to one of the three ports LAN <>- on the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet cable connection.

If you decide to try the method of failure to load, please let us know how things work after a few days.

  • Load new Time Capsule with backup t. m.?

I have an end 2013 27 "iMac running OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.6, with a new 3 TB Time Capsule. In the process of upgrading my original model A1470, 2 TB Time Machine awkwardly, I managed to detach the tablecloth of the end circuit rather than simply ripped hard drive making rubber on the 2 TB hard drive itself. This time Capsule is actually useless now. I installed the original drive work with my TM backups in a USB 3 enclosure with the intention of transferring its contents to my new Time Capsule. When the original Monte drive, it shows as 3 (?) partitions, labeled: APconfig; APswap; and the data. 'Data' has 84,46 GB of data in files "Backups.backupdb" and "ShareRoot. The other partitions are essentially empty-APconfig with a single file "AFP.reconect_keys" to 24 bytes and a total content of 15.6 MB and APswap without files containing 15.3 mb.

How to use this original TC hard disk to load my backups Time Machine on my NEW 3 to Time Capsule? I only discovered how to load a T.C. from file to archive hard disk, but not the original files of TC.

    Any ideas will be appreciated.

What you are, indeed, now doing is to copy/move an existing Time Machine backup 'network', a local disk to another drive (aka, your new Time Capsule) network.

Basically, Time Machine uses a different backup format with readers local vs. network drives. You now have a backup of "network format" on a local disk. Time Machine will not be able to use this backup 'local', as it is, because it is not in a format that is "local." Sorry if that sounds confusing. It was confusing for me just to write it.

A method that would work would be to clone the backup, but it only works when the two backups will be 'local format' ones.

Worst case, I recommend that you come to start a new backup and use the one as archive.

  • Restore the missing applications after Time Capsule

I just had to restore my 2010 Mac Book Pro using Time Machine and a recent full backup on my Time Capsule.

There are a lot of important apps now gone, including the App Store, Safari, disk utility and many others.

I have considered installing Sierra to correct this, but cannot access the app store via Chrome or Firefox

I have all my documents, etc., on the Time Capsule so able to perform a clean installation of Sierra, if I was able to download

I run the front last Sierra OS, well that may not even check that, as clicking on 'about my Mac', produces nothing at all...

    Thank you

Yes, clean, install the OS then migrate your files using the migration wizard.

It's actually the best way to install an operating system.

And next time you want to make a backup that works... use a Chronosync, Carbon Copy Cloner or superduper etc.. Time Machine is not reliable.

  • time capsule A1254: HD level or replace?

Two or three years, I have replaced original 500 GB HD time capsule (A1254 time - I think that it is generation 1 - wireless "N" but not dual band... it has been replaced by apple earlier after the death of one (it was perhaps a reminder/known problem?)) with a 2 TB WB Green. It's always great to work but HD is approaching full (only 150GB on the left). Then...

1 swap 2 TB existing to a new 4 or 5 TB WD Green (or other HD?) and resume backups using my time A1254 recommended capsule existing; or

    2. the upgrade to the current generation 2/3 to Time Capsule (.. .and replace it with the largest 4-5 to HD); or

    3. fix a 4 / 5TB external hard drive on the Time Capsule or Airport Extreme (it's a newer version 'Tower' model w dual band running in bridge to expand the existing network similarly) and backups on this usb attached HD

The capsule is used for backup of my main machine. We also have an iMac that we use occasionally I want to save it on the same drive (another partition?) if possible...

Thank you for helping us sort the advantages/disadvantages of these options (and any other I can remember)!

The Gen1 with decent food worked great although rather slow. Gen3 or Gen4 models are about 50% more fast transfer speed of disc and infinitely better wireless. The Gen5 has the same speed of the Gen 4 disc and didn't really win anything... the wireless win AC wireless but you need new customers to take advantage of this... and that means farm... 5 GHz AC high speed is the same room or improved speed of the next room.

The Gen5 is trickier... removal and installation of the hard disk are a project to undertake with a certain degree of skill. People tear the ribbon cable that is not replaceable. It is also breaking warranty on an area that has not proven be more reliable, and this is why you may well exercise the warranty.

In more than two years old now, it went well replacement... so buying the current model, I don't think that is a good buy...

    3. fix a 4 / 5TB external hard drive on the Time Capsule or Airport Extreme (it's a newer version 'Tower' model w dual band running in bridge to expand the existing network similarly) and backups on this usb attached HD

The capsule is used for backup of my main machine. We also have an iMac that we use occasionally I want to save it on the same drive (another partition?) if possible...

I think buying an Airport Extreme and use it only with a USB drive isn't a bad idea. This means that if the device falls down backups are safe. You don't have to open the unit to remove the disc. More wireless key USB is not a lot of things slow... by ethernet, I have to say that it will be much slower backups. Do not buy the RIGHT USB drive... some are not reliable... they work for a day and then begin to have some spin up questions.

I think myself... I would start up between buying a TC Gen3 (or Gen 4 who has better wireless but somewhat less reliable). And put your big disk in it. You can also plug a USB in there... Just turn your current 2 TB... archive and then delete and continue to use it.

Or as above... buy EI (AC model that is Gen6) with USB drive.

OR if you need spending money on something better... This is a more expensive way, but buy a QNAP or Synology NAS... Load it with a couple of WD drives red. They are not wireless... If you need a wireless router to plug in... Although I'm guessing that you use ethernet as the wireless Gen1 is hardly huge. As I said that is not a cheap solution... but it's a solid hardware solution and you can certainly improve your backup transfers full gigabit network speed. (best case scenario of course)

The best way to do this with an iMac in the network is to buy a big USB drive... Plug it into the iMac... (USB3 is ideal... If the Mac is older that 2012 there only the USB2 ports but you have love at first sight for 2011 and FW800 which are always available and faster than USB2).

Simply divide this player and make it available to the network... you can make backups TM on networks... and USB2 connected directly on a Mac is still faster than the backup network for a TC. At least a computer then backup to local drive... much more reliable in this way.

Time capsule shows a steady green light. Wifi is good job and my two other airports Express are being lit in the utility.
