After that the virus, any link on my desktop now asks me to choose a program to open it.

Title: Computer Reset of origin?

I just bought my computer a few weeks ago. I ended up buying a virus protection. which was a virus itself. I spoke to a support Member and he used the microsoft safety scanner. now, when I click on a link on my desktop, it pulls up a window saying I need to choose a program to open it. Anyway is to restart my computer to its original settings, it was when I bought it?

Hello

In the two next messages are methods to further check for malware that should be (and I mean
which) and methods to protect the system.

Check with your system manufacturer support, their drivers and documentation online and ask for their
Forums (if any). The system can be restored to the rear out of the box state that eliminates course
all programs and data so data first. Each manufacturer has its own methods, although it is
usually not a complx process.

Try this first:

To run a program use start - search and type the name of the program such as iexplore.exe
to run Internet Explorer - Explore.exe runs Windows Explorer - you may need to use the path to
those - If yes type the full path and name in the search box.

InterNet Explorer
C:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe

Windows Explorer
C:\Windows\explorer.exe

You can use Windows Explorer to access any program and double-click it to run until you get

To restore the ability to run any .exe programs.

1 make a Restore Point so that you can come back if necessary back although probably not required.

So I did what they asked, but now, whenever I start my pc, when I would have my office, I get a white screen and when I pres ctrl + alt + delete I can get in the menu but the management tasks does not start. Hey AlexDedeur5,

You may be able to create a Live CD. This is a CD with an alternative operating system that runs completely from a CD rather than your hard drive.

Using a Live CD, you can access your hard disk just like you acceding to a flash drive. You can copy and paste your files from the hard drive of your laptop computer to a flash drive or external hard drive. You will need to scan that disc flash drive/external hard with a reliable anti-virus program before opening or transfer these files to avoid infecting a second computer.

To get a very good Live CD is Knoppix. I used it before a couple times to get data from infected computers and hard drives, partially damaged by a fall. Here are some links that provide you with more information about Knoppix.

How do to retrieve the files from the laptop with Windows crashed using the Knoppix CD

Once your data is backed up and scanned with an antivirus, you will need to re - install Windows on the hard drive of your laptop. You can have a recovery partition which you can access by pressing F11 as the computer powers on. If you do not have the HP Recovery Manager, choose System Recovery to factory settings.

If you are unable to the HP Recovery Manager, or it has been lost due to virus, you will need to re - install Windows with a set of recovery disks. If you do not already have your own records, you can order them through HP. If you could provide me with your exact product number (and your country if outside the United States), I could link you to your order for your particular laptop. Here are the steps to finding your product number.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if one of these suggestions helped (this might help others with the same question). I'll keep an eye out for your answer!

  • After that the virus can not connect to internet

My computer running Windows XP has been infected by a virus 'Alert system' fake who took over the office and hide all my files. I was able to restart in safe mode, run Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials to capture and remove some viruses. I was also able to display most of my files and desktop programs. (I also tried to do a system restore, but this doesn't seem to work). However, I can not connect to the INternet using Internet Explorer. I reset IE, but I can't always connect. It seems that IE starts to open the URL, but is then blocked somehow by the virus, which redirects to the default "diagnose the problem. The cables are connected and the Internet works. To determine if there is a program because of a conflict, we recommend that you perform a "clean boot" of the computer. A clean boot is designed to disable programs and services in the background as much as possible. This helps determine which service or program can be the cause of the problem.  For more information about how to perform a clean boot for troubleshooting, click the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

KB 929135 - how to solve a problem of performaing a clean boot in Windows Vista.

Once you have finished the clean boot, check again and see if you get the error of parental control.

If please post again and let us know if that helped pinpoint the problem or if you still need help.
