After update Ubuntu 12.04, address/search in Firefox 29,0 bar behaves strangely. Clues?

I see that some users complain their upgrade 29,0 Firefox Mozilla having questions about the address/search bar, but in my case the update 29,0 Firefox itself ran smoothly and flawless until the last Ubuntu 12.04 automatic update triggered by the net. The 'cat/proc/version' returns:
"Linux version 3.8.0 - 39-generic (buildd@phianna) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3 - 1ubuntu5)) #57 ~ precise1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 1 20:04:50 UTC 2014."
I'm guessing that the build of 29,0 Firefox itself is not exactly the villain here, hard...
Clues? Advice? Conclusions?

Hello again,

There is a dashboard for this report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1316250. So I hope that there will be progress in the resolution of this bug.

A quick fix that worked for me is:
Firefox in 29: type about: config [Enter] - promise to be careful - in the search type gfx.xrender.enabled bar - make a right click (F12) and toggle to make new fake - exit Firefox - Firefox open.

Voila.

  • Why, after update plug-ins by the system of firefox [specifically adobe acrobat 10.1.4.38] it does not recognize it and says I need to update?

This happened on & off for a while. I tried updating via firefox, uninstall and update in acrobat and firefox. He says updating but the version does not change and cannot find any evidence, he did. Even uninstall always reinstalled 10.1.4.38 - the same version that I've had since started using firefox.
Also, today I updated 'Shockwave Flash' at the same place & update says it still need to be updated (don't remember which version he says), but I had disabled Shockwave for Director "." When I gave the update kept saying to update Flash.

Any chance there is a link between Acrobat & something similar to the 'Director' which will help to update recognize? A program distant cousin?

Hi Uptown22, I guess you tried to restart Windows to see if the Adobe Reader update ends after a restart, or if the update from Adobe works best when the system has just been restarted and that you did not start Firefox or any other program that could use Adobe files. If this isn't the case, you might want to try it.

If you check on Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat in your Adobe product, which version actually installed?

If you have a version higher than 10.1.4:

Search many PDF plugins on your system might try either of the following:

    • full search of drive C for nppdf32.dll (be sure to search in hidden folders) - you need to check the version properties to determine if they meet your true version
    • Secunia PSI (free for use on non-professional computers): http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ - will find obsolete plugins and in its advanced mode show you the location on disk

Clean install, via the Apple update, on 10 to win and host reboot, iTunes does not start. Don't hit anything, have not changed anything. Win 10 Pro updated to the last update. 16 GB OF RAM. • URL Bar Search no longer works after update and no research options available!

URL Bar Search no longer works after update and no research options available!

"URL Bar Search" which is an extension? Or are you referring to the address bar, sometimes called the address bar?

Let's try a few basic trounleshooting.

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • Click on the menu button , click Help , and then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

  • My search bar is messed up after update. I want the old drop-down list back. I can't get anything now. Firefox is absolutely useless for me now.

Update of the Firefox software appeared. I allowed him to be installed. He wrecked the bar/search box. I use to be able to click on the magnifying glass icon and ALL options would seem the search engine and I could easily chose a. It has been easy. Now, nothing. I can't find anything through Firefox. Firefox is useless to me now, which means I have no computer. I have to go out and spend another $ 1,000 to get a new computer? This is not good. You shouldn't do that to a person. Not everyone is technically advanced that some of you are. Now, I have no means to look for anything with Firefox. I really liked Firefox. Now your a software update messed me all this. So what should I do? IE is worthless. Not sure, not sure, can not trust him. Never works right. May not print correctly. Update Firefox shouldn't have messed up my computer. I need to search and now I can't. I mean, it's really not good. So, just for you called brilliant Stanford types, when I click on the magnifying glass icon or the small, inverted triangle, there is nothing. The search bar is empty. White, white. Is no longer the quick menu drop-down window with all of the available selections of search engine. I have it? That's why I told myself. Have a real nice day!

See this article to find out how the new search bar works - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-bar-add-change-manage-search-engines-firefox

If you want that the old regime back for that search bar.
Open Subject: config (typed in the address bar) and turn this false preference
    browser.search.showOneOffButtons
    Then restart Firefox.

  • After updating Firefox, most of my search engine options have changed, the United States, the United Kingdom and I am unable to get the USA those back. Of course, Google does not change.

After updating Firefox, most of my available search engines top right changed the United States to the UK (except Google I'd rather not use) versions. I'm unable to retrieve Yahoo USA or Amazon or Ebay search engines.

The sounds that you got the version of Firefox GB with the update.

You can download en version and uninstall the current version of en - us and install the US version.

Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.

Do NOT remove the data personal when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because all profile files will be deleted and you will also lose your personal data such as bookmarks and passwords from other versions of Firefox profiles.

Your bookmarks and other profile data stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a relocation, but make sure that you do not select delete data of a personal nature if you uninstall Firefox.

This indicates that the site is by default an obsolete encryption encryption algorithm that is vulnerable to the attack of 'Blocking' which was in the news earlier this year.

You can turn off these old present in Firefox to try to force the site to his game. Here's how:

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the search above the list box, type or paste dhe and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    (3) double-click the preference security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha to true to false (disable Firefox to use this encryption)

    (4) double click on the security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha preference from true to false (disable Firefox to use this encryption)

Then try your payment site. Any improvement?

  • Firefox screen blew up after update

After updating, the design, layout and the text of firefox "blew up." It is too big.

The only advice that I have always after the search has been trying to view > Zoom etc.,.

Only, this changed the screen I was and is returned after a change to a new page, open a new tab or restart firefox.

I need a permanent solution where the firefox screen is where it was before.

Amendments of the code regarding the HiDPI support high-resolution displays have landed at Firefox 22 and later (bug #844604).

You can change the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and increase or decrease the value of 0.1 or 0.05 as follows to adjust the size of fonts and other elements in Firefox.

    • The layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref is a string parsed in float value and allows you to adjust the dimensions of all elements (user interface and web pages) specifically (resolution 0.1 or 0.05).
    • Change the default value of-1 to 1 to make it work as in previous versions of Firefox (100%)

Start with a value of 1 and adjust this value with 0.1 or 0.05 for finer settings.

    • Use values between 1.0 and around 0.5 to reduce the size of the items (do NOT go all the way to 0.05!)
    • Use a value greater than 1.0 to grow and enlarge the elements (percentage divided by DPI, % / DPI).

    EDIT by Chris_ilias: to summarize:

    1. In the address barof Firefox, type Subject: config , then press the Enter key.
If the "this might void your warranty!" warning appears, click on I'll be careful, I promise! to continue.
    2. Search for the preference layout.css.devPixelsPerPx
    3. Double-click the entry and change its value of-1.0 and 1.0
(you can change this upward or downwards if necessary, for example, 1.1 to 0.9).

Note that the changes take effect immediately. To its default value, right-click the preference and select Reset.

If the web pages must be adjusted after changing this pref so you can watch the extension Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint.

This extension allows to adjust the font size for the user interface:

  • After updating to release 21.0, I'm more able to join a meeting by using Microsoft Lync 2010 online if Firefox is set as my default browser.

After updating to release 21.0, I'm more able to join a meeting by using Microsoft Lync 2010 online if Firefox is set as my default browser. I am invited to "Join the meeting using your web browser" or "download and install Lync participating." None of these options work. Join using web browser results in a command prompt to install missing plugins, but then no appropriate plugins can be found. Try to install Lync Attendee fails because Lync 2010 is already installed.

I also tried to install the beta version of Firefox 22.0, but the problem persists.

Hello ScottRey, please try this: enter about: config in the firefox address bar (confirm the message information where it appears) and search for the preference named plugins.load_appdir_plugins. Double-click it and change its value to true (a restart of the browser may be needed later for the change to take effect). some information on the issue are explained in http://www.ghacks.net/2013/05/15/why-you-may-have-lost-access-to-plugins-or-extensions-in-firefox-21/
