  I tried to reinstall Win Vista Home Premium to my Satellite U400-183. I used a DVD OS Win that came with my other laptop to other manufacturing and the key that came with my Toshiba laptop.   I have a HP Pavilion Dv6500 and recently purchased a copy of Win 7 Home Premium edition.

  I've been toying with the idea of downgrading to XP like many others for quite awhile but decided to stick it out. the system had to be rebuilt, but I didn't I would have too many problems, system shaped like Win 7 uses the Vista kernel.

  However, to my great surprise Win 7 does not notice the SATA HARD drive and I can't find the AHCI drivers anywhere on the site for Win 7 - finished those trials still HP?   We tested the theory of a replacement HARD drive tonight and to my surprise (don't say I doubted you for a second there) but the system has formatted the new HARD drive and we have installed VISTA and are currently in train now to see how he handles the new installation of Windows 7.
