  It is surprising how a simple search does not turn the answer to such a question, which one would think would be quite a common problem.  Indeed, several people asked similar questions, but often with no response.  However, I managed to find the solution on manual site Apple of all places.  And in the interest of the public service will post it here.  The problem is even if I had taken my photo library with the preferences window, I had not designated 'Library system' as in below.

  You will need to install iTunes. The iTunes Setup program adds drivers and services for the iPhone. That's what I do:

  1. Once iTunes is installed, it allows to import all the music in Windows Media Player.
  2. If you want to automatically download album art, you will need to register for an iTunes Store account. Otherwise, just copy the album art from Windows Media Player:
  a. at a command prompt, cd in each music folder.
  b. attrib s h AlbumArt * Large.jpg
  c. xcopy AlbumArt * %tmp% Large.jpg
  d. attrib + s + h AlbumArt * Large.jpg
  e e.. now, for each album in iTunes, right click and choose 'Get Info'. Drag & drop the corresponding JPG of %tmp% in the field "Cover Art" and click OK.
  3. connect your iPhone. Select "Manually manage music" on the screen of the iPhone.
  4. click on the icon on the left side of iTunes music. Make sure that all the music that you want to synchronize has an audit. (This is the default).

  I have an old shuffle, 1 MB, maybe a 2nd gen, gold (A1204 EMC). iTunes (iOS 10.11.4 12.4.1) has problems with the shuffle.   Since your post I understand these were compilation CD or CD of digitized LPs all the facts and burned by you.  iTunes will remember the content of the CD on the computer that made the combustion. This information is not actually on the CD (unless you said iTunes to save it as CD-text format which iTunes itself cannot read directly).  This registers in a special folder on the computer that has apparently lost when wipe you your drive.  For commercial CD iTunes uses the Gracenote database to assign information of CD based on the characteristic footprint track of the CD, but your being elements, will not be in the Gracenote database (not even your LPs which must be the time right as the CD version).

  I was connected my 8330 for a desktop XP for a long time.  The sw of the device is v4.5.0.175.  I recently got a new Lenovo T410 laptop, running Windows 7.  I downloaded the software (version 5.0.1) DM and checked my camera SW is updated, but the laptop is still not recognize that the device is connected (via USB).  I tried all ports USB on the laptop and also followed all the steps detailed in KB13146, with no luck.  I find nothing in any of the forums that refer to Windows 7.  Can anyone help solve this problem?

  In addition, make sure you use only the root USB ports... without hubs (sometimes the front-end ports are hubs... use a rear USB port). And don't forget to try to disable the USB power management in the configuration of your system (Device Manager).

  My apologies in advance if this is redundant - there is no way to be sure that if you have already seen and tried these. I can attest that DTM does not indeed a BB under Win7... mine is exactly so.
