Airport Express as a bridge for cable internet and wifi

Hello

My first post and I hope you can help, because I was not able to get a clear answer to my question, but it's perhaps easier to write

I have an airport extreme for wifi, it's in a piece of my house. Airport extreme, I have an ethernet cable to my living room on the other side of my house. The cable is for my TV. The walls are solid, and I have only weak wifi in my living room. Therefore, I would like to connect an airport express (WAN port) to the cable in the living room, offering a better wifi, and I want to enjoy the internet connection cable between the LAN port in my TV

the new airport express 802.11n, do the trick?

Thank you

Kris

Yes. You would like to configure the Express to be in a roaming network configuration with your extreme. This would make the Express Ethernet active ports to support your TV.

You can simply do using AirPort Utility on your iMac or iPhone, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the AirPort Express Terminal and then, select change.
    • For a Mac:
      • On the network tab, change the router Mode to: Off (bridge Mode)
      • Select to update and allow the base station restart.
    • For an iOS device:
      • Select Advanced > DHCP and NAT
      • Change the router Mode to: Off (bridge Mode)
      • Select done and allow the base station restart.

  • How to connect the Airport express as an Extender for airport extreme to El Capitan

I have a model extreme A1521 airport and a model express airport A1392 and upgraded my OS to El Capitan. I want to use the express as an Extender for the extreme because my old House is long and has thick walls. My problem is that Airport utility will not 'see' the express, regardless of its proximity to the main router (extreme). I tried to move and reset.

Of course, as soon as I get the utility to see, I need instructions on how to configure the express as a booster for my extreme.

    Any ideas?

Unplug the Express and put it in the same room as the AirPort Extreme.

Put power on the Express for a few minutes, then hold down the reset button on the back of the Express for 7 to 8 seconds and release.

Allow a minute for the Express to restart

Click the WiFI icon at the top of the screen of the Mac

Look for an announcement of the new AirPort base station

Click directly on the AirPort Express Terminal

When you click on AirPort Express, the "Wizard" will open and take a few seconds to analyze things, and then see a screen that looks like the figure below, except that you can see your cameras.

Type a short and simple name that you want to call the Express

    Click next

The installation wizard will take care of everything for you

When you see the message Setup is complete, unplug the Express and move to halfway between the AirPort Extreme and the area of the House that needs more coverage of wireless signal

Turn on the Express and you're all set

Important note... the Express to expand the quality of the signal it receives. About half of the potential speed on the entire nextwork is lost when you extend using a wireless connection between the airports.

It would be much better if you could connect the Express to the extreme by using wired Ethernet wired, permanent, since there is no loss of signal via the Ethernet cable and there is always a lot of loss of signal through the air, the (thick walls especially) walls, ceilings, etc.

  • Configuration Linksys WAG120N for cable internet

Hi I am not able to configure the wireless router linksys for my Internet Bill fiber. Please help me.

The ISP gives necessary PPoE and dynamic IP connection. I have the user name and password to connect to the ISP and internet active.

But I am not able to configure the router to connect to the internet. Please help me

Here's what you can try, I know I did it before with a Modem Router but not this particular model.

Make sure you do not connect your computer to your router via an ethernet cable, turn off PPPoE and Wi - Fi features on your computer so that it uses only the Ethernet connection.

    Then access the WAG120N page.

I have a question though, when you connect the cable from your modem to the router? Is the DSL port? Or on the ethernet port? If your modem cable is an RJ45 connect it to port 1 on the WAG120N, then on the page of the router you must activate something.

Click Ethernet under Setup, and then select use as a WAN Port, select the connection type in the menu drop-down (select PPPoE). Enter the username and password provided by your ISP, then save the settings.

  • Connect Eternet Switch (for cable connections) AND WRT54G2 to WET610N

    Hello

In my office, I have a cable modem that is connected to my main router E4200. All my gear (except my Ooma) is served by the E4200. The E4200 broadcasts a wireless network.

In my basement, I have a Wii / entertainment center. The E4200 to the floor signal is not strong enough to stream videos.

I bought the WET610N and have successfully set up to interact with the network of wirelss E4200. I can wire my laptop for the WET610N and check that the internet works fine.

However, the Wii needs to connect wireless. I have other equipment in the basement who benefit of an internet connection. So I want to A) connect the Workgroup Switch 8 ports 10/100 ESXS88W I the WET610N * AND * also broadcast a wireless signal in my basement (assuming that the wireless network I see in the basement is the same as that of the floor which has not benefited from the 'old' WET610N).

How can I configure my WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless signal in the basement so it relies on the E4200 signal served by the WET610N, while having the work group switch offer connections wired to my other equipment (such as Dish Network receiver)? It doesn't seem to work by simply plugging the WRT54G2 in workgroup switch.

    Thank you!

If I'm not mistaken, your configuration looks like this:

    E4200 (()) WET610N - EZXS88W

    * Wi - Fi brackets and cable connection indicatd by dashes

If you want to connect a WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless network in your basement, you need to connect to this router (using the port 1,2,3 or 4) to your switch. you need to change the IP address of the WRT54G2 192.168.1.2 so that it is not in conflict with the E4200; Disable the DHCP server (since the E4200 is already the DHCP server).

    that should do it.

  • I have century link for my internet and they put sort of a Qwest tab that opens every time I open firefox. How can I get rid of him?

I downloaded a link that Qwest offered to do my upgrade to 10 GB soft windows. After that download is when the additional tab Qwest appeared. It is not listed as my home page and I deleted the download but I still get the tab everytime I open Firefox and I want to get rid of it.

If the page does not appear when you call a new window (Ctrl + n) or click on the Home button, it could be incorporated into the shortcut you use to start Firefox. You can check a shortcut from the desktop/taskbar changed as follows:

    • Shortcut on the desktop: right-click on the icon, choose Properties
    • Icon taskbar pinned: clic click right on the icon, right click in Mozilla Firefox, click on properties

Windows normally selects the shortcut tab. If this is not the case, go ahead and click on the shortcut tab.

The target line do not need anything after this part:

    • Windows 64-bit, standard 32-bit Firefox: "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.
    • Windows 64-bit, 64-bit Firefox test: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    • 32-bit Windows: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

If all URLS are listed after this, claire them and save your changes. To test, you can:

    • Shortcut on the desktop: double-click the icon to launch a new window
    • Icon taskbar pinned: right-click on the icon, click Mozilla Firefox to open a new window

If you get only your homepage, it worked.

  • Using the Airport Express Terminal as a bridge

I would like to get video Amazon on my older Blu - ray player.  I was wondering if I could use my old AirportExpress (1st generation) as a bridge.  Now my new Comcast modem connects to my Time Machine that gives me my wireless connection. I tried to connect to the airport & connecting to my Blu - ray via ethernet cable, but I just get a flashing yellow light and the DVD on the screen tells me just the internet connection failed. Is this possible?

Now my new Comcast modem connects to my Time Machine that gives me my wireless connection.

I think that you wanted to say that you have a Time Capsule that produces the signal of your wireless network, correct? (Time Machine is a software on your Mac used to back up the Mac on another hard drive).

I was wondering if I could use my old AirportExpress (1st generation) as a bridge.

In 'bridge', do you mean you want the AirPort Express to receive a wireless signal of the time and then wireless Capsule to deliver one Ethernet signal to the DVD player?

The answer is 'yes' to the offer that you really have a 1st generation AirPort Express. To check, look for the model number on the side of the Express in the small print. It starts with an "A" followed four digits.  A 1st Gen AirPort Express is A1264 model number.  What is the number that you see?

I tried to connect to the airport & connecting to my Blu - ray via ethernet cable, but I just get a flashing yellow light and the DVD on the screen tells me just the internet connection failed

Assuming you have a 1st Gen Airport Express, the device must be set up and configured to work with time Capsule. The AirPort Express doesn't quite work simply by plugging.

  • Can I use my time capsule for wired Internet?

The fundamental question is, I can connect my time capsule to my wireless internet router and then use the capsule to connect my iMac to the Internet with an Ethernet cable?

The back story: I have an i7 iMac late 2009 that has worked perfectly until that somewhere around OS x Lion. The update came, and suddenly the wifi became shotty; intermittent connectivity that could last from 2 hours to 2 minutes and often, the computer would suddenly turns off. So, I just took an Ethernet cable from my gateway wireless comcast directly to my time capsule and then another was running for the TC to the iMac. It worked perfectly when the router and the iMac were in the same room. Since then, we moved and there is only a single coaxial connection of work in the new House, and this room that can hold your desktop. Now, I searched high and low for a fix for the problem of wifi, without success; reset the PRAM, change the wireless channel reset wireless packet, you name it I tried it (with the exception of a reinstallation of firmware lion before the airport summary-pretend). I really do not have the money to have someone come run an Ethernet cable through my walls now or to understand the situation of coaxial cable (I tried to do it me but there are about 10 outputs and the room that I want to use seems to actually be connected directly on a former satellite Hughes-NET on the side of the House). Now, this wireless to the dream of the Ethernet connection is my only option... Anyway I can make it work?

The fundamental question is, I can connect my time capsule to my wireless internet router and then use the capsule to connect my iMac to the Internet with an Ethernet cable?

The answer is not quite as simple.

Yes... If your 'hand' wireless router is another Apple wireless router.

No.... If your 'hand' wireless router is a part 3.

However, you have two options if you have a 3rd party router that provides to your wireless network:

    (1) add an AirPort Express and it set up to 'join' the network wireless provided by your 3rd party product. Then, the AirPort Express can provide wired Ethernet cable of the Time Capsule and the iMac can connect to the time Capsule using Ethernet as well.

    (2) If you can not run the Ethernet cable... (always the best performance option)... a pair of Ethernet over Powerline adapters could be able to send the Ethernet signal via power lines the existing AC in your House.  In other words, the theory with EoP devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you must just adapters.

An adapter would be located near your router 'primary' and plugged into an outlet. A short Ethernet cable connects to the router to the EoP adapter.  In contrast, an another EoP adapter is plugged into a power outlet near the time Capsule and a short Ethernet cable connects from the adapter to the time Capsule. Then, the iMac connects to time Capsule using a different Ethernet cable as well.

  • Airport Express had not cooperated and TC?

I got my TC and Airport Express for a few years now without any problems.  Recently, no known changes, I could no longer connect to my wifi/internet. After that everything in that I can get troubleshooting, it's when the TC and AE are physically connected to my my wifi internet network and stop working.  When I have either connected by themselves the internet and wifi works very well.  My setup as follows:

Router & Verizon Fios Internet Service

Airport Express hard wired to the Fios router

Time Capsule hard wired to the Fios router

I have updated firmware on TC and AE today and no luck.  Any ideas on what might be the cause?

    Thank you!

Reset both the TC and Express to plant and restore the configuration.

Make sure that both are in bridge mode... and get IP address valid for the FIOS router.

If you are roaming network then both TC and Express needs to create a wireless network of the same name and same level of security / password.

If you still have questions, post screenshots of the installation.

  • AirPort Express added to "AirTunes" music to the network

Hi guys, just a quick bit of advice of you would be good - I want to add an AirPort express to my set up as a dedicated "iTunes Speaker." So far, I have used a 1st generation Apple TV as my extension of iTunes, but this has made me now, and I don't need a model later that I don't need the video capabilities of it - I just need something to the music of airtime either my iPhone or, for most of the time, iTunes on my MacBook Pro.

    My network is as follows:

Internet comes to DSL modem cable, which is connected to the Wan 2nd generation (500 GB) airport Time Capsule for LAN and WiFi. ATV has been directly linked by ethernet (via a Netgear switch) and my MacBook and iPhone use WiFi (802.11n 5 GHz)

While I was looking for the original to the current model Express Airport (A1392) and using that passthrough network local ethernet of the TC to the switch (which continues to provide my TV, games console box, etc.) and possibly use it as a WiFi extender too (further strong WiFi to the garden for example - the TC is on the floor and it's down) , but then I thought - the oldest AirPort Express (A1264) allowed? And rather than go through the ethernet LAN of the floor (because it doesn't have two WAN/LAN ports, as the current model), but rather just hanging the switch via ethernet and to connect it to my amp to pump music iTunes/iPhone?

If I had to, I would still be able to use it as a way to extend the range of my 802.11n network (that I don't know if 1 model made gen only 2.4 or 5 GHz)

A1264 models are fairly cheap on eBay these days and would be an inexpensive way to add music streaming capabilities in my set up.

    Thank you!

the old AirPort Express (A1264) usable?

    Yes

And rather than go through the ethernet LAN of the floor (because it doesn't have two WAN/LAN ports, as the current model), but rather just hanging the switch via ethernet and to connect it to my amp to pump music iTunes/iPhone?

    It works

If I had to, I would still be able to use it as a way to extend the range of my 802.11n network?

    Yes

(as I don't know if 1 model made gen only 2.4 or 5 GHz)

The A1264 can do is 2.4 GHz... or. .... 5 GHz, but not both at the same time.

  • How to set up AirPort Express as a receiver only?

My Wi - Fi Terminal is a tower of ac AirPort Extreme. I use my old AirPort Express only n to provide the Internet connection for my TV. All he needs to do is to receive the signal Wi - Fi base station.

When I check the Wi - Fi traffic, however, it seems that the AirPort Express is also a signal. What makes a 'bridge', I think that the term. It is all set with a password, is not a security problem. It's just a problem of congestion network, which is quite a significant potential problem living in a high-rise building.

I apologize in advance, but my lock of knowledge and understanding of terminology related to all things 'network '. How can I configure the AirPort Express Terminal to it only "receives" the Wi - Fi signal and does not broadcast the ' ' anything?

    Be gentle

    Thank you

[This is a restatement of the question asked by another user here How to stop my broadcasting extreme airport ]

Your question is quite clear to me. You do not want the Express to broadcast anything, but it should provide an internet connection for the TV? This is not possible: internet connections are always a two-way binding. Probably the best solution would be to use the Express in client mode. Follow these instructions: AirPort Express: how to join an existing client mode - Apple Support Wi - Fi network

  • How to test the signal strength of an Airport Express, which extends a network?

I am trying to understand how my Airport Express is actually help to expand my network, and if I should move somewhere different. Any help would be appreciated!

Current situation: my base station is an AirPort Extreme in our apartment computer room; for the internet, which is plugged into the wall. The wifi network is extended in the living room via an AirPort Express (version 7.6.4). There are on the same cabinet as the AirPort Express to Apple TV. The Airport Express has an optical cable connecting to a sound bar (which has an additional HDMI connection to the TV).

I don't really know if the AirPort Express Terminal, he does something useful. The network is set to be extended, best I can tell: Airport Extreme network Mode is "Create a wireless network", and network Mode of the AirPort Express is "extend a wireless network. But still, the wifi on my iPad and iPhone signal strength seem to fall much in the living room. Apple TV usually broadcasts music from my desktop computer (in the computer room) well enough, but if I try to play music from my computer via the Apple Express at the soundbar, the connection is terrible and fall. (Which could be a problem with wifi, or could be an aging Airport Express question, could be a cable problem or might be a sound bar problem...)

An example of what worries me: if I go to the Airport utility on my iPhone and a glance at the Airport Extreme, it has 4 Wireless, including Apple TV clients. But if I look at the AirPort Express, there sometimes a client wireless (iPhone), but never shows the Apple TV: even if the Apple TV is about 30 cm of the Airport Express. It's as if the 30cm distant to the Airport Express connection is weaker than the connection of two-rooms-distant Airport Extreme, but I am probably wrong that.

In any case, is there a way to test what speed is through the AirPort Express, compared to through the extreme? I tried to use applications like CloudCheck on my iOS devices, but those only measure the speed of my network, and it is unclear whether or not he uses the Extreme or Express.

Thanks in advance and all apologies if I used (almost inevitably) 'Express' when I should have used "Extreme", or vice versa, somewhere at the top.

One way to see the strength of the signal is the Alt (option) key while clicking on the WiFi icon in the menu bar.

But you see not directly related to the airport of arrival. Also the Airport utility does not give much information.

You can see a lot more with the free app (Appstore) called "WiFi Scanner".

The problem could be that the place you have chosen for the Airport Express can be better: it should be somewhere in halfway (in force) between the Real and where you sit with the iPad/iPhone.
